Q&A with Bethlehem Catholic offensive tackle Justin Kanyuk

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Overall, the high school football season went well, but obviously we did not do what we wanted as a team. Our main goal during any season is to win the state championship game. This season we had some good accomplishments., but unfortunately, we came up short in the district playoffs. As a team, I know we could have won that game if we came together, but the last couple games of the season we weren’t playing as ourselves.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Right now, my biggest plans during the off-season are to enhance my skills for the next season. Hitting the weight room is one of the biggest parts in this process. I’ve been lifting everyday getting stronger and getting more power for the season. I also am working on my speed and quickness during this off-season.”

What are you trying to improve on the most as a player?
“As a player, I am trying to improve my game overall. I just want to be the best I can be and live out my dreams of playing football D1. In order to do this, I must become stronger and faster, but most importantly, mentally tougher. In order to succeed in this game, I believe you must be as mentally tough as possible.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel that our team will come back stronger this season then the last. We will be going for the EPC championship, district championship, and push towards winning the whole thing. The ultimate goal every year is the state chip. We have been making great strides in the weight room and on the field. We are working as hard or harder than any other team in the league right now. Our team is coming back to make another memorable season for the Bethlehem Catholic Hawks football history.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule next season?
“We will be taking no team lightly. We will play to our full potential every game, no matter what team we are playing. There are some teams that I feel we need to play at our top game against. Easton has many threats on offense that we need to worry about, but if we can contain them and we play our best we will win. We will never look down on Parkland because they will always have a good team every year and they are coached very well. Very little times you will ever see Parkland make mistakes. I also believe Central will be good next year. They will play to their full potential because of the rivalry game, but we want our revenge from last year.”
