Mini Quick hits: Big matchups across the Commonwealth.

(Home on left, 6A unless indicated otherwise)

D1
North Penn 3-0 vs Central Bucks West 3-0

The Buck stops here with consensus probably feeling Knights smoke the Bucks, especially with a 3-0 mark getting their attention.
Central Bucks South 3-0 vs Central Bucks East 3-0
Both are waltzing through a schedule of rebuilding teams allowing for some misleads but a win is a win and this will sort thing out….a little!
Pennridge 1-2 vs Souderton 3-0
Souderton is 3-0 scoring a pile of points (106) but two of their opponents are winless while Rams are also scoring points, albeit in losing causes but to Neshaminy and Perkiomen Valley. Plus, Soudrton allowed 70 points (20, 23, 27) to teams with a combined record of 2-7.
Perkiomen Valley 3-0 vs Haverford School 2-0
Both have offenses in high gear with defenses looking vulnerable. Perk Val allowing 28 average and Fords 34 in a quality win last week against West Catholic.
Spring Ford 2-1 vs Exeter Township 5A 2-0
Exeter has some firepower (and neat helmets) but nothing like Rams who may take a quarter working out the kinks of their double overtime loss to Wilson last week before getting it together. A little vulnerable but should have enough to take care of another good Reading team.
Strath Haven 5A 2-1 vs Ridley 3-0
It’s always a big deal in Delco when these two get together and the Panthers are rolling, losing to a good Interboro team in the opener 36-35, then storming Harriton and Lower Merion by a combined score of 88-21. Right, expected, but games like that can get the offense up and running. Early and all but RIdley made a statement with a great win last week at Garnet Valley, 28-20.
Henderson 5A 3-0 vs Coatesville 2-1
Henderson snuck past Oxford 24-21 and Rustin 13-6 before coming together against O.J. Roberts 35-0 while Coatesville recovered from the 41-21 thumping by Cumberland Valley traveling to CR North for an easy 54-20 win. So both are off big, confidence building wins. Henderson should have the focus rebounding from last year’s rare 1-9 season with a lot of speed and skill people. Got to love the setting behind the school. Too cool!
East High (West Chester) 5A 2-1 vs Bishop Shanahan 5A 3-0
Both teams return a lot of skill and speed with East having over 1100 yards in receptions and +700 yards rushing in the backfield. Shanahan has one of the few returning quarterbacks to the Ches Mont in Nick Skulski (+1400 pass yards) and 7 defensive starters. East is coming off a 29-10 win against Rustin while Shanahan is coming off a 50-6 win over Pottstown, averaging 42ppg, allowing 8.

D2
Wyoming Valley West 5A 2-1 vs Williamsport 3-0

This one will tell us if the Millionaires are a well kept secret in the hinterlands, especially with all the rebuilding going on in D11, and if an entire team returning from a 6-5 campaign means anything. Valley West is sneaking by people, Scranton 48-41 and Hazelton 26-15 before losing to Delaware Valley last week 29-13. Not a good sign. For those liking comparative scores, Williamsport beat Hazelton 42-13 last week.

D3
Central Dauphin 2-0 vs Wilson 2-0

Last year’s 12-2 team beat Wilson 20-19 in West Lawn only to lose to Cumberland Valley in last year’s epic district final, 62-61….in 7 overtimes. Both CD and Wilson come into this one healthy and looking good, CD averaging 31ppg in their 3rd straight homer, Wilson averaging 40. The difference may be a physical, stout Ram D, a veteran quarterback and a rowdy home crowd at Landis (Speed Ebersole Stadium) while Wilson comes in off the double overtime win against Spring Ford in their first road game of the year. Should be fun times at the Speedway.
Cumberland Valley 3-0 vs Bishop McDevitt 4A 1-2
CV lost 4 straight to McDevitt but none worse than last year’s 41-14 pounding. Both lost in the PIAA semifinal last year. Excellent spot for Eagles to get the win with Crusaders struggling and coming off a 35-7 destruction by DeMatha, allowing the Stags 285 rushing yards to their 48!

