Western Streakers

These teams are on at least a 4 game winning streak.
D3
AAAAAA (Looks better than 6A doesn’t it!)
Cumberland Valley 5-0;
At undefeated State College Friday where it is almost always a war. SC won last year 21-7, lost the year before 13-0. Winner here is atop the Mid Penn Commonwealth, at least for a week with Central Dauphin, CD East and Harrisburg ultimately having something to say about that.
Dallastown 6-0; Tough one at Northeastern (3-2) who the Wildcats edged last year in Dtown 15-12 . Nice Div-1 battle in the York-Adams.
Red Lion 5-0; The next opponent is not the strongest bunch at 3-2 but as always, South Western’s Mustangs are a load at The Corral where they are 2-0 by a score of 85-6 this year.
AAAAA
Palmyra 5-0;
Mid Penn Capital power Palmyra (outside Hershey) allowing just 26 points all year will have hands full at AAA Middletown containing their backs.
Governor Mifflin 4-1; On fire since unexpected 38-7 loss to rival Wilson in opener with predictable battles against Cocalico, Manheim Twp and another Reading team Exeter Twp before blasting Boone last week 42-0. Should win out! West York is next.
Harrisburg 4-1; 4 straight since opening loss to rival McDevitt by average score of 40-4! Cougars are becoming a force again and Chambersburg (1-4) is next.
AAAA
Shippensburg 5-0;
Got past Bermudian Springs 3 weeks 28-24 ago giving appearance of winning all before big one vs Big Spring, likely for all the MP-Colonial marbles.
Big Spring 4-1; Always tough kids-teams in Newville, just outside Carlisle winning last 4 with 1-4 Greencastle coming in.
Milton Hershey 4-1; Won 4 straight since 19-13 opening loss at CD East (4-1). Really tearing it up in the MP-Capital with a challenge in Enola Friday night (tough venue) against East Pennsboro’s 4-1 Panthers.
AAA
Middletown 5-0;
Major factor in the postseason with a huge line and dynamic backfield of Brady Fox and Jaelen Thompson. Home to undefeated Palmyra (see AAAAA) in another great south central Pennsylvania Friday night fight. No one has stopped the Blue Raiders backfield all year. The M-town Raiders look like the real deal.
Littlestown 5-0; Might be asking too much of the Thunderbolts going to 4-1 York Catholic taking on the Irish after beating major rival Delone Catholic 6-0 last week. Bolts are super quick with a gang tackling D that should help in a tough road encounter.
AA
Newport 6-0;
The Buffalos (20 upriver form Harrisburg on the Juniata) are destroying teams by a total score of 287-79 (!). AAA Juniata (5-1, D6, Mifflintown) is also smoking people by a combined score of 269-83 so something has to give.
A……..N/A

D5
Conemaugh Township A 6-0;
A win over Berlin Brothersvalley tells you they are for real in this part of the woods. Have a 3 year starting quarterback with 7 and 8 to the O and D respectively. It’s very small-ball but its still football.

D6….just a few
State College 5-0;
The mid-state mugger is back in full stride this year waltzing over people by a combined score of 210 to 30! But the real world starts Friday night with Cumberland Valley in, then Central Dauphin East, then Harrisburg and Chambersburg for a break before the regular season closer against Central Dauphin at State High.
Johnstown AAAA 6-0; J-town got past city rival Westmont Hilltop 28-27 with no other challenges thus far. That changes in two weeks against another nasty from Johnstown, the Crushers from Bishop McCort (5-1) before heading to Altoona to play Bishop Guilfoyle ‘s (6-0) Marauders, the defending Single-A champ.
Bishop Guilfoyle A 6-0; They’ve graduated some key pieces of last year’s state champion, sustained season ending injuries and are still one tough football team, reeling off 22 straight wins following last season’s 16-0 campaign.

