The East: Top 30 (11-20)

11. Wyoming Valley West 10-0, #1. The Trojans got the top seed in the D-2/4/11 sub-region beating Williamsport 48-7, garnering their third undefeated season in school history. The win also secured the Wyoming Valley 1 title, wrested from last year’s champ Crestwood. Against Williamsport, Valley West had 538 total yards of offense, 230 coming from running back Sean Judge! With a standout quarterback in Aaron Austin completing 63% of his passes for 1478 yards and rushing for another 546 yards, this is a tough offense to defend. Judge has 1144 yards with tight end LJ Wesneski collecting 32 passes for 428 yards and wide receiver Devon Weidman at 32 for 568 yards. First round action against 8th seeded Nazareth (5-5) could get interesting as they have enough offense to make it interesting but not enough defense to stop the Trojans.
12. Pennsbury 7-3, #15. The Falcons lost to Neshaminy 16-14 for their second loss in the last three games but hung on to claim the 15th seed. In a scenario akin to “jumping from the frying pan into the fire”, they travel to Downingtown Saturday to play 2nd seeded Downingtown West, the very team they beat last year in the first round in Fairless Hills. Talk about role reversals. Last year saw the Whippets come in with the 15th seed against Pennsbury with the 2nd seed. Everything switched for this year including the location. As an understatement, that game was memorable, with 118 points scored by way of 1156 total yards of offense, 601 for Pennsbury, 555 for Downingtown. The Falcons rushed for 550 rush yards while Downingtown passed for 405 yards. Charles Snorweah rushed for 440 yards and the Falcons prevailed 63-55. Could be a good one if the Falcons get airborne.
13. Perkiomen Valley 9-1, #10. Perkiomen Valley’s perfect season came to an end in Royersford, losing to Spring Ford 28-14. Quarterback Stephen Sturm had a big game completing 31 of 54 passes (54!) for 292 yards. But the big play ability of the Rams did them in scoring on runs of 29, 35, 46 and 80 yards. Still, the Vikings are a dangerous, well coached team that gets a chance to show their stuff in Delco Friday night against 7th seeded Haverford. Of some concern is their ability to get it together again on the heels of a bitter rival game loss to Spring Ford last week. But it should be an exciting game, showcasing two of the region’s more exciting quarterbacks with Stephen Sturm dueling Haverford’s Jack Donaghy.
14. Central Bucks East 8-2, #5. How about these East High Patriots going 8-2 on the heels of a disastrous 5-5 campaign last year. And that was a high point with the closest thing to a .500 season being a 4-6 outings after their last winning season in 2007. But they’re on a real nice run now and oh so close to undefeated with the 26-21 loss to CR North followed by a 32-26 loss at CR South. The narrow losses to quality Council Rock teams combined with road wins at Pennridge and Quakertown says these guys are for real. In a strange twist of fate, they’ll get an instant rematch with Quakertown, the 12th seeded team they beat last week 24-23.
15. Coatesville 7-3, #19. Losing to the Downingtown schools is one thing but to lose to quirky West Chester East by a point was another. But that’s how it went with consecutive losses to Dtown West, WC East and DTown East proving fatal to their playoff hopes. The three game slide was the first ever in the Matt Ortega era (2009- present), relegating them to the sidelines for the first time since 2009. Also sidelined are quarterback Jordan Young’s 2332 total yards of offense (1698 passing, and 634 rushing), Jadan Hudson’s 742 yards in receptions and the acrobatics and fun of the Young brothers, freshman Aaron and sophomore Avery, Jordan’s younger brothers….with their 261 and 359 yards in receptions. Something is wrong with a playoff format that has this team on the sidelines. At 34ppg they were exciting!
