We have talked about the system being watered down, especially at 5A. However, the 6A tournament has 11 teams who are 8-2 or better.

Wanted to note here a major Mea Culpa. Didn't realize that Haverford School played and won today over Springside Chestnut Hill. That moves Penn Wood into a tie with Pennridge, and Penn Wood wins that tie based on regular season record. That means Penn Wood now plays Perk Valley in the 3/14 game and Pennridge plays Neshaminy in the 2/15 game.
Sorry for the confusion, but that should do it.

No need to apologize Kyle, we appreciate everything you do. I edited the seeds to reflect the change.

KBerg,

I appreciate all the work you do every year to keep all of us updated during the year on D1. I always look forward to these posts from you. Great work and thank you

Ditto everyone else. I think after all the great work you do, and as an NP fan your work doing the games, we can let this one slide. Thanks Kyle.

Who does everyone like in the bracket? Are North Penn and Neshaminy on a collision course?

Quiet out there.

Joe asks a good question.

There are a lot of quality teams involved - PV, Ridley, Coatesville, CB East & South, et al. You gotta figure one of them has the horses and juice to take a good shot at "upsetting" the experts and pundits calling it a two team race.

And as to my beloved 'Skins - I'll bet there is nothing on their minds other than this Friday night and the Rams.

Regarding Pennridge, They are a bit of a puzzlement as I believe they are much better than 5-5 yet they have been somewhat up and down over the run (and they did seem to tail off at season's end - was their QB injured and/or hurting as he seems so much of their "O").

Still, any looking beyond them is a recipe for disaster (you listening up there in Langhorne). Plus I've never been a fan of playing the same group twice in a season (just never have).

In any event, the "Second Season" is here -- yay! So good luck and safe play to all the schools and their players ... Let the games begin!

And oh yea: Go 'Skins!!!

Mole - I'd add DEast to that mix of quality teams. Defense other than the Coatesville game has been pretty good. The boring run game and occasional decent pass game has been given a shot of speed w Jennings and Stocker now seeing time in backfield. DEast has the horses to go far in districts. I know Pennridge is a decent program but I'll take Neshaminy over them at home.

I don't think the game is as close as the first time around. I say Neshaminy by 20 or more.

I'll take NP all over Haverford. Wouldn't be surprised to see mercy rule.

I'll also take Coatesville , PV, CB South, DT East, Ridley, and Spring Ford. The higher seeds all win round 1.

Pennridge gives Neshaminy fits, but the Skins defense has been better as the season progressed, despite still some poor tackling. I think NP is the cream of the crop as much as that hurts to say!

If the top 8 seeds all hold serve , it sets up a dynamite second round where I think 3 of the 4 games are intriguing. The only mismatch I see is Neshaminy / CB South. They already played once this year and Neshsminy whacked them pretty good. I do not think CB has the fire power to hang with Neshsminy .

As for the other possible match ups :

North Penn/Spring Ford. I knkw everyone has NPenn waltzing into the finals, but Spring Fiord may be the only team in Disrict 1 with the offensive firepower to keep up with NPenn. Remember , SF is arguably 2 plays away from being 10-0 . Not sure they can stop NP, but it should be a fun one to watch

Ridley /Coatesville. Two longstanding traditional powers thAt bring a lot of history and speed to,this game. Hard to believe given the history of these teams , but it seems like they both quietly flew under the radar screen this year in getting to 9-1. It will be a battle of Ridleys super quick defense against the overwhelming speed of coatesvilles offense

PV/Downingtown. PV offense has imposed its will on defenses in every game this year. Weapons across the boArd with a very good experience QB running the show. But have they faced a defense as strong as Downingtown? Their coaches have been here before and I don't think you ever count out Downingtown this time of the year.

I would be shocked if all the top seeds move on. Someone in the top 7 is going to get knocked off. I think top 3 are safe so that leads to 4,5,6 or 7. I know PW, Abington and Souderton did it before but is one of them capable of doing it again?

ChesMont -

My short list wasn't meant to appear to exclude a solid team like D-Town East as "in the mix" by its omission (I was just rattling off some names as examples).

I'm thinking there are actually a pretty good number of squads that have the tools and the motivation.

First round upsets often come when teams are unfamiliar with each other. I am looking for Garnet Valley and PW to either win or have really tight games. Coatesville is really young so Abington has that and an element of the unknown going into the game, to keep that close for a half, but I think Cville eventually makes it pretty easy win.

Mole - All good here. I'm w you and hope the teams I follow focus on the game at hand this Friday.

For those who see a lot of noise from Ridley I don't see it. Think that's wishful thinking. Central to me was throw a blanket over Ridley, Marple, Springfield, Garnet Valley and Haverford they all looked similar to me. I'm guessing that isn't good enough for any of them to make any noise at 6a level this year. Would not shock me if whole central is out by Saturday at 6a level. If one were to surprise I would say it would be Garnet because of their offense. They might be good enough to steal one and hang in next one. Ridley good on defense but I don't see enough on O for a real run.

Mu guess is like over past couple years we likely have some teams overrated based upon name and tradition and some others underrated. Think Perk Valley could be this years Upper Dublin.

I agree with you about Perk Valley.

So tough to tell, last year a solid not great Neshaminy team easily beat a highly touted Spring-ford 31-16 and highly touted Quaketown 31-17 both rather surprisingly handily. if chalk holds Neshaminy vs Perk Valley semi maybe tough for Neshaminy as they have had trouble on D and have not faced any high powered offensive teams this year. Roman or CB South, Abington, Bensalem, Pennridge, D-west, Truman (forget about CRS/N or Pennsbury) do not compare to what PV can do on offense from what I hear...

Iron has mentioned the strong Neshaminy secondary, but lack of pressure and YAC could really hurt if they do not tackle better across the board...
How is PV defense?

Bucks -

Yea - - 'Skins need to buckle down some on the Dee side. Their secondary is all there but it does seem at times that the line and backers let people get by them when they shouldn't. And I agree that pressuring a throwing QB is important and be nice to see that a little tighter. Still, they have improved in the sense that the "mistakes" are being held down over the run of the game.

That Quakertown game was going the other direction before the QB fumbled at the end of a long run. Not an easy victory for the Skins.
