Should be a great opener, I'll be there. Skins seem like the solid favorite in this one.

Still like North Penn skills over Neshaminy. How things shake out up front in the trenches is most likely the difference.

I also like Nesh in this tilt. Both lost their lines to graduation and are unproven to date. The Skins have a proven qb and some strong skills that will match up easily with NP. The new qb for NP will be the key to keeping it close or making it a long Knight.

Neshaminy’s QB, junior Brody McAndrw, is the real deal. And he’s got three great receivers in seniors Zack Canimore, Cory Joyce and Oleh Manzyk. That group will cause fits for defenders (and they’ve got some other hands as well).

Who will be the prime running back is not yet clear as the Hebron brothers are running track and Henry Hill is over at Bensalem now; however, there are probably three guys who are available and one of them will step up, I’m sure.

The Defense is good at CBs and deep men and Manzyk and the LBs should be good. Along the line they have a couple of the four so they should be in good shape.

The offensive line will see a bunch of new faces so there’s the rub.

NP 28 Nesh 20

Nesh also lost LB Majors to Egan. NP should over power nesh in trenches. Look for Henley to have a big game. Soph James will be the Nesh RB 5'6 150 bright future.

CRS had trouble with 0-20 tennent and 3A Egan easily controlled 6A CRS in tri scrimmage. Nesh will walk through national.

Hero - Isn't Henley at Delaware?

I like NP late. Last time there at Nesh after a horrendous 3 quarters of football, little scrappy qb made some big plays and scored late td i believe to win it. Great def stop by NP previous possession to allow them to pull it out. I see same here , even though NP has struggled early in season as of late. Think def is a little better than last year and will keep em in the game.

Been a bit there Cover - Yep 2014. Bevan was QB's name, gamer he was, tough kid... Nesh had Jones at the helm, ugly ass game. Jones was young but as the years went by he became a very good QB. Disagree though as Nesh gonna bring it with that QB, he is tight and NP D has been suspect. Both the lines are green, toss up there.

Ha, dating myself. I'm still going Np by one, missed or blocked extra point the difference soup....

Fletch -

It appears Majors was there on the field at the start of summer camp (so that move to Egan is extremely recent). He'll be missed; however, they have a good number of bodies at the "skill" positions and I'm throwing LBs in that category (they'll be OK).

And then sophomore Chris James does look like one of the serious candidates (if not the candidate) for the RB slot and I have heard nothing but good about him (he was on the varsity last year and had carries while they say he's very solid, very confident and very ready).

The lines may be the difference in this one - we'll see.

I have seen video of Manzyk at running back. Last year he was used as a short yardage specialist in the backfield and as a third and long reciever at TE, but was mostly rested on offense.
McAndrew is the real deal and Joyce, Manzyk and Canmore are going to be a handful. It will depend on the lines of course.

I believe the Np kid, julian white stuffed him on the goal line in ot to seal the win for NP, but he is a very good football player.

Extra points! It never fails that when playing in a tough game against a solid club they’re just as important as the six points of a touchdown.

And being on the wrong side of a one point haircut is never fun; however, somebody once said if you’re gonna lose, lose the first one.

Good game and I think that as usual both Neshaminy and North Penn will each be making some noise this year.

The NP kid did stuff him on that last play and not slighting him at all, but he had help. There were two unblocked NP guys to meet Manzyk at the one. Would have liked to have seen something a little less predictable in that situation.

Probably one of the better NP vs Neshaminy games I've seen. It's usually a lopsided game one way or the other. I guess they had a close one Jones' junior year?

Chasing points probably cost nesh the game, their march down field in 50 secs and score with one minute remaining and eventual 2 point conversion most likely wins game if no missed xtra point. Eerily reminiscent to NP loss to garnet last year in playoffs. Does coach go for 2 there and win, probably so, kids were spent. I agree #34 had help but i believe #24 would have made the play one on one as he was unblocked and squared up. Great game either way....

Probably agree. Manzyk was shedding tacklers all game, but they rode that kid hard. White was squared up in the hole. I saw a clip of it on Twitter. Textbook tackle. Yep, great game. Maybe they both run the table until playoffs?

Cover -

So true - chasing points is not what you want to be doing.

And I wonder if on that last go-for-two OT extra point if it wasn't time to move away from Manzyk. At some point he gets stopped (statistically) or they just know he's coming and key on him (think McAndrew's TD run around the left end to set up the ending as a nice surprise).

