Embarrassed to be a Roman Fan

I had the privilege in watching Roman vs CHA yesterday. It was pathetic, Roman looked like a pub team, CHA out played them and out coached them. Roman's staff should be fired asap for the display they put on yesterday. Murphs time needs to end cause that dude is clueless. I am a Roman alum and was totally embarrassed in what I seen. 21-0 CHA with 2 minutes left when Roman finally scored. The play calling for Roman was so bad, Roman has a stud player but they refuse to get the ball in his hands, Overall Roman is a joke and might beat Roxborough to give good old Murph his 1 win of the season...

The West: 6A Top 10….October 11th (#1 -#5)

With the top teams in the West coming from 4 conferences, District 7’s Northern Seven and Southeastern conferences and District 3’s Mid Penn Commonwealth and the Lancaster Lebanon Section-One, and with inter-conference games between the latter two, you’re going to see major changes every week in the rankings with all the head-to-heads. That’s compounded by the loss of many quality teams dropping to 5A, teams like Penn Trafford, USC and Harrisburg. This makes for convoluted rankings but a great view watching what almost amounts to prelims! So once again the rankings resemble a shuffled desk as the teams jostle about playing each other often on a weekly basis. But hey, it just doesn’t get any better than that!

1 Pine Richland 7-0, D7; Quarterback Phil Jurkovec reached a milestone last week topping the 6000 yard mark while completing 14 of 14 passes for 248 yards to bring his career total to 6108 yards. Considering time lost to injury, that is one heck of an accomplishment. All totaled this season he has completed 114 of 149 passes for 1876 yards and rushed for 350 yards. His completion percentage is an uncanny 77% along with a solid 16 to 3 touchdown to interception ratio along with 12 rushing touchdowns. Last week saw the Rams beat Peters Township 56-7 in a cross-over game, taking their season scoring total to 336 points or 48ppg. But the big news is the return of Kenny White (West Allegheny transfer) recovered from injury (game shape?) and playing in the backfield after being worked into the lineup the week before on defense only. His presence along with Jordan Crawford with over 520 rush yards combined with 6 quality receivers makes them a veritable scoring machine that no one has come close to slowing down. Their lowest output came in the opener to Wayne (Huber Heights-OH, Div-1, 5-2) where they routed the Warriors 41-0. They move on to Shaler (0-7, 22 game losing streak), followed by Butler (2-5) before the finale at Wexford against North Allegheny.

2 Cumberland Valley 5-1, D3; Cumberland Valley inserted itself right back in the Mid Penn Commonwealth conference battle pulling out a hard fought 36-21 win over previously undefeated State College. Qb Jared Plessinger had a great outing keeping them guessing completing 7 of 8 passes for 148 yards and a score. Nice having a Qb that can throw in the Wing-T. But the main weapon was their bull dozier at fullback in Galen Witmer (5-9, 235, 11 for 59) and backs Jake Palmer (5-9, 190, 24 for 86) and Charlie Katshir (6-3, 195) who battered the Lion’s D for 238 yards rushing on 50 carries. Total yardage figures were 386 (238r) for CV, 325 (167r) for SC. The win keeps them even with Central Dauphin, Central Dauphin East and State High with 1 conference loss behind powerful Harrisburg at 2-0 and 6-0 overall. 4-2 Carlisle is next, a team they defeated last year 33-13.

3 Bethel Park 5-1, D7; Bethel got a battle from quirky Seneca Valley but hung on for a 27-14 win. Heck of a performance by the Raiders now 1-5 with a 5-pt loss to Peters Twp and a hard fought 28-20 loss to Central Catholic. Super tough schedule for SV playing Central Catholic, Penn Hills and Bethel Park consecutively then North Allegheny this week. For The Black Hawks that’s two in a row since the 54-20 blowout to Pine Richland. Running backs Tanner Volpatti and John Doleno again led the way with each scoring two touchdowns. Canon McMillan and Altoona are next, followed by Mt. Lebanon, a game that will likely decide the Southeastern Conference where both are now undefeated. C-Mac is not a team to take lightly at 4-3 (2-2) with a 24-17 loss to Lebo 4 weeks ago. And practically everyone is still fighting for a playoff spot. Scoring 22ppg, they’ve done a good job replacing just about all of last year’s skill people.

