Q&A with South Fayette quarterback Naman Alemada

How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“Football has been going really well. This is my first year starting and I’m really excited for it.”

Who is your next opponent? What are your thoughts on them overall?
“We play New Castle in week 2. They’re a good team and have one of the best athletes in the WPIAL in Demetrius McKnight. It will be a fun to play against a team we have a lot of recent history with.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Defensively, we’re a strong team. I don’t see many teams who can move the ball against us. Same on offense. We have some great receivers in Rossi and Audia, one of the best LT in the state in Dom Thomas, and a consistent runner in Drew Franklin. One area I need to improve on is finishing the drive. I struggled with that against USC and had too many turnovers.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“One important factor for us this year on the offensive side of the ball is going to be pace. We’re a no huddle up tempo team that wants to score fast and wear down our opponent. If we can score fast, it makes everyone’s job easier when we can play with a lead.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
“The first goal for me is to help my team win another WPIAL championship. After the success we had last year and the talent that returned, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to accomplish this goal. After Wips, I want to win a state championship. In terms of stats, I don’t really have a goal; it doesn’t seem important. As long as my INTS are low and we’re winning I’ll be satisfied.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Playing college football was always a dream of mine that started to come true a little bit this summer. After going to a few camps such as Slippery Rock and W&J, I realized that playing college ball could be a reality for me. I don’t know where I want to play yet, but I’m willing to play anywhere that gives me a chance.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I haven’t been heavily recruited yet. I have gotten invites to different camps throughout the summer.”

Have you made any college trips yet
“I haven’t made any college visits yet.”

Do you have plans for game day trips this fall?
“I haven’t made any game day trip preparations yet.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I would say my favorite team is probably Penn State just from growing up in Pennsylvania.”

Q&A with West Shamokin athlete Bo Swartz

How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“This season has been going pretty well. We lost a tough game, but we are looking to bounce back.”

Who is your next opponent? What are your thoughts on them overall?
“We play Northern Cambria. I haven’t watched much film on them yet, but they are a tough team.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Our team can keep improving on many things, but mainly not beating ourselves in close games.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“The keys for our team to be successful are to work as one and not beat ourselves in games.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
“My goals for the rest of the season is to continue to play well and go to playoffs.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I want to play sports in college, but I am not 100% sure on which sport to play.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve talked to a couple of schools, but I want to keep that private for now.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I went to IUP and Point Park this summer for basketball.”

Do you have plans for game day trips this fall?
“No, I do not yet.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Pitt is probably my favorite.”

Q&A with Selinsgrove Area wrestler Coy Bastian

What did you do sporting wise this summer?
“This summer, I wrestled 4 days a week, lifted 6 days a week, and went to wrestling camps.”

What are you trying to improve on the most this fall?
“This fall, I want to improve on my wrestling by practicing and going to as many tournaments as possible. I also want to improve my mindset and work to reaching my goals.”

Why did you decide to not play football this season?
“I decided not to play football this year because I have a few colleges recruiting me, and I don’t want to risk getting a devastating injury.”

How tough was that decision for you?
“As much as I love football, it was easily the toughest decision in my life. I miss football, but I know I made the best decision for myself.”

How do you feel your wrestling team will do this winter?
“I think our wrestling team could compete for another district title this year and wrestle as a team in the state tournament.”

What are your goals for the wrestling season?
“This season, my goals are to go undefeated, win states, and pass the 100-win mark.”

Do you want to wrestle in college?
“I want to wrestle at the Division I level.”

What schools have been recruiting you as of late?
“So far, I have been recruited by Brown, West Point, Bucknell, and Virginia Military Institute. I have talked to the coaches from Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Wyoming, and Virginia as well.”

Have you made any college visits?
“I have not made any official college visits yet, but this fall I plan on taking a visit to West Point, Bucknell, and any of the other schools that would like to have me up. I have been on Brown’s campus for a recruiting camp before.”

Did you have a favorite school growing up?
“Growing up, my favorite school was always Penn State. I love the sporting teams and campus that Penn State has.”

Q&A with Central Valley defensive end Sean FitzSimmons

How has everything been going with the football season so far?
“High energy. I’ve worked extremely hard on my hand speed as well as my foot speed and feel like I’ve made some great gains.”

What are your goals for the season?
“To be a major force on defense and offense, which will ultimately help my team win games. I feel like if I can contribute at a very high level, the accolades and stats will follow.”

What areas do you feel your team needs to improve on?
“We have talent at all positions and are really well balanced. But like any other team, we just need to work together and get continuity in the schemes we’re running.”

Who do you feel is the toughest individual player you will play against this season?
“I don’t know specific names, but I expect the linemen from Thomas Jefferson and Aliquippa to be very competitive. I’m looking forward to competing with them.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I was invited up to spring practices at Penn State and Pitt. Pitt and IUP visited me at school and I have been receiving tons of emails from various schools.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“N/A.”

What camps did you do this summer and how did they go?
“It was a great spring. My brother Reed and I were everywhere: Pitt, Penn State, WVU, IUP, Slippery Rock, and Clarion. We had a blast competing and meeting other coaches and players.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up, Notre Dame has always been one of my favorite schools.”

Q&A with Easton Area running back Nahjee Adams

How has everything been going football wise so far for the season?
“So far, everything has been good personally and as a whole for my team.”

What are the keys for your team having success this season?
“For my team to be successful, we have to stay focused & humbled at all times. We have to execute what our coaches are teaching us and stay disciplined.”

Who is your next opponent and what do you know about them?
“We play Whitehall for our home opener. Whitehall seems to be a slept-on team in the Valley, but I know they will be hungry and will give us all they’ve got. They will compete until the end.”

Who is the toughest opponent this season on your schedule?
“The toughest opponent on our schedule will probably be Freedom.”

What are your goals for this season?
“This season, my goals are to rush for 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. I’m not going to focus too hard on the statistics, I just want to play ball and ball out.”

What sport do you want to play in college?
“At the next level, I would love to play playing football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“As of right now, the recruiting process hasn’t started for me. In the near future, I hope to hear from some coaches.”

Have any colleges offered you?
“I have no college offers as of right now.”

What colleges are you trying to visit this fall?
“This fall, I would love to visit any Power 5 collegiate program, but any opportunity will be accepted upon my part.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up
“Growing up, I had my mind set on Oregon University.”

Prep/Marietta

The major college talent on the field for this game is crazy. Prep D looks fast and physical. Both lines playing very very well. If Prep can have success like this running the ball to go along with the passing attack we all think they will have, it will be tough for any Pa team to beat them this year. Kolbe Burrell might be the most underrated player in Pa this year. Love his running style. If he was at least 5'10, I think every major college would be after him. Great throw and even better catch for the Prep td in 2nd quarter. This has been a very very physical game. Both QBs have taken some big time(clean) hits after the have released the ball. Also kind of sloppy with the amount of flags thrown but it's to be expected in the first game of the year. 7-7 at half with Marietta set to receive the ball to start 3rd quarter. Should be a great 2nd half

Prep may also be the victim of a little "home cooking" reffing too. 2 questionable non fumble calls. A blatant PI non call. And a weird "he wasn't out of bounds so the clock keeps running" call at the end of the half