Additionally, if you are going up the middle maybe you spread the field a bit instead of using what was essentially a double tight end formation (and if you're going tight how about a "package" featuring two lugs in front of Manzyk with one at FB and then one lined up on to one side or the other of the FB with Manzyk as the up-back behind them - basically look to overwhelm them for a few yards).

Hindsight - it's always 20-20, isn't it (and I'm not second guessing Coach Wilmot as I love what he does).

By the way, North Penn's DBs covered the 'Skins receivers very well and were quick. I also think NP's defense generally tackled better (notwithstanding Manzyk's two bolts up the gut for 35 yard or so TD scores). I'd also suggest the Redskins need to close a series as there were a couple of times they tied up NP on first and second downs but would give up a long run on third so that the Knights then moved the chains.

Anyway, I'm not too "down" about the game other than I would certainly have preferred the "W". It does appear that game one -- in high school ball -- so often can be severed from the rest of the regular season in terms of overall play. As example, the last three Wilmot years saw Neshaminy go 3-0 with a 37-31 win over Montclair, NJ in 2015 and then 28-20 and 14-7 wins over Roman Catholic in 2016 and 2017. It's almost as if the teams trade unimaginative punches at each other (playing to the level necessary) with one club winning on the strength of the other team's single missed punch (thus Cover's thesis about chasing points - it's a losing proposition when you're the team that missed).

Maybe with the early starts to the season and just one scrimmage the first game is really a glorified shake down cruise.

Moving forward it's onward and upward. Then as next week is in Perkasie I would be throwing against my defense all week long (I see the Rams clobbered that upstate team).

Go 'Skins!!

Huge play in the game was the Manzyk roughing the passer call, Neshaminy was off the field with a 3 and out, instead NP goes down and puts up 7. Two quality squads battling it out in week one, look forward to more...

You must of hit your head on some concrete chuck. NP is a perennial district 1 contender who usually gets better as seaon progresses..

Trust me I know, And I get it... this year they stink. Neshaminy is generally good too, have been for years. Whether it be due to transfers or whatever, they also stink. Middle linebacker is a nice player though, so is QB.

What did I say that was trolling? I give credit where it’s due. Both have been great programs for years, not so much this year. Even if you disagree, it’s my opinion. Doesn’t make me a troll.

Saying they stink after 1 week? A team that shows heart and fight and finding a way to win? You haven’t provided any knowledge as why you think they stink... Haterade.

First game of the season two powerhouses go at it. Some good, some bad. It's to be expected. I'd like to see these two lineup at the end of the season.

Neither team is very good, but they played a heck of a game.

Wow, I was going to start a thread on how bad the SOL has become, but you're slightly off regarding NP and Neshaminy. They are the two best in the SOL and easily top 5 in the district. I didn't think the SOL could be this wretched after NP-NHS, but they are. OK, Pennridge has their chance starting this week against Neshaminy. I think we can make the argument of bad teams all over SE PA. Just look at the results this past weekend, specifically in the SOL.

Relayer, I agree. I can’t believe how much the SOL is down. NP and Nesh are the class of the conference but after that it is grim. Maybe Pennridge will surprise us next week vs Neshaminy. However, I don’t think Nesh is great this year. Solid skill kids but not a usual Nesh front. Ditto for NP.

Cover - How did NP qb look?

Not sure the SOL is down, need to adjust to the new normal. In SEPA you have about 6 or 7 team in totality at the head of the pack and a lot of teams I'd say at least a couple steps below it. Opinion could change if Pennridge takes it to Nesh.

Agreed PCL the new normal includes Garnett Valley, Spring Ford, Perk Valley, Coatesville, Dtown East right up w North Penn and a solid Neshaminy. On a related note I didn’t see any posts yet but Spring Ford put it to CB South. Is Spring Ford underrated or is CB South overrated?

Yes Chesmont you nailed it. That is the suburban power axis currently and prob for a bit of time before demographics change again. Add SJP, Imhotep, and Malvern and you have the basic group that is probably a couple steps over the next group.

sorry...wood is in there. Mix up those schools...maybe one drops out. But you get the idea.

CL1, here's the highlights from SF-CBS. Looked like a defensive struggle for the most part. First 2 SF scores were on a blocked punt and pick-6. SF defense looked very good.

BTW, CR-South lost their best player QB Andrew Vera, who was injured on the 3rd play of the game against Cheltenham. That's a huge loss, the offense was completely out of sync without him. He might miss a month.