4 Pittsburgh Central Catholic 5-2, D7; Central Catholic jumped on Butler, taking a 21-0 halftime lead that paved the way to a 49-14 rout of the Golden Tornadoes in the Northern Seven where they are essentially tied with Northern Allegheny. Like Phil Jurkovec of Pine Richland, Troy Fisher was perfect for Central Catholic, completing 7 of 7 tosses for 118 yard. Running back Khalil Weathers had another solid game rushing for 132 yards (9.4ypc) while scoring 2 touchdowns on 14 carries. That was a nice rebound from the 47-17 pounded administered the week before at Pine Richland. Altoona (2-5) is next. They’ve shown great improvement the last two weeks with a 27-23 road loss at Canon McMillan two weeks ago and last week’s 48-47 home win against Hempfield. First year starting quarterback Braeden Burchfield (6-2, 185, sr) had his coming out party last week completing 23 of 34 passes for 374 yards and 5 Tds so it could get exciting with any production approaching that level.

5 Manheim Township 5-1, D3; With Central Dauphin and State College losing, Manheim Township and Bethel Park benefitted by joining Cumberland Valley in moving up two slots in the ever changing rankings. But it is exciting seeing teams sort things out on the field. Township had little difficulty beating JP McCaskey last week, although the Red Tornado put up a good first half fight, down 14-0. Thereon the weight of the Blue Streak attack and their balance wore them down. Senior Qb Luke Emge (Fleetwood transfer, jr year) a Harvard commit, threw well enough to keep them honest, completing 9 of 16 passes for 2 scores and 104 yards as Grayson Sallade rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries allowing the Blue Streaks to prevail 35-7. The Warwick Warriors (3-3) are next in a revenge game where Manheim lost at home last year 31-28. That was a powerful Warwick team at 8-3 and they’re dangerous again this year with Wilson quarterback Grayson Kline (6-5, 225) lighting up secondaries averaging 44ppg! A 8-pt loss to state power Manheim Central (5A, 6-0) says they can be a load when on. And if the Streaks have Wilson on their mind coming in the following week, they’re in big trouble here.

3 Games that caught my eye...Oct. 13-14

Last week: 5-0
Overall: 17-3
Last weeks bonus picks helped with old winning percentage (maybe I should take my act to Vegas) and this weeks games look pretty good too with Ches-Mont titans Unionville and Donwingtown East going at it in a crossover game while Central Bucks neighbors West and South get together in Warrington. Playoff football is right around the corner and this week is when things start to work themselves out. The Central League is primed for a HUGE game next week as long as Springfield-Delco can hold up their end of the bargain.

Unionville (7-0) @ Downingtown East (7-0) (-4.5)
Top teams in each division of the Ches-Mont faceoff and both teams are coming off emotional wins in closely contested rivalry games. The Cougars came out on top in a closer than expected Battle of the Brandywine with DWest while Unionville needed a 4th quarter score and last minute stop to secure a win against Rustin. The big question is will DEast be looking ahead to Coatesville next week? For their sake, I hope not because Unionville is not afraid to battle with big boys. They’ve beaten Spring-Ford and a tough Avon Grove team this year and don’t forget that a few years back they went up to Pennsbury in a 1st Rd. playoff game as a #16 seed and upset the Falcons. Coach Pat Clark is a master at utilizing his best players and this year he has QB/RB/WR/SS Joe Zubillaga to fill that role. He is the team’s leading rusher and 2nd leading receiver. DEast had better account for him or it could be a long night. I think the game will come down to who can be the better team against the run as both teams use a power run game. My best guess is that sandwiched in between 2 rivals, Unionville will make this game closer than expected for DEast but their power run game which has accounted for almost 2,000 yards already will win the battle….DEast 28-23