D4, D5, D6

D7
Penn Trafford 5A 3-0 vs Woodland Hills 5A 3-0

Only 5 starters back on offense, most are on the line, with just 1 returning to the defense for PT and pretty much the same for Woodland Hills returning zero to the offense and 3 to the D yet both are undefeated. You expect that from Woody but Penn Trafford’s status suggests a reload which is a statement for them and the program’s resurgence. And quite a statement here if they beat the Wolverines!
Penn Hills 2-1 vs Pine Richland 2-1
Penn Hills slipped beneath the radar lately but they still flood the field with athletes and speed making them at least a threat. The loss was to Canada Prep Academy (St. Catharines-Ontario) 50-42 who beat St Vincent-St Mary (Akron) last week. No embarrassment in that as they play a “national” slate facing McDonogh this week followed by St. Edward the following. Routing Butler 37-6 and Canon McMillan 56-21 both on the road says Penn Hills’ offense in high gear. Pine Richland should win but it could get interesting.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic 2-1 vs Hempfield 3-0
This probably looks ridiculous as a “Big Matchup” and it may be but the Spartans are undefeated coming off a surprise win over Mount Lebanon few expected. More, they return most of last year’s team, 7 to the offense and 8 to the D including their entire defensive front plus their safeties. Justin Sliwoski is slingin it for +700 yards at 59%, completing 24 of 41 vs Lebo for 328 yards! Like Penn Hills-Pine Richland, this could get interesting.

D8, D9

D10
Benedictine-OH 1-2 vs Cathedral Prep 4A 3-0

Cathedral just slugged their way out of the city beating Strong Vincent 77-8, Central Tech 55-13 and McDowell 31-15 while Benedictine is rebuilding from two great years of success going 12-1 last year and 14-1 the year before with a state title. Their 5 year won-loss is 45-17 so it’s no walk in the park for the Ramblers.

D11
Easton 2-1 vs Parkland 2-1

Easton’s only loss was on the road to Freedom 27-20 while Parkland’s only loss was at home to Liberty 14-6, a team Easton lost to 28-21 on the road. The Rovers home field advantage may be neutralized by this being their third consecutive game against a high quality opponent, having just played Liberty and Freedom, some size disadvantages wearing them down (?) and Parkland returning a good defensive core allowing 33 total points to date.

D12….Red Division openers.
Archbishop Wood 5A 0-1 vs St. Joseph’s Prep 2-0

Archbishop Wood is battle tested with the 21-21 suspended (cancelled) game against Wayne (Huber Hgts-OH) and the loss to Bergen Catholic. Incidentally and for some perspective, Wayne has since defeated Archbishop Moeller 37-17 and Lakota West 51-7. Who knows if the sophomore quarterback can get it done but Raheem Blacksheer can definitely do damage with some help from the passing game. Figuratively speaking, from above?! Actually both are battle tested, returning a lot of bodies but only one is 2-0 scoring 42ppg with convincing wins against Oaks Christian and Don Bosco Prep. Wood was idle last week while the Hawks were beating the Ironmen 35-24.
Archbishop Ryan 5A 3-0 vs Father Judge 5A 2-1
Father Judge won last year’s game 20-14 but are coming off a 16-13 loss in Wilmington against Salesianum who was reloading in their first game of the year, whereas Ryan is on a 3 game streak, winning by an average score of 38-6. It’s at Ryan putting Judge on the road for the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks.

More quick hits, teams across the Commonwealth….6A:

