Gaige Garcia to Lehigh

Record setting Southern Columbia running back Gaige Garcia is transferring to Lehigh to both wrestle and play football. While he was definitely good enough to wrestle at Michigan, he wasn’t that level of a football player, but Lehigh is a great fit on both fronts. I think he could be an All American level running back in FCS (think Nate Eachus). If he just wrestled, I’d peg his as an All American contender at 184/197. Lehigh is an elite wrestling program and can get him there, though we’ll see what happens if he’s being pulled in both directions.

Q&A with Hatboro-Horsham defensive end Wesley Hudson

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“This off-season I’ve been mainly working my upper body and going out for runs and agility drills, but my team just started up with workouts again so I’m going to those."

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“As far as what I think I improved as of last season. I’m overall trying to improve on every aspect of my game, but I feel that I’ve worked more on getting stronger than I had last season and I’m going to continue to keep doing that and getting better in every way possible.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Looking back at last season obviously there’s things that needed to be worked on. But the energy is way different. I see the team doing a lot better than it did before coming in with something to prove.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Every team on the schedule is beatable, it's just a matter of how we play. But teams like Quakertown and Souderton are some to prepare well for."

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Obviously, there’s players on each team that you put more attention to when you see that they’re a better player and a player that I know that everyone’s going to be watching out for is Kyle Lehman on Wissahickon.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Playing football in college has always been a dream and moving onto the biggest stage is the biggest dream. So, I just have to keep working and turn those dreams into reality.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Luckily, I am fortunate enough to say I do have interests but no type of straight up recruiting because of the NCAA rules given to you saying that you are not allowed to talk with a coach until September 1 of your junior year.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“No college trips yet but I do hope to have some here soon.”

What camps are you planning to do this summer?
“I have a Rivals combine coming up and if I perform like I know, receive an invite to the Rivals camp series to show out in front of recruits to get exposure and hopefully even offers. But there are definitely more camps I will be attending.”

Q&A with Greater Johnstown safety D’Andre Sampson

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?

“I feel that my speed increased a lot and my track coach has been working on it tremendously. Also, I feel like I’ve matured very much and understand the game a lot more at the WR/SS position.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“My guy Griffen LaRue.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, for sure football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“A couple of D1 coaches followed me including a PSU coach, the Pitt recruiting director, and an Air Force coach. None have really reached out, but the PSU coach told me to come to the camp and that’s about it. A lot of d2 coaches follow me, but only Slippery Rock reached out so far.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I've visited Toledo and Penn State. That’s it.”

Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Not that I know of.”

What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?

What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“I’ve most improved strength wise since last season. I look forward to using that against opponent teams now that I have a year under my belt.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think next season will be a solid year. We have 3 returning offensive line starters, a first team all-conference tight end, athletic quarterback and young receiving core that has lots of potential. It will be hard losing one of, if not the best running back in Mars history, but we’ll just have to find new ways to win.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Our toughest competition will be Plum again. Plum handed us our only regular season loss last year and will be good this upcoming year as well.”

“My hip flexibility has definitely improved since last season. Hip flexibility makes a huge difference as a lineman, so I have been working on my hips a lot.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel that we have a great team coming back for this year. Coming in last year after losing so many seniors to graduation in 2019, we did not have much experience coming back for 2020. We did very well with what we had in going 4-2, but now that we have many players with a year or more of varsity experience, it makes the team look much more knowledgeable out on the field.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Definitely Central Valley. They’re coming off of a WPIAL title and also a state title. They lost a couple of pretty good players to graduation, but we know that they are still going to be a very good team and our toughest competition.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I’ll have to say Sean Fitzsimmons from Central Valley. Although I wasn’t able to go against him last year because of a COVID cancellation, I was able to watch some of his film and see how much of a force he was on the defensive line. District 1

After following the Pine Richland saga and getting to know a bit about the program, could a District 1 school replicate (or come somewhat close to replicating) that success? I know a District 1 6A school winning a state championship is probably a long shot, but could any of them win the District title two years in a row? Or three out of four?

North Penn and Coatesville strike me as the obvious answers considering they’ve had nice runs. Are there any other schools that could accomplish this? If so, who has the resources (consistent talent, numbers, administrative support, facilities, etc) in place to accomplish this?