D7
AAAAAA
Pittsburgh Central Catholic 5-1;
5 game win streak not in any jeopardy the next two weeks with road games at Butler and Altoona. And with Pine Richland losing their quarterback, the Western side of the state at this classification has been reduced to a field of 4; Central Catholic, Cumberland Valley, State College and Central Dauphin.
AAAAA
Upper St Clair 5-0;
Char Val tested them losing 17-10 and so will the next two homers against 5-0 West Allegheny and 4-1 McKeesport. They close with 5-1 Woodland Hills after Hampton.
West Allegheny 5-0; Tough winning at USC this weekend but Indians bring a strong defense that has allowed only one team to score all year, North Hills.
AAAA
West Mifflin 6-0;
No one has tested them to date although Ringgold might and Belle Vernon and Thomas Jefferson definitely will. Both are undefeated.
Thomas Jefferson 5-0; Have 3 shutouts, an army of returning starters and too much offense for Mars.
South Fayette 6-0; Hard finding a loss on the schedule unless 4-2 New Castle really steps up.
Belle Vernon 5-0; They’re at winless Trinity this week then back to back games against TJ and West Mifflin will decide the Big 9 and a big piece of the pecking order in the Wpial Quad-A.
Mars 5-1; Won 4 straight with impressive win last week at New Castle 34-7. TJ is more but Mars should be in it at home.
AAA
Derry 6-0;
Looking to make their first playoff appearance since 2002 but Mount Pleasant next at 5-1.
Central Valley 5-0; 5 straight wins with last week’s 42-35 win featuring a goal line stand against a good Beaver team. 5-1 Hopewell is next, (Tony Dorsett’s alma mater) coming off a loss making this look like a tough road win for Central.
AA
Washington 5-0;
At 3-3 Bentworth would isn’t far from a 5-1 record then Chartiers Houston (5-1) also on the road. The Little Prexies will have to earn it but have the goods!
Steel Valley 5-0; Three Rivers monster from Munhall is pounding people by an average score of 56-10. Looks like the Ironmen are all the way back (10-2 last year) after a 7 year funk where they went 34-33. The last 4 games look winnable if they can keep the focus with 3 of 4 being road games.
Riverside, EC 4-1; The Ellwood City gang won 4 straight and seem to have recovered from 41-7 meltdown in opener to Steel Val. Neshannock’s Lancers at 5-1 are next.
A
Jeannette 6-0;
Jayhawks are winning by an average margin of 47-4 with 4 straight shutouts and likely to be undefeated when Clairton’s Bears come to town October 28th .
Clairton 5-0; Very similar to Jeannette with no one coming close. Huge game this week in the state with Aliquippa (5-1) visiting.
Fort Cherry 5-0; Probably won’t get a test until Carmichaels the 21st with Avella up next.
Rochester 5-0; Might get a game from OLSH below coming off a hard fought come-from-behind 30-26 win at Northgate, giving the Flames their first loss of the season.
Our Lady of Sacred Heart 4-1; The Chargers don’t have enough to keep up with historic powerhouse Rochester but have great momentum winning their last 4.

D10
AAAAAA……..N/A
AAAAA
Grove City 6-0;
Nice veteran team with a big armed quarterback, vet OL and receivers to give a lot of teams trouble. It should be a wild one in Dubois Friday against the Beavers with their exciting 4-2 team.
Meadville 4-2; Won 4 straight and likely one of the few beyond Cathedral who can challenge Grove City in the D-10 Region 5 Conf.
AAAA
Cathedral Prep 6-0;
Still “The” team in District -10 by a L O N G shot. Take on AAAAA Fort LeBoeuf (5-1) who will have their hands full.
AAA
Hickory 6-0;
This is probably the best kept secret in the Northwest going 62-9 since 2011. South Fayette has kept them off the front page and more recently the lack of good size up front. They try to make up for that with speed. The home game against Wilmington will reveal them one way or another and probably decide the D10-Region 2.
AA
Iroquois 6-0;
Here’s the other team from Erie that gets overshadowed by Cathedral and McDowell but they’ve got it going this year looking to advance beyond last year’s playoff loss to West Middlesex in the opening round. Bring back Tarrell Clark (6-0, 190 sr) who filled in for injured QB Mike Lasher (6-1, 195, jr) moved back to FB with Lasher’s return. RB Tyler Barone is back (5-10, 195, sr) with 1475 rush yards, a few receivers and at least 4 to the OL….running 215 to 220. Looks like the have enough to get past the District Quarterfinals this year.
Wilmington 6-0; The Greyhounds have been in a 3 year slump going 5-4, 6-5 and 7-5 from 2013 through 2015. Prior to that they went 96-11 from 2004 to 2012 with losses to the great Jeannette teams in 2006 and 2007 with 14-1 and 13-2 teams before beating West Catholic 35-34 in the 2008 final with a 15-1 team. This year’s edition is looking pretty freaky too, averaging 47ppg while allowing 11. The Hounds are howling with Greenville in next followed by the mega game at powerful Hickory out of Hermitage (see AAA above).

