Easton Wrestling Coach Steve Powell retires after 40 seasons

Last week, National Wrestling Hall of Famer Steve Powell announced his retirement after 32 seasons as the head coach Easton and 40 years on staff. Powell is on any shortlist of greatest high school coaches of all time, going 534-126 in dual meets, winning 8 state titles (4 dual/4 individual tournament), finishing in the top 5 at the state tournament 18 times in 32 seasons, finishing ranked in the top 10 nationally eight times and the #1 public school in the country in 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2002, coaching 19 state champions, 19 Division I All Americans, and two two-time NCAA champions.

I bring this up here because I always like to point out the crossover between football and other sports, and Easton football benefitted greatly from Powell. I'd say most Easton offensive and defensive linemen have some sort of wrestling background in any given year. He's also had a ton of standouts in both sports in his 32 years, led by

Kevin Benton (All State running back/5th in Pa at 185/Bloomsburg football)
Joey Jones (All EPC offensive tackle/NE Regional Champ at 275/Toledo football)
Eric Thompson (All State running back/3rd in Pa 160)
John Piergallini (All EPC linebacker/tight end/3rd in Pa at 275/Hofstra wrestling)
Ryan Kilpatrick (All EPC safety/3rd in Pa at 160/Virginia Tech wrestling)
Marcus Millen (All State linebacker/5th in Pa at 215/Army football)
Jason Groller (All State linebacker/2x NE Regional Champ at 275/DII All American Shippensburg wrestling)
Zack Pizarro (All State linebacker/NE Regional Champ at 189/NC State wrestling - transfer to Wilkes - DIII All American)
Tyler Greene (All State defensive lineman/3rd in Pa at 182/Bucknell wrestling)

The connection between the two programs has been beneficial to both and I hope it continues in the new regime, whomever gets the job.

Quantico

Had an interesting few days over the weekend graduating the last one from Marine Corps Embassy Security Group School (MSG) at Quantico Marine Corps Base. A class was offered for family members to understand the unique aspects of MSG duty and its impact on the Marine and family, followed by graduation ceremonies the next day in Little Hall for those familiar where they again gave a brief overview of the program followed by a video then Q&A before the actual ceremony. Everything about the weekend and ceremonies were what you’d expect from the Marine Corps.

Check out the video and website.

Parkland Hires Tim Moncman

Parkland just approved Tim Moncman as their head coach at tonight's school board meeting. Moncman has been Parkland's defensive coordinator since 2012.

Prior to his time at Parkland, Moncman was the head coach at Liberty from 2000-2009, guiding the Hurricanes to an 88-36 record, three trips to the state final, and the 2008 PIAA 4A state championship. Liberty only made one D11 playoff appearance from 1988-1999 and has only been back to the playoffs once since Moncman resigned. From 2004-08, Liberty went 62-9 with 4 D11 finals appearances, 3 titles, and the aforementioned trips to Hershey.

Parkland is getting the best available coach in the Lehigh Valley and the program should expect to roll along.

Crosby Stepping Down at Imhotep

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/rally/376098246.html

Looks like Albie Crosby is stepping down at Imhotep. Says he needs to focus on health. If true, hope he is OK. It seemed like Albie was main reason Tep was getting the ridiculous amount of talent they've gotten over past several years. Who takes over? And will Tep keep bringing in the kind of talent they have without Crosby?

Stoga head job

From what I hear it's a 3 horse race I can only confirm three names

1. Dante Coles- Good coach from what I hear and was at Stoga years ago and is alumni and coaches Valley forge military academy

2 .Ray Giunta- current sun valley head coach who was just a finalist for the Ridley job before the gift was handed out to wood

3. Brian Thompson- old ridley OC who could not handle decker's laziness good offensive mind but from what I hear he is an ass

*The AD and school board better get there stuff together fast because it's really late in the year teams have been lifting and practicing already with non contact drills and 7v7 stuff. But the hardest thing in my opinion is going to be getting a quality staff together with coaches pretty much at current schools.

*Side note The kid who had the broomstick think happen to him is probably going to be getting paid very well soon and I hope he gets millions I know he has trying to get into a couple private schools in the area not sure where he currently is now maybe home school? Hey at least you can guarantee there will not be "No gay Thursday's anymore" or maybe the tradition continues somewhere else #HazingScandal
