Roman

I watched the SJP-Roman game last night and wondered what has happened to Roman since those early very impressive wins. I've never seen so many motion penalties at any level, and both the offense and defense seemed disorganized. The same team that demolished St. John's (DC) and beat Malvern? I also noticed they had very few fans in the stands--why?
Something is off. Not exactly sure what’s going on. Tried to get a sense last night. Definitely needs to fix the penalty issues going into state playoffs. With Imhotep moving up, anything less than a final appearance is a failure. District 1 5a will be tough out whoever emerges.

Week 9 Scores

This looks to be a really intriguing 5A tournament, with some great rematches down the road.
This game could be an indication of a district final if both teams end up 1 and 2 and winning playoff games. We had a similar situation in 2010 playing Springfield in the 2nd round of the playoffs. I didn't calculate the points scenario for this game, but I wouldn't be surprise if it's close. I haven't seen any other games outside the Central league so who knows, both teams could be eliminated in the playoffs.
Anyway, good luck to all the teams this week and injury free football.

Wpial 6a 2024

That was an Art walker Jr masterclass yesterday against pine. I believe NA will win wpial again
Eh, I didn’t think that was anything special by NA. PR has been handing games away on a silver platter in the manner you saw last night all season. NA is the team that finally was able to take full advantage of it. Also it was most definitely sealed when Strader got hurt late in the 4th and pr needed a drive.

PR is good this year but I think they are the fourth best 5A team at most, likely even less and looking like one and done in the playoffs if Strader has to miss extended time. The PCC win has really overrated them by media/talking heads, imo they’ve regressed to the mean somewhat with discipline issues and sloppy execution throughout. They’ve put two horrible comebacks by NH and PH against them on tape, games they likely should’ve lost. I believe PR is a year away from really being a dominant team, they only have like ten seniors, very jr heavy with some soph sprinkled in.

Week 9 Scores

Clemens ran for 165 and had another 40+ receiving plus his D and game winning FG. The final drive, with 1:33 on the clock and no timeouts, was the best I’ve ever seen West execute the two minute offense. I think all the yardage on that drive except maybe a two yard catch by the TE for a first down was by Clemens. Dick Beck called him one of the best players in the state after the game.

Getting speedster Devin McGowan healthy and back involved in the offense was huge. 4 carries for 60 yards and a long KO return. A huge hit on the North Penn QB to keep him out of the end zone by one of West’s undersized DBs in the 4th quarter was a big turning point in the game. They scored on the next play but he didn’t return for NP’s final two drives which were both three and out. West defense held them to under 150 total yards.

McGowan looked healthy for the first time all year (he’s played on and off) and West also got back Chris Hutchinson, Vance Morelli and Jake Ambuster. Starting guards were still out, but without them West has still run for around 700 yards the last two weeks. If they can continue to get healthier they’re a tough out in Districts.
Clemens is one of the best in the state for sure. He is so damn tough and has that it factor . Very talented .

LV Game of the Week: #9 Easton and #5 Freedom

Will Day finished with 70 rushing yards on 13 carries, an 84 yard kick return at a massive turning point in the game, and two interceptions. I don’t have his tackle numbers, but it felt like a lot. Tremendous all around game from your best player in a big moment, all you can ask.

Dorian Thomas carries 23 times for 96 yards and three touchdowns. Overcame an early fumble for a really nice night. And getting Thomas so many carries keeps Day fresh for the number of snaps he plays both ways.

Cole Ordway was 7-13 for 72 yards and ran for 70 yards and a touchdown. He’s not a kid who is doing to go play big time football, but he’s blossomed into a really nice high school quarterback. Tough, smart, under control. If he can find a little more touch on the deep ball in the playoffs, look out.

The penalties are a problem, I think they committed ten last night! But most are penalties if aggression - a pass interference in the end zone, a couple holds, running into the kicker, 5 yard facemask - it’s not the plethora of false starts, substitution penalties, etc. that have plagued Easton in recent years. Still, free yards against good teams is a problem.

Underrated play of the night is the Sean McPeek interception in the end zone. Freedom had a pretty easy drive right down to the 10 yard line after the Easton fumble. McPeek was in perfect position covering a fade route, turned his head at the last second and the ball was right there - I can’t believe he actually caught it given how little reaction time he had after finding the ball. He’s only a sophomore, but had played exceptionally well in the back half of the year.

Aaron Beete has 74 yards in the first half, only 24 on 10 carries the second half. And most of those came on the opening drive of the half. The defense changed the game following the short punt (speaking of disasters) and score by Freedom.
Great players play great in big games.

Sideline penalty on Easton, so that’ll do it!!!

Kurtis Crossman on the hit that forced the pick. So he had the huge block on the 4th down and the play to win the game. Kid is having a great year, and really happy for him to shine in a big spot.

Rovers win 25-21 after trailing 21-12. A win next week against Nazareth will clinch Easton their first conference championship since 2014.