FINAL: Neshaminy 42 - CB South 14

The offense looked fine - maybe should have had another.

The defense is still missing tackles when they have them bottled up (and South's offense has some players).

And it seemed the usual Neshaminy game where they seem to do enough. They sort of chip away and work the edges yet you feel like it was harder than it should be. South also hurt themselves with some penalties (the 'Skins shot themselves a few times as well).

Langhorne built a comfortable 21-7 halftime lead. Then South had the ball to start the second half as they took the kickoff and then used that possession to put together a quick drive. Neshaminy looked flatfooted on that opening effort by the Titans as that score made it 21-14 (and edgy for us fans of the 'Skins); however, Neshaminy's offense went right down the field on their next possession and made it 28-14.

From there it was the chipping away as the 'Skins banked two more scores.

South did make it exciting as on their next to last possession as they were using all four downs on a nice drive down the field which ended when Jacob Gordon picked a South pass near the ten or so and returned it to mid-field. About four plays later Neshaminy's backups took it in for the final TD of the night.

They are getting it done so:

Go 'Skins!!

Eastern Streakers

No, not those streakers....back in college where we redefined “Big Man on Campus”. I’m talking teams that are undefeated and those that put together at least four straight wins. Here we go.

Southeast PA….undefeated, D1, D12.
6A
North Penn 6-0;
On the road in-conference at 5-1 CB East with an offense in high gear topping 40ppg their last 3. East’s 27-6 loss at CB South says they’re in big trouble here. After East comes Souderton, Tennett and Abington suggesting a run out.
Neshaminy 6-0; Come on now, Abington gave em a fight, losing 21-0 ending their 3 game win streak while the Tribe knuckled down defensively to get their first shutout of the year. CB South (5-1) is next in Langhorne and could be a little banged up after the 42-13 loss to North Penn last week.
Perkiomen Valley 6-0; Back in the day this would have featured two undefeated teams; Perk Val 6-0 vs Spring Ford at 5-0-1. But now they play overtime and that’s the only blemish on this field with the Rams losing to D3 blue blood Wilson back in week 3 in double overtime. Spring Ford won at home last year 28-14 with a markedly better defense. There are shades of that this year with Rams allowing only 86 points (72 minus Wilson ots) to Perk Val’s 116. But this one is at Perk Val. Spring Ford has the horses but it will be by a sliver if they pull it off.
Philadelphia Central 5-0; Beat Wissahickon 27-21 and Frankford 28-0, with Mastery North, GW and South Philly left making it look like they run the table.
St. Joseph’s Prep 4-0; Really something when you think about the Hawks running up 49, 35 and 43 points on Oaks Christian, Don Bosco Prep and Archbishop Wood in consecutive games in any year! In Conshohocken Friday (A Field) vs Roman.

5A
Springfield 6-0;
Cougars are looking good with last week’s ot road win at Ridley. Can’t let up at Strath Haven this week
Marple Newtown 6-0; Bad time to catch Ridley off a home ot loss to rival Springfield. Look out for the Mean Green this weekend but the Tigers won’t go down easy.
Academy Park 6-0; At inconsistent Glen Mills where the Bulls used to be somebody playing Coatesville, Parkland, North Penn, Pennsbury, Abington, St. Ignatius and the Downingtown teams before screwing it up joining the Del-Val. Oh well!
Upper Dublin 5-0; Cardinals are home to Plymouth Whitemarsh who has also won 5 in a row counting last week’s Springfield forfeit. Springfield could have played until the body count (safety) was a factor right? UD trounced Colonials last year 42-0.

