North Allegheny VS Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School (STATE CHAMPIONSHIP)

There’s plenty of tape on YouTube of both teams. I know NA is extremely fast. Sjp May not be use to the speed.
Absolutely... SJP having to play in the PCL and scheduling cupcakes like IMG puts them at a huge disadvantage this time of the year when they have to try to adjust to the speed of the game that's played at this level.

I was being sarcastic yesterday having fun. I thought you would catch on. Sorry

I think NA will need to run and stop the run. Easier said than done. You’ll need to stop the run with 7 or 8 guys. Where we got in trouble, if they catch you using 8 they’ll make you pay. I thought Harrisburg last yr was a highly athletic team. They tried to stack the box after giving up the early score and those wrs took over.
Luckily for NA the strength of their team is there d line and linebackers. They have a duel threat QB who can stretch out a play which he'll need to do. Another key for NA is clock control. They NEED to establish a run game and put together long drive and keep the ball out of preps hands and come away with points. No team other img has been able to do that.

NA top players and D1 guys:
Junior, 6-3, 290
1. Jack Yatchenko (Tackle)
While the tackles and guards get much of the fanfare, don’t overlook the guys in the middle. Yatchenko centered a North Allegheny line that won a WPIAL title last season and earned first-team all-conference honors as a sophomore in Class 6A. He’s very strong (can bench more than 400 pounds/squat lift 475), and proved his strength again in the spring by placing fourth in shot put at the WPIAL track and field championships.
2. Kyrhin Boyd (WR, DB)
Boyd contributed in many ways to North Allegheny winning a WPIAL title last season, and easily could’ve been ranked among the WPIAL’s top defensive backs after intercepting seven passes. But his offensive skills can’t be overlooked, especially after scoring twice in the WPIAL finals on catches of 68 and 51 yards. He finished the year with 42 catches for 742 yards, added 291 yards rushing and scored 12 total touchdowns (seven receiving). All-state voters
named him first team on defense. He received college offers this summer from Duquesne, Robert Morris and Howard.
3. Daniel sellers (TE,DE)
The Richmond recruit scored touchdowns on two of his nine catches a year ago, threw blocks like an offensive lineman and helped the Tigers win the WPIAL Class 6A title. His TD catches covered 16 and 35 yards. As a defensive end, he was involved in 52 tackles, including 16 in the backfield. All-conference voters named him to the second team for defense. He scored the first points in the 2022 WPIAL finals on a 15-yard fumble return. He committed to the Spiders over offers from Columbia, Dartmouth, Duquesne, Holy Cross, Maine, Penn and Yale.
4. Cameron Chmura (DL,T)
A strong, run-stuffing tackle, Chmura bolstered a defense that celebrated a WPIAL title last season. The Marshall recruit had 42 total tackles and showed an ability to pressure the quarterback with three sacks. He earned first-team all-conference honors at defensive tackle. The Tigers held six opponents to a touchdown or less. He had nearly two dozen college offers, including Air Force, Army, Central Michigan, Kent State, Ohio and UMass. He also starts at offensive tackle for the Tigers
5. Tyreé Alualu (RB,LB)
Alualu already is a two-time all-conference inside linebacker for the Tigers, who won a WPIAL Class 6A title last year. He contributed to the championship season with 61 tackles, including 11 for a loss, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The NA defense held opponents to 13 points per game. He’s received college offers from more than a dozen schools including Oregon, San Diego State, Navy, Temple and Cincinnati, among others. He is the son of former Steelers defensive lineman Tyson Alualu.

wow- i thought NA looked strong- but- uh, now seeing that ZERO guys from SJP prep go both ways? I count 6 guys as two-way for NA. uh, sorry to tiger- but i do not this being a close game. I would guess, though, Walker might have a plan to have a few guys play more one-way- like Sellers and Alulalu- but that still leaves maybe 4 guys going both ways, that's still a lot

So this might not be perfect, and SJP guys can correct me wherever but this is what I came up with. They don't have a listed depth chart anywhere, so I used some articles to put together the offense (particuarly where offensive linemen play) and then the stats on EasternPAFootball, where I took their leading tacklers and plugged them into their positions on defense, so that might not be totally accurate. But here's the lineup I've got:

QB: Samaj Jones (Sr. 6’1 210; Cincinnati)
RB: Isaiah West (Jr. 6’0 215; Wisconsin/Kentucky offer)
RB: Kahseim Phillips (Sr. 5’9 190; Towson)
RB: Erik Sanchez (Sr. 5’11 190; Temple offer)
WR: David Washington (Sr. 6’0 185; Kentucky)
WR: Brandon Rehmann (Sr. 6’0 185; West Virginia)
WR: Elijah Jones (Sr. 5’11 190; Cincinnati)
TE: Denzel Felder (Sr. 6’2 230)
LT: Kevin Towns (Sr. 6’4 290; Fordham offer)
LG: John Paul Schrieber (Sr. 6’3 280)
C: Lakeem Steele (Sr. 6’2 300; Merrimack)
RG: Christian Leonard (Jr. 6’5 310; Kentucky, Syracuse, UConn interest)
RT: Shane Toolan (Sr. 6’4 250; Temple offer)
::::::
LT: Khalil Stewart (Jr. 6’5 310; Penn State, Maryland, Kentucky offers). --> they moved Schrieber from tackle to guard, Toolan from tight end to tackle, and plugged in Felder at tight end to. account for no Stewart.