CB West (5-2) @ CB South (5-2) (-3)
Central Bucks football is alive and well with the Bucks and Titans both sitting in prime position for a playoff spot. I could not find two teams more similar if I tried-both are balanced on O with RB’s who are pretty similar threats-Jake Reichwein for West and Ryan Wagner for South. Both teams play solid if not spectacular D and both teams need this win to secure a shot at a home playoff game in the 1st rd. Both teams have suffered losses at the hands of North Penn and both teams have another loss to a SOL team in front of them in the power rankings (South to Neshaminy, West to Pennridge). So this matchup should allow for some separation between the two in the standings and in bragging rights within the Central Bucks School District. I think this game will be a shootout and if starting QB Jack Johns back, I have South winning this one a little easier….CB South 41-35

Springfield (Delco) (7-0) (-9.5) @ Marple Newtown (4-3)
Springfield finishes with 3 straight road games (@Marple, @Garnet, and @Haverford) and they are looking at potentially winning the Central League outright while taking over the top seed in the 5A bracket. Marple is also going through their toughest stretch of the season and the health of Delco’s all-time leading passer is in question as QB Anthony Paoletti limped through part of last week’s game. If his availability is in question (which I doubt) then I find it hard to believe the Tigers will find much room to operate against an always stingy Springfield D. Even with their star QB on the field, I think Springfield is disciplined enough not to look past Marple on their road to a week 9 showdown with Garnet. The Cougars have the speed and toughness of a typical Delco team and this year’s version is only giving up 8.2 PPG. Led by RB Ja’Den Mackenzie and QB Jack Psenicska, the Springfield O is no slouch either. This team is good enough to compete with some of District 1’s top 6A teams this year. I think their depth and speed will overwhelm the reeling Tigers sending them to the bottom half of the 5A playoff seedings….Springfield 21-7

Failure Friday early edition

With the dummy and chief in office lets look at the failures by mid week

1. IQ test with Tillerson yea I am sure Donny would fail that test

2. 85% of Puerto Rico is still without power and the dotard is still tweeting on the NFL

3. Corker blasting the Tard with fears of WWIII, this is a Republican Trump calls hin liddle

4. Tax reform bill is DOA and looks like another whiff by Donny

5. North Korea issue is getting worse not better. Pretty bold move for a draft dodging punk

6. Sounds like the Russian investigation is full steam ahead and Pee gate might be real

Great job America you elected a retard

Defense?

Who has best d in District one? DTE gives up 44 to NP, garnet gives up 31 to Marple, Np gives it up to everyone and so on and so forth...who can make the changes come playoff time, can they? NP needs to do something to have any shot of going deep. My thoughts are to keep #12 @ outside backer along with #8, put #24 with #55 in the middle and move big #3 to d end. Keep #4 @ other d end and rotate some big o line men in on d line every series like #71, 66 etc. To soft in the middle.

The West: 6A Top 10….October 11th (#6 -#10)

6 State College 5-1, D6; After crushing a schedule of light weights with a combined won-loss of 11-20 by an average score of 58-15, the Lions got a reality check at Cumberland Valley last week losing to the Eagles 36-21. CV was in “War Eagle” mode all night, controlling the ball and clock with their incomparable Wing-T. See stats above at CV. Tough night for State who nevertheless came to play, rushing for 167 yards on 31 carries with Qb Tommy Friberg completing 13 of 20 passes for 158 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Star tailback Isaiah Edwards (PSU) was out with an injury. But the Lions battled hard coming up short on the road at a difficult venue facing their first quality opponent of the year. Central Dauphin East is next fresh off their 35-31 win against rival Central Dauphin. They’re probably in a lot of trouble here coming off the super high of that win and catching SC coming off a loss.

