Easter Bunny Deliveries in District 1

A little D1 high school football quiz for all the fans out there.

1. Name the four AAAA teams to not make the playoffs since 2004. HINT: one of them will be 5A next season and the other three will all be 6A.
2. There are also TEN squads that are winless in AAAA playoff appearances since 2004. One of them is Interboro, which will be 4A in 2016 with just 375 enrollment and has performed very well in AAA, and another is Cheltenham with 535 that will compete in 5A. Who are those 8 other teams that will be in 6A next year that have laid an egg in their appearances? HINTS: two are in Central/DelVal League, two in PAC and the other four are in Suburban One.
3. There are also NINE teams with just a single D1 playoff victory in AAAA since 2004. Called these cracked eggs. Especially when you see some of the enrollment numbers. Who are those 9 teams? HINTS: 4 of those teams will be 5A in 2016 (and should benefit from the drop) and the other 5 will all be 6A--another pair from the Central and a trifecta from SO. All 5 are inexplicable.

Jim Morgans Resigns at Parkland

Parkland head coach Jim Morgans has retired after 11 seasons with the Trojans and 47 years of coaching in the Lehigh Valley. Not a big surprise, he turned 70 earlier this month and as those numbers indicate has been in coaching for a long time. He finished his career on a high note, taking Parkland to their third state final and second in Morgans' tenure.

Morgans went 112-33 with five D11 championships and two state finals appearances (2007 and 2015) with the Trojans. Prior to Parkland, Morgans was the head coach at Freedom for four seasons and Salisbury for two seasons, following his run at Allentown Central Catholic.

Morgans coached at ACC, his alma mater, from 1989 to 1998, building the program from an also ran into a state powerhouse. At ACC, Morgans went 94-20, won six D11 titles, five East Penn Conference titles, and two state championships (1993 and 1998). The 1993 title included an instant classic win over Berwick in semifinals (who would turn the tables in 1994 in an equally great football game). All told, his career record is 262-137-1 in 33 seasons as a head coach. Only Bob Stem has more D11 titles, and only Stem and Fred Ross (Stroudsburg) have more career wins by any Lehigh Valley coach.

One of the most impressive parts of Morgans most recent coaching stint was his complete offensive transformation. Morgans was a Wing-T disciple from the beginning of his career, and rode that to his two state titles and the 2007 finals appearance with Parkland. After falling behind other programs in the area, Morgans hired offensive coaches with spread backgrounds to convert the Trojans to a read option/spread passing scheme. The results were four consecutive D11 titles and this past season's finals trip.

Naturally the next question is who will replace him. The presumed front runner for the job is Parkland Defensive Coordinator Tim Moncman, who previously was the head coach at Liberty from 2000-2009. Moncman led the Hurricanes to three state finals and one state title and a 63-9 record in the stretch from 2004-2008. He was one of the early adopters of the spread offense in the Valley and is one of the best defensive minds in the state. He is a Valley lifer, playing linebacker in high school at Freedom and in college at Lafayette, where he was the captain in 1991.

Also currently on Parkland's staff is Bret Comp, who coached Wilson to back-to-back state finals appearances in 2005 and 2006 and the AA title in '06 over Terrelle Pryor's Jeannette team. Comp is an Air Raid guru and one of the best quarterback coaches in the area, who developed two 7,700+ yard passers at Wilson. He and Moncman are close friends, and it would not be a surprise if one gets the job and the other stays on as a coordinator.

Other internal candidates include Frank Lane, Chris Kinnane, and Paul Hegedus. Lane, a former Easton and Bloomsburg running back, has been a key assistant on Morgans' staff dating back to his time at ACC. Kinnane was the offensive coordinator on ACC's 2010 state championship team and has head coaching experience at William Allen. And Hegedus, like Lane, is a long time assisant with Morgans, who has a reputation as one of the most outstanding offensive line coaches in the area.

Externally, I'd assume they will call Jim Terwilliger, who was the quarterbacks coach at Parkland in 2014 after his teaching position at Pleasant Valley was furloughed. Terwilliger was the head coach at PV from 2009-2013 and has the highest winning percentage in school history. He is now an assistant at East Stroudsburg University, his alma mater, where he was one of the greatest DII quarterbacks in history. It's assumed that Terwilliger is the coach in waiting at ESU, he's grown up around the program with his dad a long time assistant, but it's worth making him say no if I'm Rich Snisack.

Snisack is quoted as saying they have "a stable of talented individuals on our staff and will move forward as quickly as possible" so I'm guessing he doesn't look externally. Obviously the job is attractive, Parkland is one of the ten biggest schools in the state in an affluent district with the highest paid teachers in the Valley and an excellent support/feeder system. Snisack, the athletic director, is a former successful head coach (he built Parkland's program in the early to mid 1990s and won D11 titles at William Allen and Parkland) who I think has the reputation of supporting his coaches and giving them every chance to succeed (the athletic program certainly has the results to support that). I'm sure whoever they want will take it.