16. Pennridge 7-3, #17. Talk about finishing strong, the Rams won five of their last six with the loss being a narrow 38-32 decision to Pennsbury. Hard imaging the team that battled the Falcons, lost to CB East in overtime and defeated Neshaminy will not be in the playoffs. Somebody do the math again! Maybe Pennridge and Coatesville will work something out. Better yet, maybe the powers that be one day understand that a 38-32 loss to Pennsbury and a overtime loss to Central Bucks East has value that must be realized. Ironically, this was a more productive team than last year’s (7-5) getting 29ppg to 26 the year before. Defensively, this group allowed 19 while last year’s allowed 21 and had the 13th seed. Imagine having last year’s running back Joe Unangst’s 2096 rush yards on this year’s team!
17. Unionville 8-2, #8. The Indians beat Sun Valley 54-6 to win their first Ches Mont American crown since 2012. They overwhelmed Sun in every phase of the game but particularly with their big play potential scoring on plays of 9 (blocked punt rtn), 29, 30 and 34 (pass), 80, 81, 84 (kick rtn) and 89 yards. With the 8th seed comes a home game where they’ll need all the help they can get against 9th seeded North Penn. Both teams are playing well with the Knights winning seven straight and the Indians five. Both also lost to Downingtown East in Downingtown; North Penn losing 28-24 while Unionville lost 49-13.
18. Liberty 7-3, #4.Liberty continued to drop in the rankings with their second loss in the last three games, this time to city rival Freedom, 35-21. Quarterback Doug Erney had a strong game connecting on 20 of 29 tosses for 224 yards. But the Canes defense had no answer for Freedom’s ground game that totaled 248 yards. In fact they haven’t had a defensive answer for anything recently allowing 138 points their last three games. 5th seeded Stroudsburg (8-2) is next.
19. Council Rock North 7-3, #11. Wow, how about C-Rock’s Indians? Except for the 1-pt overtime loss at Norristown, they’d be on a seven game winning streak. But who’s complaining, sitting here with their first Continental crown, a convincing 35-14 win over arch rival CR South and a heck of a seed after starting the year 1-2 with crushing losses to Perkiomen Valley and Pennsbury. Some kind of turnaround! A whole bunch of the credit goes to the unique talents of quarterback Brandon McIlwain, their South Carolina recruit who single-handedly took over a number of games this year, none more important than the last two. Here against Quakertown in a 41-31 upset and CR South last week, he completed 36 of 49 passes, 73%, for 411 yards and two scores, while rushing for 361 yards on 58 carries for a 6.2ypc average, scoring nine touchdowns. That’s 772 yards of offense in two games! All of that, the road win in Quakertown (and Central Bucks East), plus the big outburst against CR South in the second half says they can hang with Upper Darby Friday night where they’ll take on the 6th seeded Royals.
20. Neshaminy 7-3, #13.The Redskins fought their way into the postseason with an impressive, maybe unexpected 16-14 road win at Pennsbury. Realistically, however unimpressively, they’ve been doing it for most of the season, beginning with the win in Montclair, NJ, the gutsy win at CR South and the competitive losses to Downingtown West and North Penn. All these games especially last week’s Pennsbury win right after the North Penn loss, speak to a team of real character and ability. But they’ll need to bring their very best this weekend against the under rated 4th seeded Rams of Spring Ford. Like Pennsbury, they need to get the passing game going since the Rams are way too fast to just hand it off to Will Dogba.

