Q&A with DuBois Area wide receiver Zach Shilala

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Our high school team went 0-10. Even though we went 0-10, I wouldn’t change anything about the season. The people I play with are my brothers for life and I wouldn’t trade them for a win any day.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans are to keep lifting in the weight room and grinding to be the best I can be. I’m trying to put on weight and muscle to better my performance and the team. As for sports, I will continue to play football, but I also participate in track and recently became very successful in pole vault and triple jump.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“I’m trying to improve on my speed and strength the most. Another thing I would like to improve is yards after the catch, as they aren’t as consistent as I would like them to be.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel our team will do pretty well. We are undergoing some changes with a new coach and a new league, but these changes shouldn’t hurt us. We all play as a team and we have some ballers coming up to better us as a whole.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“Brookeville in my opinion will be our toughest. We lost to them this year in a dog fight. It was score for score. Their defense at the end of the game just stepped up and did what they needed to secure the victory.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to play sports in college. For track, I would love to pole vault for Slippery Rock University. For football, I’m just playing it by ear and want to go somewhere with good academics and athletics. It would be somewhere like Grove City.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“As I am only a junior in high school, no one has been recruiting me, but my name is out there, and some have talked to my coach. There is nothing official yet.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have gone to IUP and Slippery Rock for camps, but not visits.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon
“I would like to take one to Geneva and some other smaller schools just to get started and see how it goes.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“My favorite college growing up was always Penn State and Oregon.”

Q&A with West Chester East quarterback Ryan Duell

How did the high school football season go overall?
“This year was great for me and our team. I had a lot of nerves going into this year due to the fact that it was my first year starting varsity and only my third year playing QB, but my teammates and especially the seniors along with my coaches got me ready to go. Obviously, we felt we could have gone further in the playoffs but regardless, we had one of the best seasons in school history. It was a year which we all view as a great accomplishment.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am currently playing on our basketball team along with winter workouts. I am also working with Coach Abe, my QB coach, to continue to hone my mechanics and skills. I also will be playing 7v7 with Philly’s Finest in the spring.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“I am trying to develop a mobile aspect to my game. I feel at times, I was too stationary in the pocket, which caused for negative plays. My ultimate goal is to be the most well-rounded player I can be, and I feel that working on mobility will help me achieve that goal.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe we have as good if not better a year than last year. Our senior class was so strong this past year that some of our underclassmen didn’t get a lot of action, but there are some studs in our program that people around the league and district will know very well this time next year.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“I feel our rivals, Henderson and Rustin, will be our toughest competition along with Downingtown West. Having beat Henderson twice, they will definitely be gunning for us and they have some guys on their D-line that can cause problems. Rustin and DWest are always tough games and we expect nothing less next year.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“It has always been a dream of mine to play college football and I definitely believe I can achieve that dream.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?

“I am planning to go to Syracuse Junior day, although the date is not yet finalized. That is my only Junior day/visit invite at the moment.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and have always been an Ohio State fan.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans are to get faster and get a lot stronger.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?

“I think State College because they have a pretty tough team every year.”

Kenny Yeboah to Ole Miss

Former Temple tight end Kenny Yeboah announced today he will be transferring to Ole Miss to play for Lane Kiffin. Yeboah will be using his graduate transfer waiver and will be eligible immediately. He had previously committed to Baylor, but flipped after Matt Rhule left for the NFL. Rhule recruited him to Temple. He caught 19 passes for 255 yards and five touchdowns this past season for the Owls.

Yeboah was an All State wideout for Parkland in 2015 and led the Trojans to the 4A state finals. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Q&A with Kiski Area running back Kenneth Blake

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season overall went good for the team and me personally. We lost in the first round of playoffs, but making it there was still an accomplishment. Personally, I had a very good junior season. I raced up 900 plus rushing yards on only six games playing at running back. I had a few big games where I put the team on my back to find out with the win. I had a few mistakes I need to clean up on, but once I get those, next season will be way better.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now, I’m currently playing basketball. I do plan though to start an intense workout routine very soon and I will be going to different camps throughout the off season.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“My physical build is what I will be working on the most. I have the height, but I must get stronger to play at the next level. I also need to work on my burst and cuts. I will be working on my defensive back technique a lot too.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We will be really good. We were young this year and still ended up being third in our section, so with a lot of key returning players, we should be really good.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“There are rumors that Pine-Richland could be in our section. If so, then them, but if not Gateway because they are a tough team and we will make it through the playoffs and see them.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I want to go on to play college football. Where at, I’m not too sure of but for sure at a higher level of ball. These next questions about colleges I don’t want to put out too much yet, but I am in touch with a few colleges and I will be meeting and visiting some very soon.”

Q&A with Bishop Shanahan running back Matt Coladonato

How did the high school football season go overall?
“This year was great. We won our first district title in school history but lost in the first round of the state playoffs.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I currently am running indoor track for the winter and in the spring, I will be playing lacrosse. When it comes to working out, I usually lift twice a day through the week and once on the weekend. We get out to the turf to run and do 1v1s as much as possible, but during the winter that’s hard to do.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“I am working to improve my speed the most this year.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I expect us to win another district title for our school next year, but that will be hard to do because we lost a lot of seniors, especially linemen.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“Our toughest competition next year will be Coatesville and both Downingtown schools.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I want to play either football or lacrosse in college. I really enjoy pushing myself to the limit and I want to do that at a college level for sure.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve been talking to a few colleges and it has mostly been Ursinus, Gettysburg, and Villanova. The recruitment process for me is just starting. I expect to contact and talk to more colleges as the process gets going.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“So far, Ursinus has been constantly in touch and reaching out on a weekly basis, so they are recruiting the hardest.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes, I have visited Villanova, Ursinus, and JMU unofficially.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Yes, I have plans to visit a bunch schools in the spring,”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“My favorite college growing up and even now is Villanova. My parents both went there and my sister plays field hockey there. Villanova has always been in my family.”