7 Central Dauphin 4-2, D3; The Rams and Eastie Boys met in a good one last Friday at Landis Field where Central Dauphin East (5-1) ended a 5 year drought, defeating their arch rival Central Dauphin 35-31. This was a back and forth game with East High up 20-17 at the half. That served as a wake-up call for the Rams who came out on fire, taking an 11 point 3rd quarter lead that looked good. It wasn’t. East may have lacked consistency but no one has questioned their talent over the years. Unfortunately for CD, they got it together in this one storming back with Qb Kane Everson hitting Terrence Danner with a 40-yd scoring strike with just under a minute to play. And that’s the way it goes in the Mid Penn Commonwealth playing a quality opponent almost every week. So with no rest for the weary, undefeated Harrisburg High (6-0) is next. CD edged them last year 13-11 in a bruiser.

8 North Allegheny 5-2, D7; North Allegheny rolled to their 4th consecutive win beating error prone Penn Hills who threw 3 interceptions, had a field goal blocked and committed 2 personal fouls, ending the game with 5 turnovers. With a final score of 27-16, imagine what Penn Hills might do with all that offense (30ppg) and talent if they ever discovered discipline. NA used long drives in this one (most converted to scores) to keep the ball away from Penn Hills’ offense and in the process wearing them down. NA has it going now. Through their last 4 games, they’ve cranked things up, scoring 155 points for an 39 points per game average while allowing 57, or 14 ppg. Seneca Valley is next, a team they defeated last year 49-14.

9 Wilson 4-2, D3; Wilson stretched their section (conference) winning streak to 67 games (!) with an easy 35-12 win against hapless Penn Manor. In the process, Connor Uhrig became the 5th Wilson quarterback to throw for over 3000 yards while Iggy Reynoso became the 4th back in Berks County to eclipse the 4000 yard career rushing mark, getting 165 yards on 22 carries. Qb Uhrig completed 14 of 21 passes for 203 yards. The Cedars of Lebanon are next but all eyes will be on the following week’s game when Wilson travels to Manheim Township for the LL Section One title and major seeding ramafications.

10 Mt Lebanon 5-2, D7; The Blue Devils balanced attack saw quarterback James Stocker complete 12 of 16 passes for 128 yards, Antonio LaSota rush for 116 yards and the Wpial’s leading receiver Aiden Cain snag 5 tosses for 78 yards and 2 scores on the way to a 35-20 win over Norwin. On the year, Cain has 1197 yards in receptions. Locked in a real battle for the Southeastern with Bethel Park (5-1, 3-0) and Peters Township (5-2, 3-1) while sitting at 4-0 themselves in conference says they can’t slip up with Peters Twp, Penn Hills and Mt. Lebanon looming. Peters Twp is next, a team they beat last year in a wild one 42-28. This one could get good if PT makes a few stops or gets a turnover or two since Mt. Lebanon’s D can be porous. So can PT’s that does not have the offensive firepower to make up the difference. Look out Lebo it’s crunch time.

Others:

Peters Township 5-2, D7; Maybe a 6 on a scale of 1-10 but they are beating the teams they’re supposed to beat and that will get them into the postseason where the top 4 teams (out of 7) from each conference (6A, 5A, 4A) qualify; home to Mt. Lebanon.

Penn Hills 5-2, D7; Carbon copy of PT above with a lot more “players”; at Hempfield.

Central Dauphin East 5-1, D3; No longer the stepchild of Central Dauphin after last week but now comes their 5th road game of the year and it’s at State College.

Hempfield 4-2, D3; home JP McCaskey and hangin in there, barely.

Red Lion 6-0, D3; No one saw this coming after last year’s 10-1 run; at New Oxford where they will name it.

McDowell 4-3, D10; Look who’s back in the world after beating Erie High 30-22. At Austintown Fitch-OH (Div-1, 4-4) battle tested vs Washington-Massillon 7-2 and Hudson 6-1, Big School division coming off 5-5 season with 13 starters. McDowell won last year 28-21 ot.

Erie High 5-2, D10; Home to Brashear.

Delaware Valley 7-0, D2; At Scranton.