Do the Liberals ever learn? (Rhetorical question) Obama is desperate to get the economy moving...

and in the absence of an economic policy, wants to try to repeat the sins of the Clinton administration. And how stupid do the writers think the readers are when they mention the irresponsible lending practices of the mid-2000's. With the peak having taken place in 2006, clearly the practices of 2004 and 2005 wouldn't have caused a collapse so soon; instead, it was the Clinton policies of 1995-2000 that aimed to get everyone into a house that were the cause.

That's the problem with liberals, they always want everyone involved, instead of just those who earn the right to get involved. Of course, President Incapable will be out of office and giving speeches to brainwashed audiences when the effects of this policy are felt.

WPIAL 6A Conferences

Came out today. Its a little crazy.

Conference 1
1. Pine-Richland
2. Pittsburgh Central Catholic
3. North Allegheny
4. Penn Hills
5. Seneca Valley
6. Butler
7. Shaler

Conference 2
1. Mt. Lebanon
2. Bethel Park
3. Norwin
4. Hempfield
5. Canon McMillen
6. Peters Township
7. Altoona

It would be a safe bet to plan that the next two WPIAL 6A champs come out of conference 1. On top of that, hearing that Pine-Richland may be playing St. Edwards out of Ohio (back to back large school champs) and Central Catholic may be going to California to play Bosco. Murderers row.

Where are all the........

opinionated souls that usually populate this board in droves, especially now in the midst of truly historic primaries from both camps. Can only assume a majority are from the "establishment", thoroughly disgusted with Sanders and Trump. That's fine, it's a free country where we the people still have a say in things but I really thought this campaign would have the board jumping.

Must admit the "establishment" has demonstrating why Trump and Sanders have such widespread appeal. What a transparent collection of frauds they are, coming out against the process they so often hold to be dear and sacred.

If nothing else, thank God the process is exposing them.

Chris Bleich IMG update:

Like everyone to know that Chris is settling in and playing very well as a member of the 2018 class. The IMG coaching staff recently informed him that he will be the starting Right Tackle as they continue to prep and head into their spring practice sessions. The IMG O-Line is for real as is the immense talent throughout the team. Special note of interest for the followers of " PaPreps " is the welcome news that both the starting right and left tackles are Pennsylvania Kids. Left Tackle Robert Hainsey is a former WPIAL (Gateway) player and a member of the 2017 class. Hainsey is being recruited on a national level.

PIAA Wrestling Tournament - Football

The state wrestling tournament starts today. I took a spin through the AAA bracket, and these are the notable football players who qualified.o

285 - Niko Camacho, Bethlehem Catholic (defensive tackle)
285 – Ike Schannauer, Wilson West Lawn (linebacker)
220 – Garrett Zobel, LaSalle (defensive tackle)
195 – Jake Jakobson, Stroudsburg (quarterback)
195 – Francis Duggan, North Allegheny (linebacker)
195 – Anthony Piscopo, LaSalle (defensive tackle)
182 – Nick Bonomo, Quakertown (wide receiver)
182 – Gregg Harvey, Boyertown (running back)
182 – Jayden Reyes, Dieruff (defensive end)
170 – Cole Zapf, Downingtown West (linebacker)
152 – Travis Stefanik, Nazareth (quarterback)

I’m sure there are more, but these are the names I recognized right away from the gridiron. Feels like there is a bigger crossover this year than there has been in the recent past.

Jakobson and Duggan are wrestling in quarterfinals today, and I think the winner is going to take the 195 bracket (both are nationally ranked). They’re excellent football players in addition to being state wrestling contenders, as Jakobson threw for over 2,000 yards this year and set Stroudsburg’s all time passing record and Duggan made 120 tackles and earned a place on my all state team as a linebacker.

Stefanik is also a national caliber wrestler (ranked 17th by Intermat) and put up video game numbers this fall at Nazareth, throwing for 2,355 yards and rushing for 1,075 with 36 total touchdowns. He started the season wrestling some 182 after football before making 152 for the first time at Districts.

Schannauer is the best football player of the bunch, a two-time all state middle linebacker for one of the best defenses in the state at Wilson.

Camacho, Jakobson, Duggan, and Stefanik are all potential champs (though Stefanik would need to beat Hayden Hidlay of Mifflin County, #2 nationally, to get to the final). I’d put money on those four plus Piscopo and Havey earning medals (with Zobel and Reyes having outside shots to get on the podium).

Pennsbury Update

The word out of Fairless Hills is that interviews concluded this week. Three candidates were interviewed:

Pennsbury DC Dan McShane
William Tennent HC Leo Plenski
Former Truman HC John Iannucci

McShane rumored to be the front runner.

What's interesting here is a couple high profile coaches were apparently not granted interviews. Very strange.

The real truth about the Ridley Job

Just to enlighten everyone about the Ridley job Dave Wood was already handed the job even before the thanksgiving day game. From inside sources the AD and him were at the faculty tailgate shaking hands and kissing babies as he had already been introduced to members of the board as the new head coach that morning with the superintendent by his side. So as decker was coaching the game his fate was sealed well before that, so called " I need to spend more time with my family garbage". So putting the job posting out as if Ridley was really looking for a coach was BS, because anyone who had any say in the hiring of the coach already had there guy weeks before the thanksgiving day game and that is the fact. Not to say Decker had already dug his own grave by having zero work ethic, but it's a shame they lead people on. What used to be a prominent program just became classless.