4A
Imhotep 5-0;
Guess the criticism for scheduling got a little quitter after waffling Malvern Prep 48-7 last week. Panthers came in with a winning margin of 53-2 and this one wasn’t much different! Back to the abysmal AAA Public League finds them with another no challenge playing 0-4 West Philly who has been outscored 139 to 6. Three of those were shutouts.
Cardinal O’Hara 5-0; Talk about quite. This has to be the quietest 5-0 team in the PCL or southeast PA for that matter. They’re outscoring opponents 181 to 26. Maybe these guys should play up!
Boys Latin Charter 6-0; The Boys are just stomping people by an average score of 38-10. I know it’s Roxy, but….64 to 14? They have something going on. At Fels Friday with Bartram a real road block the week after.

One or two losses but still streaking;
Coatesville 5-1
; Got off to a shaky start with the Cumberland Valley loss then ripped off 4 straight, smoking CR North, Henderson, Downingtown West and WC East by an average score of 42-14. At Downingtown East Friday.
Downingtown East 5-1; Cougars won 4 straight since losing to North Penn 23-6. East won last year 22-12.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 5-1; Won their last 5 after season open home loss to Souderton 38-23 who since winning their first 3 lost the last 3.
Haverford 4-2; Upset in opener at Chester 24-21 then lost home opener to Ridley 7-0 before going on a tear, capped off by the 34-28 ot win over Garnet Valley last week. At winless Harriton next.
Bartram 5-1; 4 straight by a count of 198-12 since losing to Gratz in the opener.

Other Eastern team, D2, D4, D11.
D2
Dunmore 2A 6-0;
What’s new, this D2 powerhouse is kicking butt again, winning impressively at Lakeland (5-1) 32-21 to show they’ve got another strong group. They’re at Susquehanna Community (3-3) Friday.
Scranton Prep 3A 5-1; Narrow loss to Abington Heights in opener 21-14 before running off 5 straight with most impressive win at Wyoming (5-1) 14-7. Nice tune-up this week against winless Honesdale before a hard one at Western Wayne (5-1).
Western Wayne 3A 5-1; Like Scranton Prep, the Wildcats haven’t lost since day one, reeling off 5 wins but now face the gauntlet of power teams North Pocono and Scranton Prep, both 5-1, but both at Western Wayne.

D4
Williamsport 6-0;
May make a run with almost everyone back from last year and an offense loaded with speed averaging 48ppg. The issue is the schedule that shows a win over Wyoming Valley West 4-2, 35-22 and a decent 4-2 Shikellamy team 49-19. Thereon it’s connecting linkage games for a shaky estimate of comparative strength. We’ll know more about them after the game at Delaware Valley (4-2) Saturday.
Montoursville 3A 6-0;The Warriors have another strong team (9-4 last year) who play Southern Columbia Friday night, a team they lost to last year 56-50 in the district final. Montoursville passed for 238 yards in that one but Southern battered them for 458 on the ground. With quarterback Brycen Mussina back, throwing to senior receivers Riley Conboy, Tom Shea and Mitchel Rothrock for 248, 788 and 286 yards respectively, it looks like bombs away and a great game
Southern Columbia 2A 6-0; Southern won their 8th state title last year, a state record, and 23rd district title (!) before going on to destroy Aliquippa 49-14 in the final. These country boys have known how to play football for a long, long time. Almost everyone graduated but it’s an experienced team that will make another run, averaging 56ppg! At Montoursville Friday for one of the top games in the state.
Wellsboro 2A 6-0; District 4 Class-A defending champ (10-3, lost to Old Forge in playoffs) has a veteran bunch led by junior quarterback Quinn Henry (1378py, 1046ry) a veteran OL and TE Parker Jones (6-6, 225, sr) who is next to impossible to stop at this level. Had 40 catches for 577 yards last year. The Hornets are rolling over people, averaging 36, allowing 5 with 4 shutouts. Coach Matt Hildrebrand is 34-7 into his 4th year at the helm. At Cowanesque Valley Friday.
South Williamsport 2A 5-1; The Williamsport area teams are rolling with the Mounties winning 4 straight. None more impressive than last week’s win over perennial power Triple-A Loyalsock (4-2) 20-7. At Bloomsburg Friday.
Sayre 1A 4-2; Won their last 4.