Ran out of time for more not getting to McDowell and Cathedral in 10, Manheim Central in 3 and others. Maybe a mid season check-up in a few weeks. Feel free to jump in or on.
D-11
Parkland 2-0;
Graduated an army of talent but didn’t leave the cupboard bare with crush jobs against Allen 56-6 and last week against Nazareth 38-13. Thought Naz would be more with good numbers, sizeable lines and a decent Qb returning suggesting Trojans have rebuilt well. Much about how things shake out in the East will reveal itself this weekend after Parkland plays undefeated Liberty.
Liberty 2-0; Got past a typical competitive East Stroudsburg South team in opener 42-21 then the BIG win last week beating Easton 28-21. Parkland will be a tough act following Easton being Canes first road game.
Freedom 2-0; Haven’t been tested yet but pummeled Allentown Central Catholic 31-8 and Allen High 48-0. That all changes this week at home against a Rover bunch ready to rumble after losing at Liberty last week in the 4th quarter.
Emmaus 2-0; The Green Hornets D is swarming, stuffing Diefuff 77-13 (77 to 13!....week 1!) then Whitehall 38-14 last week. Not bad for a young team rebuilding from major grad losses of a 7-5 team while sporting a 1st year head coach in Harold Fairclough. They’re at Bethlehem Catholic this week.
Easton 1-1; Beat Stroudsburg in opener 35-6 and probably Liberty but for the lack of a passing attack (7/17, 102yds) in part dooming them after rushing for 187 yards in the 28-21 loss to the Hurricanes.
Bethlehem Catholic 4A 2-0; Graduated some fine talent the last two years (9-2 last, 12-2 prior) but return an experienced line and senior backs to pound on opponents while they look for a Qb. Beat Pocono Mountain West in opener 59-15 with no passing attack (394ry) then maybe broke the tie between Liam Nixon and Javon Clements with the latter completing 5/8 for 170 yards in a 50-0 rout of Northampton. Emmaus is up next and are just young enough to be in trouble here on the road against a Beca bunch playing with new attitude….if scores mean anything.
D-7
Pittsburgh Central Catholic 1-1;
Began season with a home loss to St. John’s 35-14 then crushed Shaler 48-7. Don’t discount Vikings per St. John’s loss as SJ has a boatload of talent combining with transfers already committed to the likes of Maryland; Qb Kasim Hill and DT Cam Spence (6-6, 310) who came in from IMG. Also got Gilman transfer Shane Lee (LB). They just may have enough to break the 13 year hold DeMatha and Good Counsel have on the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. Back to Central Catholic; they’re home in a game of real impact in the Wpial and state playing North Allegheny.
North Allegheny 1-1; Like Central Catholic, they lost a tough one in the opener to Olentangy Liberty-OH 30-29 and struggled with oft competitive Bethel Park winning 21-14. No rest for the weary as they head to Central Catholic for their first road trip of the year.
Pine Richland 1-1; Lost a heartbreaker at St. Edward-OH 28-27 with effects showing last week edging Mount Lebanon 42-31. Took a late comeback to dispose of Lebo with QB Phil Jurkovec (ND) throwing for 355 yards on a 21 of 32 outing while rushing for 126 yards! If the Rams find any kind of defense it’s hard imagining anyone stopping them. Seneca Valley (1-0) is next in Rams home opener. Sen Val is scoring points again beating Peters Two 48-24 and gave PR a war last year before losing 35-28.
Woodland Hills 5A 2-0; Wolverines keep spewing out wins like clockwork beating Gateway 37-21 then Baldwin last week 48-20. They’re at Fox Chapel this week where the winless Foxes will drop to 0-3 barring a major upset.
Penn Trafford 5A 2-0; Warriors got a jump on things after a pile of graduations taking advantage of two home games beating Norwin 7-14 and Connellsville 48-7. And they should get to 3-0 if Plum’s 28-7 loss to Kiski means anything. Mustang’s home opener and Warriors first road game says it could get dicey.
Upper St. Clair 5A 1-0; The Panthers took down always competitive North Hills last week 28-7 and now play Moon who was throttled by Armstrong last week 35-0. USC should make real noise this year dropping to 5A with most of last year’s starters back. Add in one of the greatest coaches in Pennsylvania’s storied history in Jim Render (5 Wpial titles, 384-130-4 W/L, 38th season) to suggest USC will return to form, bringing old school-power football back to the South Hills.
McKeesport 5A 1-0; It was Panthers vs Tigers with Franklin Regional falling at McKeesport 14-7 in a typical brutal game between two ground pounders. McKeesport dodged a bullet in this one when Franklin Regional fumbled twice inside the 10 yard line. Undefeated Armstrong (who?) is next at 2-0 after getting past Karns City (D-9, 3A bad ass) in the opener 35-22 then Moon 35-0, both on the road. About Armstrong, they are the result of a merger of Ford City and Kittanning. If they can match McKeesport’s speed, which is doubtful with so much newness, the River Hawks will make it a game.