DE: Alex Haskell (So. 6’4 240; Penn State/West Virginia offers)
DT: Maxwell Roy (Jr. 6’4 270; Georgia/Michigan offers)
DT: Ivan Bailey-Greene (Sr. 5’10 250)
DE: Sean McNulty (Sr. 6’2 225)
LB: Cameron Smith (Jr. 6’1 195; Penn State/Michigan/Rutgers offers)
LB: Anthony Sacca (Jr. 6’4 220; Georgia/Ohio State/Penn State offers)
LB: Nick McGlynn (Sr. 6’2 225; Army)
DB: Omillio Agaard (Sr. 5’11 160; Wisconsin)
DB: Shamir Johnson (Sr. 6’0 170; Maryland offer)
DB: Ryan McDonald (Jr. 6’0 180)
DB: Brandon Lockley (Fr. 6'1 210)
20 D1 players, no one goes both ways….. If NA does the unthinkable, it is probably the biggest upset in the history of the tournament

tiger- you gotta realize- this info is including "publicly posted" offers. Some kids do not publicize their offers. And, some kids will play, that get offers later, may be more than 20

and uh- omg- "power 5" recruit kids?? Some "normal" PA HSs, may produce 2 or 3, over a 10 year span? This is one team, with 13 offers (so far), in one year? that is unbelievable

This may be the most talented team in Piaa history, maybe more talented than 2020 SJP

Hard to say, it’s a toss up. This group is more explosive I know that. Watching the img game again I might take this lb group. #10 plays with anger. Old school thumper.
Jones is a different qb than McCord. Most notable are the legs. Making you account for an additional runner like NA.

This year's team has more talent. Especially on the offensive and defensive line. Next year's team might be just as good if not better with what they have returning. Scary

Did the elder Trotter play his senior year? For some reason I thought he missed most of it.

Also - how does the 2016 PCC team rank up there with individual talent? I know they didn't win it but didn't they have an enormous amount of individual talent? Hamlin, Garner, Thorpe, Hinish bros, etc?

They were really talented, The problem was the QB play just wasn’t near the level of these two SJP teams. That team getting mercy ruled in the final was very shocking

on paper this is the most talented PA team ever

they could beat D3 schools

Mt Lebanon was so lucky to get these kids when they were freshman and sophomores

Here’s a great question: Who would win, 2023 SJP or every wpial team in history put together?

sammy- great question
I have tried to 2 platoon ever since I was a head coach. I was talking to the ex head coach of Massolin OH years ago and he told me that the key to success is two platooning. Now if you are at say some 1A school like Carmichaels you cant but if you have 50+kids on your roster you can.

I don't know what PCC team this was - it was around 2015-2017 but on that roster they had -

Petrishen - DB - PSU
McCallister - OL - Army
Glover - LB - E. Mich
Tindall - DB - ND College
Hamlin - DB - PITT
Wheeler - DL - PITT
Hawthorne - LB - Georgetown
George - LB - W. Michigan
Garner - DB - PITT
Jones - RB - Toledo
Hinish - OL/DL - ND
Thorpe - OL/DL - PSU
Adams - LB - ND
Terry - LB - Buffalo
Fisher - QB - Lafayette

SJP has played guys both ways at times in the past. I remember seeing Runyan's boy playing both ways at Hershey.

If you can 2 platoon it's a great thing. Many schools don't have the staff to practice that way. NA obviously could/can.

tiger- you gotta show more respect, with these "best ever" questions- the WPIAL has been around for 100 years, just cannot answer these "best ever" questions
My comment was a joke. Could you imagine 100s of thousands of kids on one team? Logistics nightmare

steel- I think 2016 was the most "talented" team from PCC in recent years
nope sorry- correct that Hamlin graduated in 2016- so I think it was 2015 PCC- had, now I think 5 guys in the NFL- post gazette used to have old rosters, but the bastards took down that info from their site

My comment was a joke. Could you imagine 100s of thousands of kids on one team? Logistics nightmare
gotcha- but sometimes folks compare "best ever teams" from like 1990 and 2023, or even like 1950 to 2020- just cannot do that imo. My point is- some of the best WPIAL teams of all time- might be the best ever in the country. And- the "talent" part of teams like SJP- a great "team" still is better than most "all star" teams, imo this is true in most sports

My god, SJP people, please don’t turn into LaSalle fans and just non-stop complain about officiating. I know most of the LaSalle folk are gone from around here, but dating back to 2009, I’ve never seen a group of fans more consistently act like there is a grand conspiracy against them at all times. I thought it was contained to just one school, let’s not make it the whole league.
Rover, I’m still here from 2009 and I don’t remember calling out the officials. We won games outright.

if we're talking just pure talent and not necessarily "players". You'd be hard pressed to see more talent then some of the Glen Mills teams back in the day. They seriously looked like grown men. Hell, they might have been. The sheer size and speed combined with that aggression was a sight to see.

Agreed Steel. Glen Mills was a court adjudicated school (recently closed) that got serious talent from all over. It was an unusual field (Pitt) that was set down below street level. And it was the best experience I ever had at any games in terms of making you feel like a guest. Strange even but just very courteous students.
That was quite a few years ago seeing St. Ignatius, Berwick (when awesome) and some Mid-Penn teams, Cedar Cliff and others. Great comp and wow, could they play. Problem was getting all that talent on the same page resulting in extreme penalties, shooting themselves in the foot as a result, constantly it seemed. There were a gang of us from Ridley Twp that went to their games (1/2 hr drive) depending on the opponent.
The locals hated them being in the Del-Val with some justification I guess having the advantages any private school has.