D11
Emmaus 6-0;
Edged Freedom at home last week 37-35 but tough road trips at Liberty and Easton are next before the closer at home to Parkland.
Pleasant Valley 5-1; Won 4 straight after the 1-1 start and finish with Dieruff, East Stroudsburg North, Pocono Mt. East and the decisive final at home against Stroudsburg. The PV Bears are exciting scoring 45ppg and allowing 30!
Stroudsburg 5-1; Here’s another hot team reeling of 5 straight after the loss at Easton. Home to Allen.
Allentown Central Catholic 4A 5-1; Won 5 with no contests since 2nd week win against Pleasant Valley 38-27. 0-6 Pookie Mountain East is next.
Notre Dame 3A 6-0; The Crusaders seem on cruise control with Catasauqua up next. Catty is 0-3 on the road this year.
Schuylkill Haven 2A 6-0; They’re doing it with strong defense, allowing 10ppg. Home to Minersville.
Tri Valley 1A 5-1; The Bulldogs won their last 4 with Pine Grove next on the road.
Williams Valley 1A 5-1, Won last 5 with the 6th on the way against 1-5 Susquenita.

Bill Clinton calls obamacare "the craziest thing in the world!!!"

Speaking in Flint, Michigan yesterday, slick willie said "so you've got this crazy system where, all of a sudden, 25 million more people have healthcare and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It's the craziest thing in the world."

And we thought that when Bush hit reluctant with a 20% paycut (and it was a clerical error by the payroll company, as it was supposed to have been a 50% paycut), that was severe. Now that slick willie has given us the truth about incapabama care (as if we didn't know already), this is worse than what Bush did to reluctant. And reluctant voted for him! Talk about voting against oneself!

Can't wait to see liberal follow-up on this board. Tell us how slick willie "walked this back" on Wednesday! reluctant to think, work, and now vote will be in clinical depression very soon! And Incapabama will be looking for slick willie.

The Debate....any thoughts?

If Trump conducts himself as he has the last few weeks, I think he'll deflect Hillary's predictable attack-remarks, especially if she is canned and packaged the way Little Marco was.

I imagine she will be boringly "establishment" as so many Republicans were that Trump routed. And unless he really flubs it, it just doesn't seem to matter that he generalizes, misspeaks and is shallow. My impression is we are so tired of business as usual that almost any change may be acceptable.

Ridley vs. Springfield

Was anyone else NOT as surprised by this as me? I know Ridley had momentum, but the first year in the tenure of the coach who everybody knew was getting the job, and the OC who is friends with the Principal lose to a team that hasn't beat Ridley in almost a quarter century? And basically get shut down in the process?

I have long said on here that Wood was the correct hire. I still believe that. But I have also long said that running this offense, which has little to no forward passes wouldn't work at Ridley when it mattered, from a practical standpoint and an alumni standpoint.

Kudos to Springfield (their DC was a finalist for the Ridley job if I remember correctly, I forget his name). They played well. Ridleys only scores came on broken plays. Maybe in the off season we can lure Ruffenach (UD OC, also a finalist) away from UD. I know there are struggling but they sure can score points.

I know its just one game. But I can't see this offense working here for a deep playoff run.

PCL and cancelling JV games

Last week Ryan cancelled on LaSalle and this week Judge cancelled on LaSalle.
About 2 hours prior to kickoff Friday night, Carroll cancelled on Roman for JV. The reason given, numbers.
I find that a little odd given the fact that Carroll had at least 50 kids suited up for the game Friday night.
It's one thing if you legitimately don't have the numbers(Ryan) but no reason to simply cancel the JV game because you aren't competitive on that level.
There is a good chance that these teams were aware that they would not be playing the JV game prior to Friday night. If they notify their opponents ahead of time, they at least have an opportunity to get another game scheduled.
At the end of the day the kids are the ones who are being robbed.