Mid-State (D-3, D-6)
Wilson 1-0;
Wilson made a statement in the district trouncing arch rival Governor Mifflin 38-7 in the opener. They were fast and physical while using two junior quarterbacks, Connor Uhrig and Grayson Kline. While that is very un-Bulldog like, the next two games against Spring Ford then the road trip to Central Dauphin (Go Rams!) will likely see Coach Dahms settle in on one.
State College (D6) 1-0; Put Lions here per their alignment with the Mid Penn Commonwealth where they play with Harrisburg teams Central Dauphin, Central Dauphin East and Harrisburg as well as Carlisle, Chambersburg and Cumberland Valley. They got off to a rocky start similar to last year (lost at Spring Ford) but held on to win in Lancaster against an athletic McCaskey team 24-13. Hollidaysburg (1-1) is next where the Lions should name it.
Central Dauphin 1-0; Everyone back home is saying it’s all about the Rams D which is always strong but look for the offense to be a factor this year if, repeat, if the passing game develops. It did not last year but AJ Millar has 2 plus years now under center and has grown to 6-2, 200 as a senior. Plus he can run. They waffled Manheim Township 31-9 last week, a team many expected to challenge Wilson in the LL. Big and fast Susquehanna Township from the north side is next at 1-0. They’re rebuilding the offense but the D typically features people who really fly to the ball.
Cumberland Valley 1-0; The Eagles are off a surprisingly easy time of it in Coatesville last week where they beat the Red Raiders 41-22. With a smattering of returning starters some felt it would be a tight affair. Wrong! But it’s the same ole Eagles who batter you with a plethora of battering ram backs in their Wing-T then zing you with a speedy little water bug zipping out of the backfield for a long gainer. They’re at Central York next where the Panthers are coming off a resounding 45-15 win over rival West York. Eagles won last year 48-6 and the preceding 5 years in the 6 year series where they have dominated.
Red Land 5A 2-0; Nope not Red Lion out of the York-Adams but Red Land from the Mid Penn-Keystone on the West Shore. They got everyone’s attention right off the bat beating Harrisburg-Bishop McDevitt at McD 17-6 in the opener at their place! Holding McDevitt to 6 points!*? Then they beat a former AAA- LL power Cocalico 29-2 to make another statement….again, on the road. The Patriots get a chance to make yet another statement when Carlisle’s extreme passing assault comes in for a Friday night game.
Carlisle 1-0; Looks like another HUGE passing attack for the Herd who blasted rival Mechanicsburg last week 44-0. A glance at scores across the state says defense took a vacation opening week. That may upset all my fellow defensive soul mates but it is sure fun to watch. They’re at Lewisberry (beside Camp Hill) this week in a match between the Mid Penn Commonwealth and the MP-Keystone. Pats better have a lot of cover people, CBs who can run and safeties that can cover (good luck there!) with Carlisle returning 5 receivers with 3214 total yards in receptions. Qb Eric Harris (6-2, 205, sr) threw for 3642 yards last year, completing 275 of 406 for a 68% completion rate. The Herd will shake things up in the MP-Commonwealth this year.
Bishop McDevitt 4A, 1-1; Given they lost the opener in a major surprise in the district, followed by a typical, bruising rivalry game with Harrisburg High that they won 28-12, the timing couldn’t be worse for a game with national power DeMatha out of Hyattsville, MD. The Stags are 2-0, defeating Virginia power Oscar Smith 42-7 and Avalon 55-20. QB Beau English is worth the trip to Harrisburg! He’s slated for one of the academies. DeMatha is currently ranked 5th in the country (USA-Today), behind Gorman, Booker T, IMG and Mater Dei. No association with the football program but was fortunate enough to attend a basketball camp put on by Coach Morgan Wootten at Frostburg State back in the day. Real tough spot for the Crusaders and the wrong team to be having line issues against.
Cedar Cliff 5A 1-0; Qb Grant Breneman picked up where he left off last year (1855 py, 464 ry)throwing 4 Tds for 165 yards while completing 11 of 15 passes in a 40-0 shellacking of Penn Manor at West Shore Stadium last week. We’ll likely see more of that with his experience behind a veteran line (4/6) if they can replace the quality skill losses. They’ll roll at Mifflin County this weekend then come home for two straight against York High and Keystone rival Lower Dauphin, giving them a shot at 4-0 before McDevitt. For the West guys, RB/LB Francis Duggan (6-3, 220) transferred in from Pittsburgh Central Catholic (originally from Mechanicsburg) and blocked a punt that led to a score vs Manor.

