The follow -up on this..
Since original article, Propst signed affidavit stating he had no knowledge (direct or otherwise) of any such "payments" to/from UGA & Bama.... he's been a rouge most of his "adult" life, going out in flames!!
Including all the immense personal baggage, there's NO ONE in PA that would compare to this man that I know of, past or present?? Valdosta, long-time premier high school football program, knew the risks of taking on Propst..
They were not Chester kids per se, but kids from St. James High School in Chester. When the school closed down, those kids ended up being " free agents". At the time, St James and Ohara were bitter rivals and though Ohara would have been the most logical landing spot, most of the kids refused to go to Ohara. Some went to Bonner, but most ended up at Haven, which was a 'tuition school" in those days. Under Pennsylvania law, a tuition school was able to accept students from outside the school district so long as the student paid the average tax bill of a school district resident. This became the tuition and since they were paying the tax bill, the school board could justify it by saying the extra students were not costing the school district any additional money to educate. Coincidence or not, many of the kids ended up on Haven sports teams ( mostly football & Track) strengthening already strong programs. There were all kinds of questions, rumors and innuendos as to how these kids were able to afford the " tuition"?