The West: Interesting games, scores, scheduling and trends.

D3
Mid Penn Conference (Commonwealth,, Keystone, Capital)
Central Dauphin 4-0;
Important game Friday across the river facing West Shore nemesis Cumberland Valley who has won the last 3 encounters. Remember last year’s win by CV, 62-61 in 7 overtimes?
Cumberland Valley 4-0; Making it look easy defeating decent teams like Coatesville, McDevitt and Central York by an average score of 31-14. They do it by running the Wing-T to perfection!
State College 4-0; No recent challenges since 24-13 opener at McCaskey, winning all others by a score of 154-17. At Carlisle this week.
Cedar Cliff 5A 4-0; Lack of a challenge about to change playing at McDevitt Friday in a Keystone game.
Carlisle 3-1; Hands full with State College on heels of 55-21 thumping by Central Dauphin.
CD East 3-1; Let’s see if they bounce back against Chambersburg in a conference battle after losing to rival Harrisburg 28-10 last week at home.
Harrisburg 5A 3-1; Will crush next two, Hershey and Chambersburg in tune-ups before CD.
Red Land 5A 4-1; The 4 wins are all on the road making Patriots one tough out.
Bishop McDevitt 4A 1-3; O-Line issues but good stuff in backfield at QB/RB. Big Keystone
conference game with CC-Colts in Friday night.

Lancaster Lebanon League
Wilson 3-1;
Had a war with Warwick last week winning 14-10. Hey, you can’t always be awesome but still pretty good stuff.
Lancaster McCaskey 5A 2-2; Really improved (!) but not enough to beat Wilson Friday.
Warwick 2-2; Decent team with losses to Manheim Central and Wilson.
Manheim Twp 2-2; Streaks are struggling with trip to Conestoga Valley Friday in a must win Section game in the LL.
Conestoga Valley 5A 3-1; East side taking on the North side when Manheim Township comes to Horseshoe Road for what shapes up as a great game.
Cedar Crest 5A 3-1; Home to Garden Spot (3-1) in a Section crossover game.
Manheim Central 5A 4-0; Section-2 battle with Cocalico (2-2, won last 2) who is finally performing as expected with that veteran line of theirs coming off a big win against previously undefeated Elizabethtown.
Elizabethtown 5A 3-1; Will roll at Solanco before the big one at home against Manheim Central.
Lampeter Strasburg 4A 3-1; The wheels really came off last weekend getting pummeled 69-14 by Manheim Central.

York Adams League
Dallastown 4-0;
Not as powerful as last year’s Wildcat group but who’s arguing 4-0? Will rout
listless York (0-4, outscored 171-58) before major road game at Northeastern the following week
Red Lion 4-0; Get toughest games at home, Northeastern and D-town and looking good, winning by an average score of 40-10. Lions are a rung beneath Wilson, CD, CV and always a threat.
Central York 3-1; Panthers are prowling now with 28-27 win at Northeastern last week Don’t like D much at Central but should rout South Western’s 2-2 Mustangs.
Northeastern 5A 3-1; May have got cocky last week losing at home to Central York and the recovery looks bleak going back-to-back at Red Lion and D-town!

Berks Inter County Football Conference
Governor Mifflin 5A 3-1;
Nice bounce after opening with 38-7 blowout to rival Wilson then winning 3 straight vs quality teams; Cocalico, Manheim Township and Exeter. Should blast Boone who lost to Red Lion and Northeastern by an average score of 51-7.
Berks Catholic 4A 4-0; Looking awfully good rolling out 1556 total yards of offense while holding opponents to 247 yards rushing and change thru the air. Thing is, this is a super young team (building for 2017?), filled with sophs and juniors. Soph QB, junior running backs, soph MLB Brandon George (6-3, 220), junior DT John Blanco (6-3, 270) and more. Berks Catholic has been a force since the merger of Reading Central Catholic and Reading Holy Name in 2011, going 53-10.