Q&A with Bishop McDevitt linebacker Julian Bakos

How did the high school football season go overall?
“With a young team we made some mistakes, but we figured it out and persevered as a team, along with some tough coaching we were able to turn it around to a winning season. Overall, it was a good season, however good is not good enough where better is expected.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“It is the off-season grind. Now that team strength training is in full motion, we lift as a team on M-W-F. I am at Crunch Gym 3 days a week, working on my strength and speed on my own time.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“4500 calories a day to increase my weight, as well as a vigorous individual 3-day strength training for power and agility.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“At McDevitt, there is never a shortage on talent when we lose a senior. The next player up is the one who rises to the occasion. We are going to have a fairly young team, but make no mistake about it, those underclassmen are good. The kind of good that comes with college offers. So, while we are humble, we are also focused and hungry to bring the Mid Penn Conference and District titles back to McD.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“Every team can be our toughest challenge if we fail to focus, execute, and perform as a team. No team will be taken for granted or overlooked.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have been on couple of visits and met a few coaches, however nothing official yet. As a rising senior, I'm staying focused on the game plan and trusting in our process.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes, the most recent was to South Bend, Indiana to the University of Notre Dame.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Yes, the plans are to attend some winter/spring camps in order to sharpen my skills in preparation for any summer invites.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Tough question, but my favorite college is the college that believes in me.”

My Big School (4A/6A) Team of the Decade

Been working on this for a bit, wanted to put together an All Decade team in the largest classification (4A until 2015 then 6A since). This is meant to be the best high school players of the decade, so I would say their HS output makes up 80% of the criteria here. Obviously, what guys did in college and professionally can bias how they are remembered as scholastic players, but I tried to keep perspective about their careers. In the narrative is included what guys did post-HS, mostly to inform and keep the write ups interesting. I have the narratives done on the offensive skill players, so I'm going to roll those out first. It's designed like the AP All State team, so four quarterbacks, five running backs, four receivers and I'm including two tight ends in this initial batch of players. Hope you enjoy

Georgia/St Joe's Prep running back D'Andre Swift says he'll enter NFL draft

ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. lists Swift as the No. 1 draft-eligible running back and the 16th highest-rated player overall on his Big Board.

Swift, a former top recruit from Philadelphia, played sparingly in Georgia's bowl game because of a lingering injury. He rushed for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

An adept pass-catcher, Swift caught a combined 56 passes in the past two seasons.

Georgia will be without its No. 2 running back next season as well, as Brian Herrien graduates.

Sophomore James Cook and freshman Zamir White, who both played as backups this season, return.

The Bulldogs will add to the mix four-star recruit Kendall Milton, whom ESPN ranks as the eighth-best running back in the 2020 class.

What colleges have been recruiting you?
N/A

Q&A with Central Dauphin quarterback Max Mosey

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went pretty well. We had a solid all-around team and we made it to states. It was a pretty big deal for our team but didn’t come out with the result we wanted. We lost to Saint Joseph’s Prep 35-13.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now, I’m playing basketball for my school, lifting, and trying to keep my weight up as much as possible. I’m going to keep my routine going so I can either stay at my current weight or even gain more. I’m 100% focused on basketball right now and once it’s over I’m right back with the football team in the weight room and starting to throw again.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“My whole game needs work. I’m never satisfied with myself in what I’m doing because I always feel I could do better. I would like to tighten up my mechanics and start to get comfortable with throws I usually don’t throw and be able to throw out of awkward positions. I want to become comfortable in situations that usual people won’t be comfortable with in game. I think anybody can be a good pocket passer, but you can separate yourself from others by making the 50/50 balls into 70/30 balls or be able to escape and make a play rather than settling for negative yardage.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I will always be confident about my team. They are my brothers and I wouldn’t pick anyone else over them. My mindset for next season is ultimately to get back where we were and finish it our job of winning a state championship because I believe we have the pieces to do it. But I will always take the season week by week. It is never good to overlook a part of the season for a bigger picture.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“I haven’t looked much at other teams except for players that are returning that have made a big name for themselves. I will always expect the usual teams we play to get better. I will never underestimate our opponents. We had two losses in the regular season to Wilson and Manheim Township, so maybe I will emphasize them a lot, but you never know what they might have. I can’t stress over it right now in the off-season, I have to worry about my guys and what we are doing to get right before I begin to watch other teams.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I think the majority of high school athletes want to go to the next level for their sport and I do really badly. I have played football all my life and I would be very excited to be able to play at the next level. I will always be happy if I have equipment to suit up in everyday and a team to play for. I also play basketball, which I really enjoy too, but I think my future in college athletics would better if I sided with football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you
“I’m only a sophomore so I’m not really able to be recruited right now. That is what I heard from my senior teammates that are going to play in college. I have seen some colleges at my school and in the weight room sometimes to stop in and say hi but that’s about it. I don’t know who is interested and who is not, but right now I’m just going to focus on what I’m doing at the moment which is basketball.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“I would love to start visiting some schools I could potentially have interest in.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up in Pennsylvania, I have basically been taught to root for Penn State always. I like their team a lot, but I usually don’t have teams I like. I have players I like to watch and learn from.”
