Emmaus 42 Easton 21

Green Hornets get back on track after their undefeated season ended last week. Jake Fotta threw or ran for five touchdowns and Dylan Darville was approaching 300 yards receiving.

For Easton, they clinch their first under .500 season since going 5-6 in 2002 (5-4 regular season with losses in the D11 semis and to P’Burg to fall under .500). Of course, that group was coming off of a conference title and undefeated regular season in 2001, then the young kids of the 2002 team went to the PIAA final four in 2003 and 2004. I have a hunch that’s not in the cards.

Not counting 2020, this is the first time Easton has missed the D11 tournament since 1998, and the first time since the field expanded from 4 to 8 teams in 2006. Again, after 1998 they went to D11 finals in 99, 00, 01, won in 03, 04, and finals in 05, 06, 09 (won), 10 (won), 11, 13, and 14. I don’t foresee this setting up them running off 12 D11 finals in the next 16 years, but maybe I’m just a pessimist.

Week 10 District 1 Games and Playoff implications/predictions

As we make it through the final week of the regular season, I think it is fair that several games can be predicted accurately. However, some not so much. I'm going to give it a shot based on what I think I know but value any and all other opinions that other posters can provide. Here we go:

1. Garnet Valley beats Conestoga. They hold the #1 seed in District 6A playoffs
2. Pennsbury wins at Heartbreak Ridge. Pennsbury holds the #2 seed. Great Job Falcons. Coach of the Year and its not even a question
3. CB East vs CB West is a huge game. Can't pick this one as easily as the first two. However, something tells me West is beat up. Not 100% positive so I value any information I can get from fellow posters. I'll lean towards CB Eastin the meantime. Great season for CB East. Not sure anyone thought they would be as high as a #3 seed going into the district playoffs at the beginning of the year. Cb West is a team that most teams do not want to play in the first round if healthy. They are physical.
4. Perk Valley vs. Pope John Paul tomorrow. This game also holds a lot of playoff ramifications for the district. I will lean towards Perk Valley to win here but it may not be a gimme like last year's 30-0 blowout in the rain.
5. Coatesville vs. Avon Grove
6. CB South should beat Pennridge I would think.
7. Another rivalry game that isn't a gimmie would be The Battle of the Brandywine. I believe DWest has the better offense, defense, and special teams which should lead to at least a 2 score game tonight in favor of West. However, this one is usually a close one so if East can run the ball and manage the clock, maybe they hang in there and win it late.
8. Spring-Ford should beat Phoenixville
9. Souderton rolls
10. Ridley wins
11. North Penn rolls
12. Quakertown gets rolled.

SO where does that leave us??? Only time will tell...

Q&A with Carlisle defensive back Jeremiah Hargrove

How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“It’s been rough here and there with injuries slowing us down. We [had] a few losses to some very respectable good teams, but that just helps us with that next man up mentally. [We] just go harder every day in practice and into games.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“Not as much as I thought with not being able to play with my brother, then losing some of the guys I’m closest with on the team due to the injuries, [and] then having a couple of losses. But I just go in with a mindset that the season isn’t over yet. The outcomes for me and my team are unlimited and I’m looking for that playoff push.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“I feel we’ve played down our own abilities but that’s just something as a team we’re fixing which we have been. It’s leading us to a great outcome with a big win over CV and now going into the last two weeks of the regular season looking to win out.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Keeping our heads up after a bad play or being down in a game because that can tear any team apart.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“Running and passing the ball effectively and executing blocks, making tackles and big plays and just continuing to play as a whole.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes I do, I really intend to play both football and track in college.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“As of right now none as of I know of.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“None.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“No, but I was invited to Army West Point for track.”

“No, but I do plan to attend some.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“[I’m a] big Clemson fan, don’t get me wrong, but I always wanted to play for the Oregon Ducks.”