The East: Top 30 (1-10)

Week 10....rankings and seeds.

1. Upper Dublin 10-0, #3. The Cardinals won their second consecutive SOL-American title swamping Upper Merion 56-13 to end the regular season undefeated for the second straight year! The win also secured the 3 seed after attaining the 6 seed last year, placing them in a game with Garnet Valley (7-3), the 14th seed. This one matches the Cardinals absolute consistency against G-Val’s suspect defense and inability to beat a quality opponent on the road, losing to Unionville 37-13, Haverford 29-21 and last week at Upper Darby 41-34. The Jags are well coached and will battle but this is a tough spot for them against the Cards diverse offense and underrated defense.
2. Downingtown East 10-0, #1. Downingtown East claimed their first title since 2012 and top seed in districts after defeating Downingtown West 21-14 at Kottmeyer Friday evening. Their “Big 3” were as big as ever with Jack Kincade rushing for 166 yards on 28 carries, Cary Angeline snagging 6 catches for 100 yards and largely unsung quarterback Saunders Healy completing 12 of 19 passes for 208 yards. Plymouth Whitemarsh’s one-dimensional offense is next and in real trouble here not having seen anything remotely like the Cougars barring Upper Dublin, who routed them 42-0. The Cougar defense that will dominate the 16th seed, forcing a lot of one three and outs setting their offense up in good field position (shorts fields) while wearing the Colonials down.
3. St. Joseph’s Prep 6-2, #1. The Hawks had a bye week and now play the rematch with winless Roman Catholic, a team they defeated 41-7 two weeks ago. While things are jumping at St. Joe’s with consecutive Quad-A state titles (wow!), it’s just the opposite at Roman, who before this season were coming off consecutive losing seasons. And at 6-4 the year before, 2012 was nothing to write home about either. Barring a tremendous upset, the Hawks will advance to await the outcome of LaSalle-Father Judge to defend their PCL-AAAA crown.
4. Parkland 9-1, #2. Beat Emmaus last week 35-12 to conclude the regular season in a tie with Freedom atop the EPC-South, a team they beat 38-7 three weeks ago. Up next is 7th seeded Delaware Valley (7-3), who has struggled replacing huge graduation losses. Last year’s team was coach Keith Olsommer’s best ever at 10-2. Still, Parkland handled them in the sub-regional semifinal 31-7. In a bad omen for the Warriors, they were far from competitive in season opening losses at Upper Dublin 42-7 and Wyoming Valley West 30-6, or at home to Scranton Prep (AAA-9-1) 22-0. Heck of a slate! Prep is seeded 1st in the D2-AAA tournament with a real serious defense allowing 8ppg. So, the Trojans should get past this opening round in pursuit of their fourth straight D2/4/11 title.
5. Downingtown West 9-1, #2. West lost the Battle of the Brandywine but not by much as they fell to rival Downingtown East 21-14. At times it appeared the margin would be greater, especially the way East dominated West on the ground holding them to 66 rush yards. That was especially telling although West’s passing game kept them in it totaling 288 yards by game’s end. Still, no matter how you twist it and even tho East won the total yardage battle 430 to 350, football games are decided by points, not yards, and this one was a tight one to the finish. First round action starts Saturday at home against a familiar foe in 15th seeded Pennsbury. See Pennsbury below for more.
6. LaSalle 5-3, #2. Coming off a bye week finds the Explorers getting ready for equally well rested and now healthy Father Judge ((5-4). The Crusaders lost the regular season game two weeks ago minus key parts of their offense, running back Yeedee Thaenrat and quarterback Rob King. The results were a predictable rout, losing 41-14. Although now healed, few are expecting a upset here. But at their best they hung with powerful Haverford School of the Inter-Ac, losing 29-22. Haverford has been one of the top teams in southeast PA the last two years, currently undefeated at 9-0 in the midst of an 18 game winning streak.
7. North Penn 8-2, #9. Maybe its Knight Time because these guys are really rolling now, grinding out seven straight wins while scoring 40ppg to enter the postseason on fire. They routed Abington last week 63-21 to secure the SOL-National undefeated at 7-0, two full games ahead of Pennsbury, Neshaminy and Pennridge. Pretty impressive stuff! The 9th seed gets them a road trip to mushroom country for a game with the Ches Mont-American champ Unionville (8-2), the 7th seed. Last year saw North Penn with the same 9th seed lose in a shocker at Henderson 40-13.
8. Spring Ford 10-0, #4. The Rams beat Perkiomen Valley 28-14 to claim their first PAC-10 title since 2011. Total yardage numbers in this one favored the Vikings 436 to 386. That’s misleading knowing they only got 14 points out of it and a mere 88 yards rushing. You still have to run the football in this game and the Rams did that effectively, pounding out 354 painful yards of real estate. That will wear the best of teams down compounded by Perk Val’s inability to consistently generate sustained drives or score when they did. Needless to say the Rams are a tough bunch in the red zone given the Vikings yardage totals. 13th seeded Neshaminy is next. Both missed the playoffs last year but should give us one of the best games of the weekend.
9. Freedom 9-1, #3. The Patriots beat arch rival Liberty 35-21 to remain atop the EPC-South, deadlocked with Parkland at 7-1. That’s big stuff at Freedom as their standing represents their first ever title in school history. The reward is another game with 6th seeded Easton who they defeated two weeks ago in overtime, 19-13. With a healthy Joe Young at quarterback (7/10/102yds) and running back Andres Santos (29/204yds) spelling injured Roberto Diez, supported by a defense allowed but 14ppg, they’ll be a tough out for most teams.
10. Easton 7-3, #6. They Rovers beat Nazareth 56-41 with running back Nysir Minney-Gratz setting records rushing for 469 yards on 35 carries and scoring six touchdowns. The D-Line was an issue for Nazareth coming into the season but….469 yards!? Although they are just 7-3, the Rovers are real close to something more with a 2-pt loss at Central Catholic and the ot loss at Freedom two weeks ago. And at the end of the day, holding Parkland to three scores in a 21-3 loss was an accomplishment given their physical superiority up front. This is one potent 6 seed that gets a shot at making things right in the rematch at 3rd seeded Freedom this weekend.

Jack Donaghy - QB Haverford High

I haven't posted on here in awhile but somebody needed to talk about the great career Jack has had at Haverford High.

