PIAA: Venue change?

From this morning's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"We played at Heinz Field for the WPIAL title with the NFL locker room and then we go to Hersheypark for the [PIAA] final and the playing surface was fine, but the locker room was terrible," said Greg Botta, who guided Franklin Regional to WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA titles in 2005.

"I've talked to a lot of [coaches] about this and what [the PIAA] ought to do is alternate the championship games each year between Heinz Field and the Philadelphia Eagles stadium [Lincoln Financial Field]."

Thoughts? Do you think the PIAA title games have outgrown Hershey? Do you like this idea of alternating venues? Have any other suggestions?

Re: Collegiate Development Football League open tryout 5/16/09

The CDFL would like to say “Thank You” to all of the players, fans and Red Bull for attending the April 11th 7 on 7 and Lineman Challenge! “The league’s headquarters at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Sports Complex truly became a “field of dreams” that night, and we are excited to announce that will be moving forward with another 7 on 7 and Lineman Challenge Competition on Sat. May 16th from 6-9 pm under the lights! For the players that have already registered and have paid in full it will be completely free. If you have not registered and paid in full it will only cost $25.00 which will come out of your registration fee should you decide to play with us for our inaugural season this summer beginning on July 6th!

This May 16th event is projected to have over 100 players in attendance! It will be structured just like the last one, and you can see some footage of it here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-K8npmn5r4. It will be pay-per-view internet broadcast live for college coaches and family and friends around the nation to view! Teams will be filled on a first come first serve basis, so if you want to bring a team email a confirmation to playcdfl@gmail.com or call (612) 743-4730 with your teams roster by position, hometown and contact info. If you come alone that is great, we will place you on a team.

We would like all players to bring black shorts and the CDFL will provide the jerseys. Each team will consist of a QB, HB, FB, TE, X reciever, Y reciever, Z receiver, 3/4 LB’s, 2 CB’s and 2 safties. The players will run plays directly from the Official CDFL Playbooks consisting of college level schemes. The Lineman Challenge will have competition for every position on both sides of the ball including, drills, tire lifts and tug of war. All 18-24 year old players are welcomed, and we strongly encouraged anyone who is serious about playing in the CDFL this summer to attend this event. It is a big step in establishing relationships and getting you out for the CDFL and college coaches to see. Hope to see you there! Take care and God bless. - CDFL President/Coach - Peter St. Lawrence

COACH WHAT SHOULD I DO?

To : Coaches

Hello Coach,
I would like to introduce to you a unique football, basketball, and lacrosse program located in Central North Carolina in the Piedmont Triad region. The Central Carolina Sports Academy is based in Greensboro North Carolina. The program founder, Clayton Banner has worked in education and sports for over sixteen years. For a biographical background for Coach Banner and the Warrior staff, please go to the CCSA website - ccsafootball.com. The coaching staff you will find is stocked with educator/coaches who are committed to the mission statement of developing the future… and that a second chance is earned. CSSA is an Educational system that steps outside of the traditional box to provide the student athlete a complete support net which will encompasses Body/Mind/Soul. The program is a very structured program, but is not a military based curriculum. The infrastructures of the CCSA program is designed by studying components from Jr Colleges, Post graduate programs, public and private high schools, and special education programs. The staff of CCSA has coached on all levels of athletics ranging from high school up to the professional level. The development of players in the classroom, playing field and higher placement is the heart of the program at CCSA. No student will be turned away from the CSSA program. CSSA will work with sub qualifying grades, low SAT/ACT scores, missing core classes, non graduate eligible players, aged out players, and none-divisional mold players (too short/too light). In the economic hard times we face as a nation, we are the most cost efficient program in the nation. On average the cost of the CCSA program is Tens of thousand of dollars less than traditional college and university programs and CCSA has gift programs. We help the player who far too often falls through the cracks. Do not let grades or lack of money deter your players from making there lives better and continuing their education.
Have players go to website and send in the contact information to schedule a visit.
Coach fills free to call for more information.

Sincerely,
Clayton Banner Jr.

Turkey Bowl Games across the country

Hey Guys,

Check out our series on four of the best and most important Thanksgiving Day games from across the country. Three of the games are now over 100 years old and the fourth is at 66 years - but is the longest west of Missouri.

Kirkwood (Mo.) v Webster Groves - Read the story
The city of St. Louis gradually has surrounded the communities of Kirkwood, Mo., and Webster Groves, Mo. But that hasn’t changed the attitude or traditions of the people who live in those two spots west of St. Louis. It’s the tradition to which these residents cling. The tradition of the lives they and their ancestors have led. The tradition of small-town living. The tradition of the Turkey Day Game.

Lincoln (Ca.) v San Jose Academy - Read the story
Truth be told, the prize is sort of ugly − an old, beat-up cow femur bone. That's what the winner of the longest-standing high school Thanksgiving rivalry game west of Missouri gets for its troubles. That old bone, though, means more than a potential postseason run to Lincoln (San Jose, Calif.) High School coach Kevin Collins, who has spurned invitations to the playoffs the past several years to keep alive the tradition of the "Big Bone" game against rival San Jose Academy.

Easton (Pa.) v Phillipsburg (NJ) - Read the story
For the past 102 years on Thanksgiving morning, thousands of people walk across the bridge from Phillipsburg, N.J., to Easton, Pa., and up the hill to Fisher Field at Lafayette College. All to watch a high school football game. It's the game that one coach describes as a game that no matter what you do, and that includes winning a state title, there’s nothing more important than the Easton-Phillipsburg game.

Boston Latin v. Boston English - Read the story
They are billing this year’s game as a Gridiron Classic. The rivalry is the oldest continuous Thanksgiving game in high school history, dating to a Nov. 25, 1887 game on Boston Common. Boston Latin is 0-10 entering its annual Thanksgiving Day game with Boston English (3-7) at Harvard Stadium. Despite its winless record this season, Latin enters this game as a favorite because it has dominated the matchup in recent years.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!