Q&A with Trinity Area defensive tackle Jase Banco

How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“It’s not the result we wanted at all, there have been a lot of ups and downs. Our new coach, Coach Knause, is a great coach and brought in some new coaches and coaches from last year, and I think the culture at Trinity is going to change.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I have not been pleased at all. We are still hungry for wins and we played some games that I felt we should have won.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“We have played ok at times, but not where we want to be at all. We shouldn’t have the record we do.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“I think our team can improve on playing 100% at all times, and just wanting to win every down, and not giving up after a big play.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“I think our keys to being successful are playing our game and not trying to be a type of [team] we aren’t, working harder in the off season, and to change how people look at Trinity football.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to play football in college ever since I started in kindergarten.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“A college that has been looking at me is West Minster.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“The only school I have talked to is West Minster and I am very grateful for them looking at me, but excited to see what other schools are going to have interest in me after the season.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I went to watch West Minster vs Washington & Jefferson, I got to watch a great game.”

Do you have plans for game day trips?

Pennsbury 35 Abington 0

Pennsbury jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead and cruised to a 35-0 win over Abington in the first game at partially renovated Falcon Field. After an opening kickoff TD by #7 Beighley, Abington fumbled on three straight possessions (once on the kickoff), setting the Falcons up for scoring drives of 49, 25 and 31 yards. #24 G Mulbah finished 11 for 128 and 2 scores (including a 67-yarder) in two quarters of work. Beighley added a 25-yard TD run, and #12 McGurrin hit #89 Wisor with a 22-yard TD pass. Pennsbury's defense held Abington under 100 total yards, recovered 5 fumbles and intercepted one pass. Next week, the Falcons (8-1) head to Heartbreak Ridge for their traditional season-ending matchup with Neshaminy.

Coatesville/DWest??

Hearing that DWest was willing to play this game Sat, Sun, or Mon without fans allowed and Coatesville was non-responsive. So they couldn't secure the safety of the players during an afternoon game with no fans in attendance?? I hope for the players sake, and other D1 teams affected by possible playoff seedings, that this decision wasn't fueled by the Coatesville coaching staff issues.

Top 10 (regardless of class)...Week 9

Coming down the stretch. Regular season ends in 2 weeks so a lot of pictures will get clearer during the 1st couple rounds of playoffs.

Updated rankings for Week 9…

1. St. Joe’s Prep 6-1 (12)
2. Bishop McDevitt 6-1 (3)
3. Aliquippa 7-0 (7)
4. Imhotep Charter 4-2 (12)
5. Roman Catholic 6-1 (12)
6. Erie Cathedral Prep 6-2 (10)
7. State College 8-0 (6)
8. Coatesville 7-0 (1)
9. McKeesport 8-0 (7)
10. Nazareth 7-1 (11)

Honorable Mention (no order): Exeter Twp. (3), Wyomissing (3), Upper Dublin (1), Gateway (7), Manheim Central (3), Central Valley (7), Pennsbury (1), Emmaus (11), Strath Haven (1)

Final: Pennsbury 44 - North Penn 34

The Falcons are looking like the real deal as they go to 7-1 on the season!

Pennsbury's running back must have had 40 carries. He's a beast.

This game did not seem as close as the final score.

Birds have Abington next week and then Neshaminy and if 'Skins don't step it up Pennsbury will finish 9-1. What a turn-around season (0-10 to -- potentially -- 9-1),

Nazareth 20 Emmaus 14

In the best game of the year in the Valley, Nazareth knocked Emmaus from the unbeatens in a match up of Pennlive top 10 teams in the state. The game ended with Emmaus at the Nazareth 13, but unable to get a final play off before the buzzer.

Nazareth trailed 7-3 at halftime, but scored touchdowns on their opening two drives of the second half to take control. Emmaus scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to cut it to a one score game. Emmaus got stopped on fourth down at the Nazareth 22 with five minutes to play, and Nazareth drove down to hit a field goal to give themselves some breathing room for the last Emmaus drive. Nazareth also got an interception in the end zone just before halftime.

It is very likely that these two will see each other again in a playoff game - the top tier seems to be Nazareth, Emmaus, and Freedom.

Chester

How serious are the Clippers this year? 5 and 0. They have outscored opponents 233-10 and have 3 shutouts. Frosh QB has already thrown for a school record 20 tds. Are they a legit D1 5A contender? 4 basically lopsided wins against underwhelming teams but also a 33-0 win over a decent Interboro team at Interboro. Pafootballnews has them ranked 7th, right behind Malvern(5) and Imhotep(6) and ahead of Roman(8) and Cathedral Prep(9)
