If anyone is headed to scrimmages today, I figured we could post all reports in here. Thanks

I’m not sure how good Elizabeth Forward is but Mars destroyed them. 3 TDs in 5 drives and should have been 4. OL was excellent and Goodworth at QB was on target.

Not too much to report from West / Wood. Wood completed a slant on their opening play and then moved backwards from there. West had their only drive with their ones on the field and moved the ball efficiently and scored. Some good runs by the complementary backs to Clemens, who only touched the ball twice. West intercepted on the next Wood drive (dropped by the Wood receiver) and moved quickly into Wood territory again with a backup QB in and sprinkling in some other 2s. QB ended up fumbling when they were about to punch it in and Wood recovered. Wood gets a few first downs (West jumped offside for two of them) and was starting to put in the 2s on D. West then pulled all their starters and one of the Wood backs broke a tackle in the backfield and scored. For the next few series it was West 2s and 3s vs Wood starters and it was more or less a stalemate with Wood not able to move the ball and West subs having just small success. Some sloppy play, dropped passes in the rain, and West jumping offsides a few times. Wood picked up three 15 yarders for unsportsmanlike and a late hit out of bounds on the West QB.

Is Wood better than last year? Seem to be, and with the schedule being a little more favorable, their record should improve, but by how much? Next week against South is not a good matchup, I don't see that being a close game.

Where is West? Hard to say as the starters got limited reps and they spent the entire game in one formation running only a handful of different plays. Played it very close to the vest today. D-line did look very good as expected. We'll have to wait until next week to see more.

I went to LaSalle/Neshaminy to see if what I was hearing about LS added up. I thought it would be very vanilla with Harrisburg being LS's first game and with a new D and new O, advantage to LS to show very little. First play was a 50 yard bomb from LS's qb to McFadden. Second play from Neshaminy was a pick-6 to O'Brien. It ended up being LS - a lot, Neshaminy - none. And I would guess LS threw the ball 20 times or so and they completed almost every one.

New, anymore specifics? I feel like Mars can be a sleeping giant this year again.

Little Kasper at RB looked very good. Not the wright kid from last year but looks like he’s fully recovered from injuries. Had long TD run. And the other RB also had a nice TD.

Goodworth to Hein was another TD.

Goodworth to somebody else just missed a TD in a DIME throw.

The OL was great. Clearly playing young kids last year is paying off. They are huge and look athletic and physical.

Defense also looked pretty good in spite of losing 2 of 3 LBs and a couple DL. EF barely moved the ball against first group. They also look fast and physical. Not as big as OL except for the C/DT who is only 2 way OL I saw.

3 of 4 DLs return and they were solid.

For a scrimmage, they were very sharp.

I was at the Upper St. Clair/North Hills scrimmage. It was totally dominated by the defenses, no scoring at all. Both offenses struggled to move the ball. NH's new QB McCarthy threw 2 interceptions and USC's Hellman threw 1 plus lost a fumble. Defensive coordinators were probably pretty happy, offensive coordinators likely miserable.

I think mars O line this year is easily best in 4A, and maybe the entire wpial. A lot of the teams in their class have pretty formidable looking lines as well, not an easy feat imo. 4A is gonna be really tough top to bottom this year especially with the quips staying, however I don’t think it’s too far fetched to say mars won’t be able to get it done riding behind those guys. And never count out coach k.

Anybody see anything on P-R?
PR looked pretty good against lebo. Offense looked much better compared to last year, especially in the passing game. Strader looks much improved and poised passing the ball In the pocket and scrambling. O line is massive, might be more of a reload than a rebuild there even after losing all 5 seniors including Cory. Might need a few games to gel though. PR scored 3 times, including a long td pass on a dot where Cunningham outran the secondary. Lebo was held scoreless, but moved the ball at times with an up tempo passing attack. They weren’t able to finish in the red zone however as PR defense was able to stand strong. PR has some challenging games coming up for the first few weeks of the season so those will be good measuring sticks. Overall though I think pr is set up nicely to contend in 5A this season. I agree with what you posted in the other thread, it’ll be pr vs whoever survives the south hills conference in the wpial championship.

Hopefully Rover can add to this. I got a text last evening that simply said "Easton looked terrible", and that was it.

A parent at South told me that South moved the ball pretty well on the ground against Easton, with a few long runs, but didn't get much more detail than that.

If Easton can’t stop the run, they’ll have a tough time Friday night against the Bucks.

This is going to sound psychotic, but I listened to some of it on Jack Logic’s radio feed while getting stuff done around the house. Opening 10 plays, CB South threw an interception but took advantage of a big run play for a touchdown in the series. Easton held Will Day out, so they were absent their best offensive player. They drove the ball inside the CB South 20 before hitting their 10 plays. Their big receivers got them a couple match up problems and chunk plays.

Second series, CB South got a couple chunk running plays. Also seemed to have a problem with the Easton pass rush, sounded like Macon in particular had some chances in the backfield, QB obviously in the no contact jersey. I didn’t listen to a ton of Easton’s second series.

Third series sounded like Easton went to some depth and was an absolute tire fire.

This is why it's hard to judge scrimmages. I talked to a second South parent who said that South was throwing the ball a lot, which would be a big departure from last year's offense. Told me that South scored on a long pass on the second series and then on a long QB run on the third. Problem is you don't know who's really on the field, are they playing their real defense or just keeping it vanilla, etc... And as you said, if you're doing 10 plays, and throw a pick, you just reset and keep going. I don't think what I saw from West and have heard about Easton changes much about Friday night. Week 0 games are always a crap shoot. Lots of teams leave that scrimmage with a ton of optimism only to go 2-8. And the better teams get a little work in, don't try to do or show much, then look great the next week. Hoping for a big crowd, but August games at West tend to be the most poorly attended of the year (by far) as many Central Bucks families are on vacation or at their shore houses.

From what I saw offense did look pretty good. OL is big but not the kind of big as before. If QB can improve his passing ability they could have something.

no the OL is good- and "good big" obviously we do not have cory, but as a group, might be just as good as last year, good OL coach- only problem is depth

Looks like Strath Haven reloaded their line. They have Fisher back at RB. They handled WC East.
