Prep-LaSalle | Round 2

Yes, there is a proposal that maybe heading to the legislature. I don't know if it's an important enough issue to most of our elected officials to look at the proposal. The issue nets to get addressed, especially in light of the ease in which the Prep won games against the public schools on their way to the last two state titles. I do know the powers to be up in District 11 have had enough. I also know many coaches in District One have also had enough. CB South said all the right things about the Prep to the reporters, but the coaches and parents weren't happy about the unfair advantages Prep has. St Joes Prep is the singular team most football folks have an issue with, but if LaSalle comes out of District 12, and wins states, then they will also be on the radar.

Prep-LaSalle | Round 2

NA and Central last year could've been state champs this year
Last year you were saying one of SJP's unfair advantages was that they didn't have off years because they have a steady stream of talented recruits, but now you're saying that in one year they've gone from a team that very easily beat NA to a team that would have lost to that same NA team--and the PCC team that NA beat in the playoffs.

Prep-LaSalle | Round 2

The Prep must think they should have won the last game by more than a TD since they had the ball deep in LaSalle territory a couple of times in the first half and, of course, failed to do the obvious thing at the end of regulation.

Getting Roy back would be great, though it would be too much to expect him to be 100%. Hardy didn't play against LaSalle because of injury last time; he's looked very good the last couple of games. Not having West--maybe the best running back in the state when healthy--is a blow. Very good chance the end of the LaSalle game would have been different if West hadn't been injured. I know Simaj Hill (db) was injured in the last rs game. Will he be back? And what about McFadden for LaSalle?

I'm hoping we're not talking too much about the refs after the game. The PI call just before the half in the Roman-LaSalle game may have been a game-changer. It seemed to be called by an official twenty yards away and looked like a really bad call. Much like the really bad call against Sacca for PI in the championship game against LaSalle two years ago.

Finally, why did LaSalle choose to have the game at Wiss? Here you have the most high-profile hs game in many years in the Philly area and they decide to have it in one of the smaller venues. My bet is that if they had it at Franklin Field they might get 10,000 people.
Not many tickets to be had at Wissahickon. Franklin Field would have been the call. I think 10,000 would be on the short end.

Prep-LaSalle | Round 2

Thoughts on this one? Any chance that Prep has a few surprises in store (perhaps an early return of Maxwell Roy)? While I may be a little biased, I still think that all roads to championship glory lead through the Prep. While La Salle has closed the gap tremendously, I think the Prep D is stronger and they still have more depth at the skill positions. Obviously, the X factor is the QB experience differential, which was on full display in Round 1. Has Foulke matured enough to limit panic/mistakes? Do Sidwar and O’Brien tip the scales back to La Salle and exploit Prep’s vulnerability to the pass? No matter the outcome, hats off to Gordon for the incredible turnaround from last year. Let’s hope for an equally exciting heavyweight bout in round 2.

Prep-LaSalle | Round 2

The first game is history. I think, as I said before, this is a totally different La Salle team than in the past. And St. Joe is.....well......St. Joe. This matchup seems to be a must for years to come. Should be a great one but in my opinion, St. Joe learned a valuable lesson.......take the points........ and should win this one.

Easton Historical Stuff

Will Day cracked the 1,000 yard barrier last night, now with 1,021 yards. They are the first pair of 1,000 yard backs since Shane Simpson and Dalvyn Reynolds in 2014. Easton has had two 1,000 yard backs four times:
Shane Simpson/Dalvyn Reynolds, 2024: 2,124/1,155
Brad Piperata/Ovid Goulbourne, 2003: 1,775/1,045
Dorian Thomas/Will Day, 2024: 1,288/1,021
Kyle Bambary/Shane Simpson, 2013: 1,196/1,109

Thomas also score his 20th touchdown last night, putting him 11th on the single season touchdowns list.
  1. Shane Simpson, 2014: 41
  2. Eric Thompson, 1993: 30
  3. Nysir Minney-Gratz, 2015: 26
  4. Nahjee Adams, 2019: 26
  5. Carl Hentzleman, 1917: 24
  6. Jeff Staton, 1988: 23
  7. Charley Weaver, 1959: 22
  8. Juan Gaddy, 1991: 22
  9. Brad Piperata, 2003: 21
  10. Ovid Goulbourne, 2003: 21
  11. Dorian Thomas, 2024: 20
  12. Ovid Goulbourne, 2004: 20
  13. Jarred Holley, 2006: 20
Day is at 19 touchdowns, and a score next week would have Thomas and Day join Brad Piperata and Ovid Goulbourne in 2003 as the only pair of teammates with 20 touchdowns. The 2003 made it all the way to the PIAA Eastern Final.

Easton is now on a 10 game winning streak, their fourth double digit win streak of the state playoff era, joining runs in 2014, 2004, 2001, and 1991. The 2004 and 1991 teams were also PIAA Eastern Finalists after 13-0 starts.

District 11 Playoffs

Easton unsurprisingly rolls Stroudsburg - up 28-0 at halftime, 42-7 final. The bigger story from the game is Cole Ordway threw for 320 yards on a season high 29 attempts. Easton came out throwing and got touchdown catches from JC Wilson and Jasir Frutchey, and Ordway also ran for a pair of touchdowns. Overall, Easton was sloppy - a boatload of penalties kept this one out of mercy rule way longer than it should - but they win their 10th game and advance to their first D11 semifinal since 2019 (where they also played Emmaus).

The highlight came turned into a laugher, with Emmaus posting their second straight shutout, this one a wildly impressive 35-0 win over Nazareth, one week after the Blue Eagles scored 55 points. They harassed Peyton Falzone into going 19-40 with an interception and just 137 yards. Meanwhile, Emmaus ran for 323 yards, including 147 from Reilly Bechtel and 88 from quarterback Jerek Cooper, who opened the game with a 40 yard TD run on the fifth play from scrimmage. Most impressively, Emmaus held Marquez Wimberly to 10 carries for 20 yards and one catch for four yards. Nazareth finishes their title defense 7-4.

Freedom shut out Northamtpon for three quarters and comfortably won 38-15. Amare DuBoise starred with a career high 117 yards on five catches.

Parkland scored late to pull away from Liberty, 27-9 in a game that was 13-9 for large chunks of it. Liberty was playing without quarterback Antonio Fontanez, who sat out after transferring back to Liberty from Allentown Central Catholic, where he played as a sophomore (he played freshman football at Liberty). Parkland will travel to Freedom next week.