LaSalle Guys?

Just wondering where the LaSalle guys, other than Paul, are this year. JBin, FB25, Jiveturkey ...? I know they've had a bit of a rough start, but I can't believe that's the explanation.

The board as a whole is a lot less active than it used to be. Frustrations with the format? Guys just getting older. Seems like a long time since the days of Blitz, Slam, Lift, etc.

West Catholic-Haverford School

I followed this game through Huck's Twitter reports. Sounds like Kidd-Jackson had a great game for WC but that WC just ran out of gas as the game wore on--something that seems to have happened more than a few times in recent years. I don't imagine the heat was any help.

How does HS's team compare to last year's? I'm assuming it's their greater depth that made the difference against WC. Too bad the Burrs can't kick extra points or field goals.

Rumor Mill

Rumor has it… NP has two new students from a private school in Fort Washington that happen to play a fall sport – if this is true is a push for a district title is eminent – if this is true can they play this fall? what about starters who have worked all year? Will high maintenance dads take over the program? What would Abby lee do?

All these questions and more to follow on the next episode of football dads

FINAL: 'Skins 42 - Whippets 14

On the fourth play of the first series in the game Mason Jones hit junior Mike Garlick for a 74 yard score and the first 'Skins TD of the night. Then not long after they stitched together a nice drive for the second touchdown with Will Dogba taking it in.

Still in the first, D-Town's Riddick looked good on a nice drive for his team to make it 14-7 with 2:00 left in that period (a lot of action in the initial 10 minutes). And Neshaminy looked like they relaxed on that drive perhaps thinking the game would be an easy one (don't do that).

The early pace then slowed down quite a bit over the next 8 minutes or so before Jones hit sophomore Corey Joyce for a 50 plus yarder to make it 21-7 with 6:55 left on the 2nd quarter clock.

The Whippets then responded with a very, very nice 13 play 80 yard drive and scored with less than a minute left in the second quarter. Neshaminy was letting them make too many nice gains with their ground game (misdirection stuff). With that score it was 21-14 for Neshaminy at the half.

In the third quarter Jones hit Zach Tredway for another TD pass with 5:44 on the clock (that score closed out a beautiful 95 yard drive by the Redskins to make it 28-14). And at that point in the game Jones had hit for three aerial TDs even though he had missed on a fair amount of throws (the 'Skins receivers had probably dropped three that were easy catches so they weren't helping). It does appear that Jones either nails it or misses it. As to Dogba, he was also chewing up some nice yards to that time in the game (he just chugs and chugs).

Moving into the fourth Neshaminy then put together another long drive that stalled out in close but they soon got the ball back and then scored after a shorter drive to make it 35-14. Dogba was dinged on that series and went to the bench (he must have had 150 yards, at least, by then) and the back up RB, junior Mike Crescenzo, did the honors on that score.

A little later, following a picked D-Town pass and a short field for Neshaminy, the 'Skins punched in another ground score to make it 42-14. And once again the back up RB - Crescenzo - did a really great job filling in for Dogba (he's got very quick acceleration).

Then that's the way the game ended.

It seemed a little like the game was in slow motion but still Neshaminy must have piled up a lot of yards (probably in that 425 to 450 range). And just like the first two games that they have played it seemed that the other team just sort of faded away in the second half (while the 'Skins just kept on their same game). Plus their game is misleading too as they "do things" that are pretty nice but it just of looks like it's rolling along mechanically - just happening as if it's supposed to be that way (if that makes sense).

Anyway, good game for them (and they are 3-0 so no complaints).

Go 'Skins!

Spring-Ford loses a heartbreaker at Wilson West Lawn 41-40 in 2 OT's

What a game. Not many teams go into John Gurski Stadium and leave with a victory against this District 3 power. The Rams held a 27-24 lead with a minute left but Wilson drove down the field and kicked a tying FG. After the Rams scored in the second OT, they went for 2 and didn't get it.

One thing is for sure, The Pac 10 has shown in the last few years they are for real.

Pennsbury Offense

Haven't seen the Falcons yet this year, but what's up with their offense? 10 points in two games. And all those points came against Frankford. The same Frankford that Perk Valley scored 46 against. I know they went to a spread attack, but what's up?