Last night Jack became Haverford High School's all time leader in career passing yards, breaking Steve Joachim's (Haverford '70, Temple '74 & Maxwell Award winner) record that had held for 45 years. In his 3 years as starting QB, he's posted a 23-8 record (only losing to Downingtown West (2), Garnet Valley (2), Coatesville (1 seed AAAA), Springfield (1 seed AAA), Council Rock North, and Penncrest, all playoff teams). He also added a win over Upper Darby his freshman year in the Thanksgiving finale for the 2012 Fords. He would have started his freshman year too if Haverford didn't already have All-Delco QB Eddie Durkin leading them to a playoff appearance that season. But when Durkin went down with a broken hand in the playoff game, Donaghy looked very poised throwing a TD as a freshman in a AAAA playoff game (and then leading them to the win over UD on Thanksgiving).

The Fords will go to the playoffs in 3 of Donaghy's 4 seasons at Haverford (missing it by one spot his Soph year) and they have finished 2nd in the Central League every season. In the 20 seasons prior to Donaghy, Haverford had just one playoff appearance and they spent a lot of years at the bottom of the Central League standings.

Jack is having his best season so far in his senior campaign as the Fords have won 7 in a row since their opening night blemish to D1 power Dowingtown West. Not only has he been tearing up opposing defenses with his arm, but he's also doubled as the Fords' Kicker and Punter all season. The most impressive thing is that Jack is the ONLY returning offensive starter from last years playoff team. How many other QBs could put up the numbers he is posting with essentially last year's JV team around him?

Remarkably, last night was not the first time Donaghy has broken a Steve Joachim record. As a 4 year starter at point guard on the basketball team, Jack led the 2014 Bball Fords to the school's first state tournament appearance since Joachim's 1970 team.

Jack will go down as one of the best athletes in Haverford High history. He has a rocket for an arm and sees the field as well as any high school QB I've seen. He has all of the intangibles you want in a QB/PG and he's been the leader of every team he's ever suited up for. Jack works even harder in the classroom than he does on the athletic fields, which has led to some of the top academic schools in the country recruiting him. It's a shame he's not a few inches taller or else he'd garner serious Division 1 interest. Even without the protypical collegiate QB height, I know Jack will make any college coach who takes a flier on him look like a smart man.

Knowing the competitor Jack is, I know he will not be satisfied with just another District Playoff appearance and Central League runner up. He wants the school's first ever playoff win and their first Central League Title since 1995. But knowing the student of the game Jack is, I know all he's thinking about is Friday's game at Ridley in what will be the biggest game of the year for both teams. Ridley needs a win to make the District playoffs, Haverford needs a win to keep their Central League title hopes alive and lock in a playoff spot. I believe Haverford should get in even with a loss, but they won't want to leave that up to the computers. Should be a great game Friday night on Morton Ave.

Central League Standings:
Haverford 5-0 (7-1)
Upper Darby 5-0 (7-1)
Garnet Valley 5-1 (6-2)
Ridley 4-2 (6-2)
Marple 4-2 (6-2)
Springfield 3-3 (4-4)
Conestoga 3-3 (4-4)
Radnor 2-4 (4-4)
Penncrest 2-4 (2-6)
Lower Merion 1-5 (2-6)
Strath Haven 1-5 (1-7)
Harriton 0-6 (0-8)

Round One: Neshaminy v. Spring-Ford

Following CR North's victory over CR South on Saturday, round one of the post-season playoff games have been finalized with the Redskins drawing the Rams. Sporting a perfect record of ten wins and no defeats, just this past Friday night the Chad Brubaker coached squad knocked off the previously unbeaten Perkiomen Valley Vikings to take the PAC-TEN title -- the first for Spring-Ford in five years. A high scoring group -- see Methacton game -- they look like they bring quite a lot to the post-season table.

Then although I haven't dug into the details of the Rams just yet -- and no doubt Stalker will be providing us with plenty of information and I thank him for that in advance -- as this will be a road game for Neshaminy, and from just the quick look as I have made, the Redskins will certainly have their hands full with this very solid and also very well coached Spring-Ford club.

On a side-note here, Neshaminy and Spring-Ford have entertained each other five times in the past. In that regard, Spring-Ford High School resulted from the merger of the Royersford and Spring City School Districts in the mid-fifties. And as it was, in the early fifties Neshaminy played Royersford four times with the series ending in a very even split with each team claiming two wins. Then with almost sixty years passing before they would meet again it was just two seasons ago that the last Mark Schmidt coached Neshaminy team met the Rams in the second week of post-season play. The contest was played at Heartbreak Ridge and the Rams took an early lead before falling behind and ultimately losing in a wild affair that saw Neshaminy put fifty-six points on the scoreboard to Spring-Ford's twenty-seven.

