Keep in mind that a change isn't definitely coming. At this point it's still just message board conjecture. Decker may still be on the sideline in 2015.

Yes, its all rumor and innuendo at this point. Remember, we had similar converstions this time last year after a 6-5 season and a loss to Interboro, and he survived that. Now he goes 8-3 with a win over Interboro so its not dead set that he survives for another year.

Speed, Your post points out the problem with the entire program. Why would beating a mediocre Interboro squad have any bearing on anything? This isn't the 1970's anymore. The goal should be going deep in the playoffs, not winning a meaningless turkey day game.

I agree with you whole heartedly. However the views expressed above were overall what many of the higher ups in the community and school believe. There is defintiely a split( mostly by age) as to the importance of the Interboro game. Some look at is as still the biggest game on the schedule, others want to do away with the game. In a perfect world, the game would not be played because Ridley is still involved in playoff football. My personal order of priority would be 1. Win the Central League 2. Make a deep playoff run 3. Beat Interboro.

If you fail on #1 and #2, that leaves #3 to save your bacon. And if that game is on yoru schedule, its next game up-you owe it to your team, your school, and your community to try and win the game, just like you would if your playing Garnet Valley in week 7. You cant gives the kids time off, let them go to their winter sports, etc because then the perception is your not taking the game seriously and come game day you end up putting out an inferior product.

It would take a monumental swing in thinking to get the Interboro game at the beginning of the schedule.

Any truth to the rumor that the CL will be moving to 2 out of league games next year?

1. Is Decker in or out? Thanksgiving was over a week ago. The equipment is in, and if they are going to make a move the sooner the better.

2. As far as staying in "family". Rumor is that they put out feelers LAST year to several coaches outside of the Ridley program's history/family who all turned them down for multiple reasons. But from what I have heard feelers were put out to see if certain people would be interested so they may be open to change.

3. It sounds like the Ridley goal from what I hear is not Interboro, but their traditional CL rivals. They've beat GV once in the last 4-5 years? When was their last "big win" against a decent opponent. They've beaten the teams they should beat every year no matter what based on enrollment and "history". Conestoga and GV have passed them in the last few years and until they win those games, the other stuff doesn't matter.

Pa13- Fords beat the last two years. From the outside looking in now, some schools seem to be getting more talent, other traditional powers seem to be falling slightly back....

Top 3 in Central last 4 years head to head to head.

Ridley:

Loses 4 of 5 to GV
Loses 3 of 4 to Stoga
Splits 2 of 4 with Haverford

Garnet Valley:

Wins 4 of 5 to Ridley
Wins 4 of 4 to Stoga
Wins 4 of 4 to Haverford

Conestoga:

Wins 3 of 4 to Ridley
Loses 4 of 4 to GV
Loses 3 of 4 to Haverford

Haverford:

Splits 2 of 4 with Ridley
Loses 4 of 4 to GV
Wins 3 of 4 to Stoga

I think in order you have to go:

Garnet Valley
Haverford
Conestoga
Ridley

Conestoga over Ridley due to head to head records.

We talked about this on other posts earlier in the year. Against the big 4 teams in the CL( GV, Have, UD, Stoga) they are 1-7 in hte past 2 years. This year they went 8-3-with the 3 losses to GV, Stoga and Hav. They need to be 3-1/4-0 in order to be a factor for district playoffs. 6 of their 8 wins were against AAA opponents, and one of the other 2 was against Lower Merion. The way the league is presently constituted, they will win 5 games a year by defualt. Its getting from 5 to 9 that is the problem. Some may say that GV is now their biggest rival, buts its not much of a rivalry when you are getting your butts handed to you 4 out of 5 years.

Next year, the league is going to only 8 league games and 2 non league games. Tentatively, those 2 games for ridley will be AAA Glen Mills and AAA BShanahan. So no real help with bonus points, etc.

As for now, Decker is still in and he may be in for at least one more year. Wh knows? But ridley does not do theings the typical way as far as football is concerned. When waller retired, it took them 4 months to name decker as a replacment ( even longer if you consider waller announced his retirement before the season was over). So if anything happnes, it will not be immedaiate.. The job most likely will NOT be posted. They will putt feelers out to a handful of candidates and find one who they feel comfortable with, and only then let someone go. In other words, they will hirew the next coach beforew they fire the current coach. And they have only fired 2 coaches in over 50 years,so they usually lewt this things play out.