I guess the good thing for Pennsbury fans is they will be fine come league play. The SOL National is awful this year, all teams except Neshaminy and maybe Bensalem (who I think wins this week vs Lincoln) will go into league play with losing records.

Terror attack in Bangladesh; time for Incapable to hold another global warming forum.

That's the plan right? Divert attention from the terror attacks by holding forums on global warming. It happened in Canada this past week, as Incapabama showed that he could "move on" from the Orlando terrorist attack.

I don't think that works even with the pinhead, low information voters on here; but it won't stop Incapabama from trying.

D1 AAAAAA

North Penn the overwhelming favorite with Downingtown East, Garnet Valley, Neshaminy, Pennridge, Perkiomen Valley, Ridley, and Springford having solid teams.

Pennridge at Perk Valley will help provide the PAC 10's level of play in 2016.

Springford has a tough road trip to Wilson.

Roman Catholic at Downingtown East might give a hint as to Neshaminy's chances versus NP.

Ridley at Garnet Valley will be a battle between two probable playoff squads.

Neshaminy looking to avoid 3 straight losses to Downingtown West.

SE PA….quick hits: 6A

Here’s a fast summary of scores, etc on 6A teams plus a few in lower classes thrown in; Wood, Springfeild, etc. Light stuff for fun and a few facts.

PCL:
St. Joseph’s 1-0;
Wow! Few expected a 49-17 rout of Oaks Christian last week, setting up this week’s game with Don Bosco Prep coming in off a rare shutout by American Heritage last week, 21-0. DBP won last year 55-21.
LaSalle 1-1; Nice rebound beating Pennsbury 28-0 after the 33-24 loss at North Penn. Malvern Prep from the Inter-Ac is next, a team they beat last year 21-14. The Friars lost to St. Augustine Prep-NJ (#7) last week 47-30 and will come in looking for pay-back and avoiding a 0-2 start.
Archbishop Ryan, 5A, 2-0; Great start averaging 40ppg destroying Quakertown then Bonner with Lansdale Cath this week setting up good stuff vs Judge who will also be 3-0 if get past Sallies. Then LaSalle Sept 24th .
Archbishop Wood, 5A, 0-1; Lost to Bergen Catholic 34-16 last week after the 21-21 “called game” vs Wayne-OH the previous week. Idle this week then St. Joe’s.
Father Judge 2-0; looking to go 3-0 at Salesianum after beating CR North and Germantown Academy by a combined score of 75-14. Catch Sallies in their opener after scrimmaging AI DuPont and Sussex Central.
Roman Catholic 1-1; Tough 28-20 loss to Neshaminy in opener followed by the big win in the War at the Shore beating West Catholic 28-7. Another tough one this week at Kottmeyer playing Downingtown East (1-1). East won last year 35-21.

SOL-Nat
Neshaminy 2-0;
Great start beating Roman 28-20 and Pennridge 31-24. And if they can get past winless Downingtown West who is struggling on the D side allowing 76 total points (!) in losses to Perkiomen Valley 42-41 and Wayne Valley-NJ 34-31, they’ll run the table.

SOL-American
Upper Dublin, 5A, 2-0;
Same with the surprising defending district champion Cardinals who are blowing out people following wholesale graduations, beating Methacton 41-0 and Truman by the same score. Check the schedule to see if you can find a loss!

SOL-Continental
North Penn 2-0;
You knew once they beat LaSalle 33-24 they were good, then beating Downingtown East last week 23-7 sealed that deal. Pennsbury is next and looking shabby after a 1-1 start but it’s Pennsbury-North Penn where anything goes.
CB South 2-0; The schedule says Titans can get a head of steam going before North Penn the 30th especially with winless CR South next being outscored 68-7 vs Judge and CB West. South’s D shut down Abington 13-6 on the road and CR North in their home opener 35-6.
CB East 2-0; Teams are really scoring a lot of points early this season with the Pats outscoring Cheltenham and Hatboro 66-13. Nothing like winning your first two unless it’s your first three. Methacton will be win #3 before the great clash with CB South.
CB West 2-0; The Bucks are kicking-A and taking names too, beating Hatboro 17-6 and CR South 28-7. Winless Quakertown is next but it’s West’s first road game and Panthers battled hard last week at Souderton; no give-up. Early and all but collectively the Central Bucks schools are 6-0 by a combined score of 159 to 38, a 27-6 avg score.
Souderton 2-0; Here’s another undefeated Continental defeating Plymouth Whitemarsh 38-23 and Quakertown 26-20. I don’t think anyone on the team has been to Hatboro where they play this week in Hatter’s home opener. Should be tough given Souderton’s struggles with Q-town.
Pennridge 1-1; Rams won’t have any trouble scoring points this year with their typical line, decent backs and an exciting quarterback. But after seeing what Neshaminy did to them in Perkasie you’ve got to think they’re in big trouble Friday night in Collegeville looking down Perkiomen Valley’s offensive juggernaut. This one could top 100.

