Bonner fires Bubba today.

All I would say is congratulations and job well done to both Tommy O and Greg for taking a program at the depths of despair and making it relevant again when literally not a person on the planet wanted the job. If somebody wants the job it is because you guys did the heavy lifting. I hear George Santayana is the likely frontrunner.

Bonner cannot survive in athletics without recruiting. They have had an old school approach to,sports wherin they were willing to live and die with a bunch of local kids from traditonal feeder programs. In football , it gets them a bunch of tough , well disciplined kids , but certainly not enough talent to survive in the PCL.

With the added divisions next year they get away from Wood , so there is hope. They need to make a commitment like Ohara did and bring in a coach that's willing to recruit his butt off and they can be successful.

Who is Santayana?

Bubba is a good dude. He'll land on his feet again. Not an easy place to win. A lot of completion for kids.

Dave Woods- if it's him, has been around the block. penn wood grad , also coached penn wood and widener along with many stints as a coordinator.

Well, I'm going to back it up a second and say congrats and condolences to Coach Bubba. I thought he did a commendable job in a tough position. I feel he should not have been blind-sided by this decision, and he deserved much better. Good luck moving forward Coach Greg!

Well, nothing drives me back to posting on the board then the unintelligent at large posting against a coach, especially a good one.

You're right, taking this year out of it, which is a year they graduated a boat load of kids and replaced them with new starters, all Bubba did was have his team in the championship game 2 out of the previous 3 years. He also helped develop 2 of the better QBs in the area over the past 5-6 years in DiGalbo and Haley. He took the reigns of the program after Tommy Oropeza put it on the right path and then advanced it further, making it competitive and a consistent Delco solid team.

While some of his competition was regularly scheduling easy wins for their non-league schedule, he had Bonner playing legit football game against Upper Darby, Garnet Valley, Downingtown East, Academy Park just to name a few because he would rather have his team better come playoff time having played better competition. He helped take a program that was left completely bankrupt by Jim Burner. With Tom Oropeza, he helped get them back on the right track and competitive, all with little to no support from the school. They were rarely allowed to practice on the beautiful turf field in front of the building, and often had to run their practices from the baseball infield, where if you threw a deep pass it would go into the soccer teams practice. Even when the field was available, they often didn't get to use it because it would be inexplicably rented out to a local college for their sports events. Oh, and let's not forget that during the bad storms this past offseason, their weightroom flooded and was deemed unusable, and the school was in no hurry to fix that, so they had to "lift on their own".

Even with the inability to really recruit and getting zero support from the school, he had the program successful and relevant, when they were 0-24 when he got there. But you're right, his dismissal was "long overdue". That makes complete sense.

Huck my attempt at satire. There is a fairly famous quote attributed to Santayana that is extremely applicable in this situation at bonner. Catholic league 1 nicely summed up some of the "that's bonner" insanity and delusion and that's tip of the iceberg type stuff. I'd say it will take 72 hours for whomever the new coach is to have his first "wait, what??" moment. Last time they tried this with an outsider the guy literally was cleaning vomit up in the hallway within days of his hire wondering what he really signed up for.

They were not a disciplined football team this year, the product on the field didn't match the talent. I doubt it's wins and losses that got him out of there, they are known around the Catholic league as an undisciplined chippy team. I think it was more image than product.

They had several very good players transfer out this yr. One is starting on the line at the Prep and the other was a All- Catholic LB that went to Springfield. Why did these kids leave?

Heard the Lb that went to Springfield was due to Bonner not having a wrestling program anymore.

I dont know much but i know the LB was forced out by Bubba. He loved Bonner and wanted nothing more than to finish their.

Thats a shame !! Because that kid is a player probably the best LB in Delaware County!! The lineman is very good also stepped right in and started right away at The Prep and is only a JR.

He's a solid player but Best lb in Delco is a far stretch. Sterling on his own team gives him a run for his Money not to mention a few others. Kober from hav school is by far the best, and 2nd to him isn't even close. Saw him in person a few times and he's fantastic. Falcone from radnor is a heck of a player too. To call him the best lb in Delco is unfair.

I saw him a few times myself sterling is a good player but not close!! I agree him and kober are the best LB in delco!! Hands down..

Well I simply don't agree with you- it's kober- a mile a space- then like 5 lbs in delco. But opinions are just that opinions. Have a good off season. Don't see Springfield or bonner being very good next year. Thoughts?

Never said either team would be good next yr!! All. I said is and agreed with you that him and Koeber are the best 2 LB's in delco.

Never said he was 2nd best LB in Delco. It's a toss up and opinions will differ. Kober's hands down the best. With AP's D being very good, I'm sure they have very solid LB's although I haven't seen them in person. Sterlings on same level. Falcones a solid player. All Delco is a popular vote among reporters from D Times. No knock on D Times staff but only so many slots to fill.
