Luck had nothing to do with it. We wouldn't be talking about a lucky La Salle win if the St. Joe coach kicked the field goal at the end of regulation. Game over. Let's call it what it was. Stupid. Dr. Phil would surely ask "Coach, what were you thinkin"!! (OK the result of the play was lucky)
No argument that having Foulke roll out was a very dumb call. I could see a run to the left (to make the field goal attempt more straight on) and then a timeout before a field goal attempt, but too much could go wrong with the call that was made--and the worst thing happened.

LaSalle did get lucky at the end. Credit to O'Brien for improvising and to the guy who caught the pass, but the tipped pass could have just as easily wound up on the ground or in the hands of a defender.

One thought I've had since the end of the game is that while there's been lots of easily-justified criticism of SJP's (Roken's?) decision at the end of the fourth quarter, no one has noted that Gordon's playcall when the game was absolutely on the line turned out well only because LaSalle got very lucky. Sidwar was not open, O'Brien was about to get tackled at about the three, and the pass that won it got tipped in just the right direction. That's football, but I suspect many would be scratching their heads over Gordon's call if it weren't for Lady Luck.

Now I'm sure someone may come on here and say it wasn't all luck, so how about we say it was 80% luck?
Of course, that’s why I don’t get too caught up with that. It’s easy to play Sunday morning qb. Had they scored it wouldn’t have mattered.

I will say this. The call I think they got wrong was the PI against Harrison. After watching it again that was terrible.

The irony is that the SJP TE, who was the target of that naked boot pass, was wide open. He slipped past the LS LBs as designed. If the backside defenders bite on the play fake... but they didn't. Regardless of the outcome of that play, I think most on this board and elsewhere would still be asking why??

Was definitely luck. They needed man to man defense and when they noticed it was zone it was too late. LaSalle was out of time outs. So Sidwar ran out to a corner sitting waiting for him. If the corner runs with O’Brien when he goes in motion it should be wide open.

The rest is back yard football. Word is Sidwar wanted to run it. O’Brien didn’t. Gordon went with it. Now the play is a part of LaSalle history.

But definitely lucky 🍀

Sidwar did well given everything had to go through him. I think his immediate throws was their running game. Ortez did well catching the ball out the backfield all night. Game 2 will be good. Hopefully, some of the injured guys will return. Mcfadden from Lasalle and Hardy from SJP. Roy is due back at some point in the playoffs, but I am not sure when. West has been banged up all season.

PIAA District 1 - Halfway Point

1. CB South - Good wins over CB West & NP. Should finish 10-0 or 9-1.
2. Downingtown West - Good wins over PV and Rustin. Two tough ones remaining.
3. North Penn - Still have to beat CB West to remain at 1 loss.
4. Perkiomen Valley - Unknown 10/25 game will impact seed.
5. CB West - Could win out and finish 8-2.
6. Haverford - Nice win over Springfield. A win over Ridley has them 9-1 with only loss to GV.
7. Owen J Roberts - Unknown 10/25 game will impact seed.
8. Neshaminy - Could finish as high as 8-2 or low as 5-5, but most likely 7-3.
9. Ridley - Still not sure they can beat a playoff team.
10. Plymouth-Whitemarsh - Close versus Wissy? Still think they're a top 5 team.
11. Pennridge - Smashed in their three losses. Could lose out.
12. Souderton - Jekyll and Hyde, but could win out.
13. Coatesville - Two tough ones remaining. Will make noise in playoffs.
14. Downingtown East - Highest ranked 5-5 squad? Loses to NP, TRN, Rustin, and possibly Cville and DWest could help.
15. Spring-ford - Need to win 2 of last 3 to have a chance.
16. Pennsbury - Need to win 2 of last 3 to have a chance. Two tough ones remaining.
17. Quakertown - Should win out to 6-4.
18. CB East - Need to win 2 of last 3 to have a chance. Two tough ones remaining.
19. Council Rock South - Need to win 2 of last 3 to have a chance.
20. William Tennent - Going to be tough to win 2 of 3.

Dropped out:
23. Upper Darby - Not sure they can beat a playoff team.

The QB play was closer than I expected, though I agree Sidwar came out on top. Foulke made several good throws, including in overtime. He did fine for his fifth varsity start, though the first and third interceptions were very poor decisions. He needs to do better when pressured, i.e. not panic. Sidwar made some great passes, but SJP defenders could / should have intercepted a couple more.

I disagree with the qb’s being even. Sidwar didn’t have any run game to help him. I bet LaSalle rushed for less than 20 yards. He was their only chance to compete in the game.

No idea on West.

TJ, did Joey O reach out to you yet? I know he intends to.
Do you know anything about West's injury?

Of course the view of the game would be very different if the Prep had kicked the field goal. I assume the QB roll out would not have been called if West had been available. We'd also probably be saying that the QBs were--unexpectedly--pretty much even on the night.

Week 7 Scores

I was surprised by the score, really thought this was a close game on paper. I was at the game, and thought that Neshaminy really out-coached Pennridge. PR was much smaller up front than I realized. To your point, at 5-2 are the Skins a team that’s poised for a playoff run or pretenders? Good chance now that they finish 7-3, if they can maintain this level of play. The QB is the real deal and again made some special throws. The out route in the third quarter that turned into a TD he threw right on the money well before the break.
Loved watching every second of this dismantling of the paper tiger on the ridge. PR won’t win another game now. Skins still live in October is a strange feeling - these kids are fighting. 38-3 and could’ve been more.

Final - 4 OTs: La Salle 35 - St. Joe's 34

It was a naked boot off a play action fake. So you’re depending on the DE / OLB to be fooled by the fake… there’s no one there to block. My only guess is they did see something on film that they weren’t disciplined on the backside. On that play, they were The kicker / holder / LS converted multiple FGs and XPs in OT. I’m waiting to see if he explains in an interview somewhere.
Doubt if an explanation is coming. That decision blew the game. Kick it on 3rd in case of a fumbled snap you get another shot. They’re kicking (no pun ) themselves today for that decision.

Was the kicker or holder injured? Otherwise I guess they saw something on film. But you gotta block!

Oh ,and I believe I was the only one taking LaSalle . Yes I was the proverbial squirrel finding the nut.
Bone-headed call to roll out the sophomore QB towards the near sideline. I could see a straight run if they had a timeout left--and I think they did. And of course it would have made sense just to go for the game-winning field goal with a good kicker.

Not sure the call for LaSalle's two-point conversion was a good one but the tipped pass just went in the right direction for LaSalle.

Odd that no one on the broadcast noted that West didn't play after some point in the second quarter and Billups was out for the last couple of overtime periods.

Rematch will be very interesting. Foulkes has potential but the three interceptions showed his inexperience.

Gordan outcoached Roken for sure this time around. West must have gotten hurt, but his replacement was solid. Obrien was a difference maker for lasalle. Great contest ,rematch should be just as exciting.
