Q&A with Upper St Clair safety Ethan Hiester

How did the high school football season go overall?

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“The Allegheny Eight is in my opinion the toughest conference in the state. Every Friday night will be our toughest competition. They are all good football teams.”

“Our season went well with regards to the fact that we had a very small amount of seniors. The team really came together and played to the best of our ability.”

“I really need to work on my overall athleticism and being able to land more blocks on the second level and stop wide edge rushers more effectively.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?

Kobe

I know this is a "football board", but just wanted to comment on the passing of Kobe. Lower Merion, SEPA, the state of Pa and so on, lost a giant in the sports world today. A global icon. A guy that loved and gave back to his roots. I remember his battles with Chester. His battles with RIP Hamilton and Coatesville. The best HS player I ever saw live. I know I had a poster of him on my wall growing up. I lost one of my childhood heroes. Thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of everyone on board. A stunning and tragic loss

Q&A with DuBois Area wide receiver Dale Kot

How did the high school football season go overall?
“It went pretty good other than the outcome of the games was not what I wanted. I feel like I had a great season overall until I broke my ribs toward the end of the season during one of the games. I had almost 1,000 all-purpose yards without playing the last 2 games.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Other than football, I play basketball and run track. I am trying to get to the weight room every day to work on strength. I love to be active as much as possible.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“I am trying to improve on speed, strength, and confidence. My confidence is what leads to most of my mistakes. Catching the ball is key and speed is a must.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“There are lots of concerns on how the team will do next year due to the outcome of this season, but I feel that we will overcome the adversity and have a pretty decent season.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“I am planning on going to some very soon in the near future.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Yes, Penn State mainly.”

Q&A with Serra Catholic wide receiver Zach Weber

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season started out good, but we kept beating ourselves towards the end and made it harder for us to make playoffs. Unfortunately, we lost in the first round.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am going to a speed and strength trainer as well as lifting on my own. I’m trying to get more velocity on my long snaps. I also play baseball and winter workouts started.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“I want to get faster, get more yards after the catch, be a better blocker, and most importantly take on a bigger leadership role.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think we will be a really tough team. We were really young last year, and it was great because of all the experience we got as underclassmen. This should definitely benefit us in the upcoming season.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“With all the talk about shuffling teams around, I haven’t really thought about who our toughest competition will be. All we can worry about is our team and we will be ready to face anyone.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to continue my football career into college. I love the game and playing college ball has been a goal of mine.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I have always liked Pitt.”

Q&A with Central Dauphin defensive back Juice Selby

How did the high school football season go overall?
“As a team it was actually pretty amazing, especially considering that before the season started we were predicted to go 4th in our league and we ended up with a district championship and were runner ups in the state championship game. For me personally my expectations going in was that I wouldn’t play a lot because of the talent I had in front of me guys like Nicky Chimienti, Malachi Bowman, Tyress Fuller, and Nyeem Sims. I was a little disappointed when opportunities opened up and I couldn’t capitalize because I fractured my ankle the second week into the season keeping me out until about the midway point of the year. Then when I came back a freak accident a week later while fracturing C2 and C3 vertebrae is what put me out for the rest of the year.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“This off-season, I decided to not play any sports and to focus on football and getting bigger, stronger, and faster to secure a starting spot on my opinion one of the best defenses in the state of PA.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“As I said previously, I want to get bigger, stronger, and faster off the field but on the field there are three big things I want to focus on getting better at. One being reading offenses in-case I ever need to make the transition to safety from corner. Another being playing the ball in the air because I feel like that and shaving .3 seconds off my 40-yard dash will make my man to man coverage a problem for any receiver I’ll play. Lastly, I want to work on my open field tackling, because right now I feel like I’m way too aggressive and it causes me to miss way too many tackles.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Since 8th grade, I felt that our 2021 year will be the best year Central Dauphin has seen in a while. Of course, that’ll be difficult, due to the success of our team this year, but I think if any squad can do it this team can. We have so many returning players and more importantly up and coming players that I feel will help us stay on top of district 3 and even compete for a state championship again.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“Every year, we play so many great teams, but if I had to pick one team that I think will give us the best game I’d have to say State College because they’re bringing back so many really good players.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play football in college, hopefully D1.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve talked to a few big schools because of my camp and 7 on 7 performances, but I wouldn’t say any schools are recruiting seeing as though I don’t have any in-game varsity film.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I haven’t made any trips yet, but I did get lucky enough to have those opportunities presented to me. I turned a lot of them down because of 7 on 7 and camps.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“This summer, I’ll be attending a camp at WVU and Coastal Carolina so hopefully I can perform well enough that they’ll invite to visit their University.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up, I loved rooting for the teams everyone hated so living in PA the most hated college was Ohio State. That naturally just became my favorite college.”

Q&A with South Fayette wide receiver Joey Audia

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season was great winning another conference championship, but we came up short to our end goal while losing in the semifinals.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Lifting with my team and working on my speed and route running with Evolve 2/10ths.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“As a player, I’m trying to improve on different techniques to use as a receiver and also my overall strength, speed, and agility.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Moving up a classification, I believe my team will be able to compete at a high level after succeeding in 4A and putting in work all winter, spring, and summer.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“Moving up to 5A, my team will play great competition every week and no one team will be looked at as worse or better than the others.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I am planning on playing football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“As of now, a few Ivy League colleges.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Penn and Columbia.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I visited Penn for a gameday visit.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“I plan on getting to Columbia and NYC in the next few months and I’ll be going back up to Penn too.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up
“Growing up, I loved the University of Pennsylvania. Justin Watson, who went to South Fayette, played at Penn and is now with the Buccaneers. When I was playing youth football and went to all the high school games, I would always see Justin play and know he was going to UPenn.”

Q&A with Bishop Shanahan linebacker Carson Binder

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Last season was a huge success for our program. Bishop Shanahan won its first District 1-4A championship in the school’s history. We were eliminated in round 1 of the State Playoffs, but we had a strong year overall.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“For sports, I am playing lacrosse and participating in track in the spring. I am working out as part of the off-season Titus program at Shanahan as well as working with my trainer/mentor Coach Jayson Williams for private workouts.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“Speed, speed and more speed. Agility and footwork to help improve my speed as an edge rusher as well as my ability to play offensive line since my coach told me I will be on that side of the ball also as a senior.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe we have the potential to compete again for a district championship and state playoffs even though we are going to be a young team since we are graduating many senior starters. Our goal is to go deeper in the playoffs.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“New year, same competition. We play three schools who are consistently ranked in the top 10 in SE PA. Downingtown East, Downingtown West and Coatesville. These are very big public high schools and we are a very small private Catholic school. This is always our toughest test.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I would like to play football in college.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have had initial contact with many schools including Division 2 and 3 in many parts of the country as well as a few Division 1 schools. Most notably, it was Lehigh University and Villanova University. I am just in the initial stages considering I am class of 2021.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes, I have had invites and gone on unofficial visits to Lehigh and Villanova.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“I hope so, yes.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Yes, the Ohio State University. My Mom is from Youngstown, Ohio and my dad’s family is from Akron Ohio. Go Buckeyes.”