D6
Johnstown 4A 5-0;
Trojans are rolling, blowing people out by average score of 38-15.
State College 4-0; See D3, at Carlisle.

D10
Cathedral 4A 5-0;
Building another big offense averaging 54ppg allowing 14 with only Canisius appearing as a threat in the final.
McDowell 4-1; Nothing special this year giving State College a clear shot at the Wpial rep.
Grove City 5A 5-0; Exciting team off a 1-9 season (AA then) with QB Kam Patterson (6-3, 190, sr, +3400 career) tearing it up completing 76% with a 18/1 Td-Pick ratio. Return 8 on both sides with a veteran line. Possible stumble at Dubois (3-2) Oct 7th and a rough classification this year but they’ll at least be exciting at 49ppg with Kam Patterson under center and all those veterans.

D7....WPIAL
Pine Richland 4-1;
Got a scare last week from Bethel Park winning 31-24 with Central Catholic up next where they will have to tighten up on defense. Can’t get behind at Central Catholic this week, press and have turnovers.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic 4-1; Vikings haven’t had any challenge since the opening loss winning by an average score of 50-10. May be able to just pound it vs Rams who can’t afford any turnovers forcing them to play catch up if Central Catholic can control the clock.
North Allegheny 3-2; Maybe the philosophy will change one day in Wexford since they’re not Central Catholic with an unending supply of D1 talent that can pretty much mug opponents unless you’re Pine Richland. Come on coach, put the ball in the air every now and then!
Bethel Park 2-2; Spoiler alert! Maybe the best 2-2 team in the West with 7 point road losses to North Allegheny and Pine Richland. Not many can say that. Won’t be easy but they could get a run going with Hempfield 3-2 and Seneca Valley 2-2 up next, followed by Canon-McMillan 1-4, Altoona 2-4 then the closer against Mount Lebanon. All but C-Mac are home.
Penn Trafford 5A 5-0; Good so far but rough seas ahead with Gateway, Franklin Regional. Armstrong, Kiski and McKeesport yet to play with a 16-7 combined won/loss.
Upper St Clair 5A 4-0; No contest winning by an average score of 35-3 (allowed 13 total points) vs a easy schedule. But we’ll see what they’re made of soon enough with games against West Allegheny, McKeesport and Woodland Hills coming up. 5A is so loaded out west.
McKeesport 5A 3-1; Still fast and furious running the Flex.
Armstrong 5A 4-1; Last year’s leading rushing in the WPIAL, Zane Dudek is at it again, running over, under, around and through teams, especially at McKeesport in game #3 for 302 yards on 45 carries and 5 touchdowns. This adds to his previous 2 game total of 501 yards and 9 Tds! Mild upset by Franklin Regional (2-2) last week 24-20 after two game stretch of McKeesport and Gateway. Back on track this week at Plum where Dudek will add to his season total of 1337 rushing yards.
Kiski 5A 4-1; How did these guys lose to Canon-McMillan (1-4)? Opener and all but now they have a real opportunity to show they are legit with a road win at West Allegheny Friday.
West Allegheny 5A 4-0; Another nice team from one of the great ones, Coach Bob Palko and maybe a challenge Friday with Kiski’s Cavs (above) in town Friday followed by USC. Two weeks later they’re at Woody. But West Allegheny plays serious D with 3 shutouts in their first 4 games.
Woodland Hills 5A 4-1; Wolverines started with a 37-21 win at Gateway but faltered mightily at Penn Trafford 26-7. Still control much of their destiny with West Allegheny and Upper St Clair coming to them at the end of the season.
Thomas Jefferson 4A 4-0; Like West Allegheny, the Jags have 3 shutouts with an offense scoring 56ppg! They’ll need all that against Ringgold 3-1, Mars 4-1, Belle Vernon 4-0 and West Mifflin 5-0; Wow! Looks like the Wpial postseason right there!
West Mifflin 4A 5-0; D7’s 4As are on fire with the Titans at a torrid clip scoring 45ppg while allowing 17. Struggling Greensburg-Salem at 1-4 are next.
Belle Vernon 4A 4-0; Belle Vernon is ripping it too, averaging 40ppg, allowing 10 in the impressive Big-9 Conference. BV, Ringgold, West Mifflin and TJ! 0-5 Laurel Highlands is next.
Mars 4A 4-1; Mars has lost to powerful AAAA South Fayette 35-14 allowing for some perspective and perhaps linkage. They aren’t winning as impressively as Big-9 teams are although they have stiff comp coming from fellow NW9 teams like New Castle.
New Castle 4A 4-1; 4-0 since opening loss to Aliquippa. Home to Mars to sort things out.
South Fayette 4A 5-0; Here’s the real power in the NW9 with New Castle (4-1) chomping at the bit to get at them if they can get past Mars this weekend. Meanwhile, the Lions will be winning at Blackhawk (3-2) if they don’t get cocky. Their resume includes strong wins against Central Valley and Mars, both 4-1. With an 8 year record counting this season of 93-9 that includes back-to-back state titles in 2013 and 2014 (16-0 both years), this is one of the Pittsburgh area’s finest programs.