Pioneer Liberty
Perkiomen Valley 2-0;
First year coach Rob Heist has it going with an experienced team that is veteran in skill and the lines making them one tough nut to crack. QB Stephen Sturm (68%, 31136yds, 31/7 Td-Pick last year) at 6-2 200 is the real deal as are receivers Justin Jaworski with 1224 yds and Sean Owens with 417. Ricky Williams had 628 rushing last year and the lines are legit; Chris Jiminez 6-5, 265, Vaughn Stolzer, 6-2, 250, Jahir Holmes 6-1, 240, Sam Bonavita, 6-1, 230, Kevin Mo, 6-1, 310, Noah Shine 6-1, 225. Beat Downingtown West in the opener there 42-41 and Frankford 46-24. Pennridge is next in what should be one of the top games in Eastern PA with Sturm and Rams QB Jagger Hartshorn lighting up the night sky.
Spring Ford 2-0; The Rams are already in high gear, beating Unionville 33-3 then whipping Chester last week 55-22. Like Perk Val, they return a strong core, especially at skill and the lines where 4 of 6 return. With their principal receivers (893 yds) and running backs (1425yds) returning, they’re set. The new QB, TJ Pergine (5-11, 185, jr), always a strength in Coach Brubaker’s system, completed 11 of 15 for 158 yds and 3 Tds plus ran for two scores against Chester. Wilson (West Lawn) is next. Bulldogs are 1-0 after beating arch rival Governor Mifflin 38-7 last week with Central Dauphin loomng after Spring Ford. Sandwich game? Coach was on the Wilson staff for years as O/C. Should be a good one but Wilson is one mean Bulldog at Gurski.

Central
Ridley 2-0;
Sailed past Truman in the opener 41-6 then fought off defending conference champ Haverford who brought it before losing 7-0 and falling to 0-2. The Raiders are on the road again this week at nemesis Garnet Valley for another battle between historic Central League kingpins.
Garnet Valley 2-0; G-Val is still G-Val, wearing you down with depth and the usual compliment of good players. After winning the slugfest at West Chester against Rustin in the opener 24-16, they got it together the following week to crush Upper Darby 66-22. Nice start, going 2-0 on the road. Next up is Ridley in Jags home opener before a packed house of rowdy fans and pumped up Jaguars. Tough spot for Ridley.
Springfield, 5A, 2-0; Great start for Springfield getting out the gate fast with road wins at Glen Mills beating the Battling Bulls 24-16 and Conestoga where they destroyed the Pioneers 66-22. Winless Upper Darby is next playing Cougars in their home opener.

Ches Mont National
Downingtown East 1-1;

Beat Delaware Valley in opener 23-6 then lost at North Penn 23-7 in a game that was 7-7 early in the 3rd. Dangerous Roman Catholic is next and if they can win this one, they can string a few together before playing Shanahan.
Downingtown West 0-2; Lost in their opener to Perkiomen Valley 42-41 and again the following week to Wayne Valley-NJ 34-31, also at home. Great comeback vs Perk Val with some tough scheduling with Wayne Val who returned a lot of skill people off a 9-2 season. Neshaminy is next in their third straight home game.
Coatesville 1-1; Coatesville pounded Simon Gratz 51-14 to begin the season then lost to D3 power Cumberland Valley 41-21. Thought C-ville might bring more to the table with CV rebuilding and on the road and in their season opener.
Bishop Shanahan, 5A, 2-0, With a lot of bodies returning they’re starting strong, routing GW 56-13 then Glen Mills 29-6 last week. The fun continues this week at home against Pottstown who at 0-2 allowing 63 points won't slow em down.
