high level phila area talent continue to leave Pa./why ??

I know this has been discussed from time to time . Im sure there are many varied reasons ,but I was curious why Penn State has not focused here with any great interest for a few years. John Reid,Ryan Bates and Shaka Toney are the only Philly guys on the roster recently , while my recent recollection is two going to Clemson[ incl this years commit], Barmore from Neuman /Gorreti to Alabama ,Swift, Webb and this year Juedy from Northeast to Georgia ,tight end from Wood to Florida and two from the Prep this year to Ohio State. Did they change their area recruiter ?? This of course are just samples from around here while there are numerous others around the state that also choose to play elsewhere. It appears to me that PSU is not as aggressive here in lieu of going to other areas such as Michigan and Florida. Maryland and Virginia were always hotbeds for the Lions. Since the high school season is still on hold I wanted to talk about something that may be of interest to psu followers. Any thoughts ??

Memorial Day: Four Brothers

I do this every couple years to honor the memory of four brother vets, classmates and friends from Gettysburg who paid the ultimate price.

John Holoka, Marine CPL, L Co, 3rd BN, 5th Marines, Rifleman. John died 22 Jul 66 in Quang Tri Province, KIA Operation Hastings forcing the NVA back across DMZ. John volunteered for a mission with 2 weeks to go wanting to be with his brothers in Lima Co. Died of wounds while medevacking out. An upperclassman I idolized. Took time to help us young ones along on the field where he stood out. John was an all-around good guy.
https://app.nimia.com/video/187355/marines-talk-about-operation-hastings-and-prarie-i
Larry Brent, Army SP4, A Battery, 6th BN, 77th Artillery, Field Artillery-infantry support. Larry died 16 Jan 68, Hau Nghia Province, Non-Hostile fire. Always felt sorry for Larry who battled with his mixed ethnicity but tolerated my lusting after his sister. We had some laughs.
Robert Kessel, Marines LCPL, D Co, 1st BN, 4th Marines, Machine Gunner-Heavy, died 20 Jan 67, Quang Tri Province, KIA, mortar attack. Tough MOS for a little guy like Bobby humping 70 lbs through the bush, but he had a big heart and was fearless.
Richard Sietz, Navy PO3, USS Forrestal, TF 7, 7th Fleet, Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class, Rich died 29 Jul 67, Gulf of Tonkin in the fire that killed 134 sailors aboard the Forrestal. Like John, Rich was strong as a bull, a typical quiet guy from rural America.

Q&A with Seneca Valley linebacker Ethan West

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“I’ve been having to get pretty creative with my workouts at home due to these crazy times. I have been using tires, logs, cinder blocks, water jugs and any stuff I can get my hands on. I’ve been able to get a lot of great work in and am continuing to get bigger, faster, and stronger. I’ve put on about 15 pounds since last season as I’m now weighing in at about 220 pounds.”

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“I feel like so far, I’ve gotten a lot stronger and Improved my physique a lot. I’ve put on a lot more weight but feel like I move even better than last season. I’m going to continue that progression even more as we approach the season.”

How has Covid-19 factored into your workouts?
“Covid-19 has factored into my workouts a lot because I’ve had to pretty much completely alter my style of working out. I was going from a typical weight room type setting to now using any type of unorthodox items I can get my hands on. Even with that said, I feel like these last few weeks have been super productive for me.”

How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“I have very confident ambitions about our upcoming season. I believe we have all the pieces to bring a WPIAL title and even hopefully a state title back to Seneca Valley.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think Central and NA will be the teams that will challenge us the most this season. We always have those games circled on our schedule and they are always hard-nosed football games.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against this fall?
“I’d say Eddie Tillman. He’s a quick shifty guy and can be a big problem for defenses. I look forward to playing him and Central this upcoming year.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I am looking to play football in college 100%.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve been in contact with a handful of colleges and have 4 offers currently from Army, Richmond, Duquesne, and New Hampshire.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I’d say any of the schools that have offered me so far.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Prior to Covid-19, I had a chance to make a few visits including Buffalo, UPenn, Lehigh, and Kent State.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Hopefully this pandemic will end sooner rather than later so I can make some more visits, but as of now, I don’t have a set schedule for future visits.”

“If Covid-19 ends, then yes, I plan to attend some camps. I usually go to the Pitt camp and a few more.”

What are you trying to improve on before the football season begins?
“Speed and quickness. I’m not slow, but it’s just a place I’d like to improve on more.”

How has Covid-19 factored into your workouts?
“Not being able to lift as heavy is a slight setback, but I’m still making the best of my situation and getting better every day. Also, not seeing the team as much hurts because we build chemistry early, so it’s very hard not to be able to see them and see what we can and cannot do.”

How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“The ultimate goal is to win states, but we have to take it week by week and continue to get better every day during that time.”

“Our toughest competition is going to be ourselves and overcoming the challenges we have as a team, but once we do that, we will dominate.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Football.”

“New Hampshire, Long Island, Saint Francis, Notre Dame of Ohio.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?

Most Memorable PCL Playoff Games

Ted Siilary listed 50 "most memorable PCL Playoff Games": http://www.tedsilary.com/CLbestplayoffs2009-20.htm

It lists basketball and baseball games as well as football ones. One obvious omission was the LaSalle victory over SJP in the 2009 football final at Northeast--a great game. Ted includes all four other close wins by LaSalle over SJP between 2006 and 2015, but he doesn't include one single win by SJP over LaSalle--or anyone else. I get it that nearly all the Prep wins were by medium to large margins, but the 2013 victory was a very good game that should have been included. If I'm not mistaken, it was one of the first games where Swift showed something very special. It was also the game where Chris Martin helped seal the deal by throwing a block (on a wide run by Swift?) that knocked him out of the city championship the following week.

A little off topic, the MLB draft

Sitting here watching the MLB network replay game 6 of the 1980 World Series when the Phils won their first championship.

On the ticker below I noticed two PA kids are projected to go in the top 14 picks. First is OF Austin Hendrick from West Allegheny and the second is RHP Nick Bitsko from Central Bucks East. Anyone have some insight on these two prospects? Good to see PA represented.
