That is former Easton great Jarred Holley (All State 2006, 2007, All Big East at Pitt) now on the defensive staff at Marshall paying a school visit to Easton’s two rising senior defensive ends Algee Macon and Kurtis Crossman. Cool to see.

I guess that’s how we felt when Chuck Amato would come back to recruit?

Easton and Pennsbury 2026 and 2027

Just announced today that Easton will renew their rivalry with Pennsbury games with non-conference games in 2026 and 2027. Easton previously played Pennsbury from 2010-2013, and of course both were members of the Big 8 from 1964 to 1975.

Easton continues to add fun, historically meaningful games (cue convo about the 1968 #1 vs #2 game between these programs) to their schedule with the new conference set-up and non-conference flexibility. Would love to see them get Neshaminy back on the docket to to round out those 60s/70s match ups.

Intriguing Matchups on 8/22 - 8/23 2025

Since it's the quiet time on the board... looked at some of the repeats from last year and new matchups this year. Add the games you look forward to seeing.

CB West @ Easton - should be another good one
North Penn @ Downingtown East - NP will be the odds-on favorite in the SOL
Downingtown West @ Bethlehem Freedom
Garnet Valley @ Coatesville
Neshaminy @ Emmaus - first look at Neshaminy under the new staff
PCC vs LaSalle - D1 talent all over the field for both teams, can LaSalle balance out their passing attack with a run game?
Northampton @ Pennsbury - Koncrete Kids venture south to what's now a very nice facility at Pennsbury HS
Archbishop Wood @ CB South - just to see if Wood was able to attract enough talent to be competitive

D1 vs D11 continues to be very good for high school football in eastern PA, hopefully it continues for many years to come.

Rules for "spring football" in PA

I have seen a few social media folks in the Pittsburgh Area say "we should have spring football" in PA.

I'm wondering what the means? What do other states do? Is PA football really "held back" by rules/restrictions for HS football in the spring?

I understand the value of playing other sports, but so many kids are "only playing football" anyways- I'm wondering if our kids are missing out on development, compared to other states, nationally?

private vs public schools

In the last 20 - 25 years, private schools in PA have upgraded their football programs. At the same time public schools in the PIAA and, specifically District One, have watered down their programs. Private schools are aggressively selling their programs. Not just the PCL but the Interac league, Mid-Atlantic Prep league and PA Independent Athletic Association.

I spoke to an AD at a private school 20 years ago who told me they start selling their kids to colleges at the end of 10th grade. Public school ADs do nothing, they are overpaid, have assistants who do the scheduling, and then the AD collects the paycheck.

There was a time when District One schools took on all comers. At one time, C.B. East played Lasalle & Holycross of NJ and beat them both. C.B. West played PCL schools, mid-state schools , Lehigh Valley schools, etc. Downingtown played Malvern Prep, Salisiumiun, Ryan (when they were good). Today District One is satisfied with having a 16-team playoff and the winner qualifies for the state semifinal and the winner could not beat 10 teams in the PCL, Interac or Mid Atlantic prep league. Downingtown East was a semifinalist this year in District One and got beat by Toms River North 30 to 2.

There are about 500 schools playing football in the PIAA, but the PIAA is ruled by the 450 bottom feeders.

Here is the solution: let players transfer between schools especially districts with more than 1 high school. Bethlehem, Central Bucks, Council Rock, Downingtown. Better teams and competition between public schools.

Even in HS today sports is about money. Coaches are underpaid, head coach should be paid between $25-$30,000 and first assistant $10-$15,000. ADs are overpaid. If they cannot get kids into FBS, FCS schools they should be replaced.

50-60 years ago, when a football coach was hired, he got a job in the school, and they fixed him up with a local bank for a mortgage and new home.

Until public schools decide to sell, any kid with any talent should consider private school.