Father Judge Football

FJ football is at a crossroads IMO. We cannot continue gauging a successful season or not by the Ryan result. We have to step up vs the big boys and at least stay competitive unlike tonight's 35-7 drubbing to LaSalle in a heavy steady mist at NEHS. I know FJ had some key injuries up front and their QB and WR/DB were not at 100%. Depth is where a team like FJ falls at the waste side compared to the big boys... i.e. LaSalle, Prep and Wood. LaSalle has had key injuries too but that did not stop them from drubbing both Ryan and Judge in back to back weeks. FJ still has the aforementioned Wood and Prep on the docket. I do like what I'm seeing at Judge this year as far as games being well attended. You see a lot more Judge gear in the neighborhood these days. I think the new President, AD and Admissions Director have breathed new life into the program through youth and innovative marketing techniques. We need a monumental win up Rowland and Solly and not the same ho-hum wins against the Council Rocks, Germantown Academies and Ryan's of the PIAA. Until then FJ will continue to be an afterthought in the PCL.

Local kid playing well @ Wisc from Malvern Prep

Always great to see a local kid doing well..

Alex Hornibrook was the picture of calm heading into his first starting assignment for Wisconsin, even though it would come before a hostile crowd of 75,000 at Michigan State against the eighth-ranked Spartans.

A redshirt freshman quarterback from West Chester, Hornibrook last week did what many thought wasn't possible for a guy with limited experience. The Malvern Prep graduate led the Badgers to a 30-6 victory over the Spartans and made them a contender in the Big Ten.

The 6-foot-4, 219-pound Hornibrook completed 16 of 26 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, he was 6-of-6 for 100 yards on third-and-10 or longer. To him, however, the magnitude of the game was no big deal.

"It just seemed like another football game," he told reporters afterward.

Hornibrook, who passed for Malvern Prep records of 2,156 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior, had committed to Pittsburgh but reconsidered after head coach Paul Chryst left the Panthers to take the same job with the Badgers. Hornibrook followed and learned last year while sitting on the sidelines.

Wisconsin now has defeated the No. 5 team in the nation (Louisiana State) and No. 8 (Michigan State). Its next game is Saturday against No. 4 (Michigan) and, after getting next week off, they come back to face No. 2 (Ohio State). It's going to be quite a ride for Hornibrook.

The Badgers have some injury issues, however. Kicker Rafael Gaglianone is out for the season after back surgery, and outside linebacker Vince Biegel reportedly had surgery for a fractured foot and could miss up to four weeks

Is Prep overrated ?

Last night I finished watching the Prep vs. Wood game and as I was watching I kept saying to myself this doesn't look like the great team ALL have spoken about (yes, I know Swift didn't play much). Everyone has them punched in as State Champs but I was at the Pennridge game vs. North penn this past Friday night and I think at this time North Penn is the better team. Preps Qb did not impress me with his throwing or his running and I give a big edge to the NP QB who makes all the throws to a fast group of 4-5 receivers. Im looking forward to when these two teams meet. I will say that my team the Rams looked very inept on D