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who might have insights on this year's Ram club.

Control the conference?

By controlling the conference, I guess you mean just as in this current year? Because before SF winning it this year and PV winning it last year, they have done anything but control it. Pottsgrove gave SF their best game all year at McNelly stadium (this seems to be overlooked in every write-up I've seen) and beat them last year. SF is 2-15 vs Pottsgrove the last 17 years. PV is 3-7 vs Pottsgrove in their last 10. And that school has 1/3 the school attendance of SF. Now with the new classifications and PAC-10 divisional line-ups, they will no longer play every year. So I guess those two teams will control that division.

Spring-Ford/Perkiomen Valley

There had to be close to 10,000 people at this game and that's an honest estimation. At 4:30 the majority of the visitor's (PV) lot was filled and many were tailgating.

PV's quarterback has a very live arm but overthrew a lot of his receivers. He also threw the ball 50 times which you normally do not see in a high school game. But they have some major game breakers which could cause some problems for whoever they play in the playoffs. However they are very small defensively and probably would struggle with teams like Pennsbury, NP, DTW or DTE..

Spring-Ford should win a game or two but I don't think they'll have enough fire power for the big boys as well.

Overall both teams should once again control the PAC10 next year due to their major skill players being juniors.

Neshaminy at Pennsbury

Should be another Redskins Vs Falcons classic. Pennsbury has to be the favorite with the better record, home field, defending District Champ and having beaten Neshaminy more often in the last 5 years. That said, I am going to be a homer here and go with my Redskins in a mild upset.

The reason, while Neshaminy hasn't been great this year, they have been very competitive with the tough teams on their schedule, defeating Montclair who had a down year, but is still a talented team, CR South, who is very tough this year, Souderton who always seems to bring their "A" game to the Ridge and a pretty solid CB South in a couple of close ones, while easily handling the two weak teams on their schedule. Their only blemishes are close losses to a great Dtown West club, that while they were outplayed, they were only one play from winning. Same goes for the North Penn (who beat PHS in a tight one) game. They lost to a good and tough Pennridge team in really bad weather conditions which really favored the bigger, slower, run oriented Rams. That game is the reason the Skins are playing for their lives. I believe Neshaminy has a punchers chance against anyone in D1. They have good size, speed and skill. If Neshaminy can get up on Pennsbury and force Pennsbury to play from behind, they should manage to win the game. For this to happen, Mason Jones has to be accurate in his passes and the Neshaminy lines have to hold their own against a more physical Pennsbury team. It can be done, and in these battles between the arch rivals, anything can happen (witness the debacle at Falcon Field in 2013 which tarnished a great season by the Skins).

Unfortunately, I will miss the game as I am taking my Boy Scout Troop camping. The trials of a Civic volunteer! Hopefully, someone, Moleskinner maybe? will post periodic scores, that I can check by the campfire.

Top 20: The East AAAA (1-5)

2015: Week 9 rankings

(Won-loss followed by Seeding)

Had to speed this up per travel; hope it’s not too sloppy-choppy.

1. Downingtown West 9-0. #1, Downingtown West won their ninth straight moving towards the showdown with Downingtown East Friday. It’s real easy to forget they were a 6-5 team last year, coming into this season with a lot of question marks. First off they entered the season on a three game losing streak where the defense totally bottomed out, allowing 34, 47 and 63 points to Downingtown East, Coatesville and Pennsbury respectively, following a 6-2 start. After two years of Nick Pagel under center followed by an outstanding season from Tom McNulty, there was some concern at the position. Not now with Thomas Mattioni lighting things up with 1429 yards, completing 68 of 102 passes for a 63% throwing rate and a 18 to 2 Td to Interception ratio. He can also run with 346 rush yards on 68 carries for 5 Tds. The backfield is well stocked with talent in Jack Barr (5-9, 170, sr,73/563ry, 26/568py), Mike Riddick (5-9, 185, jr, 44/392) and Brandon Harper (6-0, 185, sr, 57/338). Barr is the leading receiver followed by Colby Burke, Nate Alleyne and Kevin Kyriakos all over 200 yards in receptions. About the D, they’ve allowed 18ppg on the season, 14 discounting the 49 allowed (anomaly?) to West Chester East. And about Mattioni and the offense, they’re purring along as evidenced by last week’s 54-14 win at West Grove, beating the Red Devils 54-14. They average 41ppg. A win against Downingtown East gives the Whippets their second Ches Mont National title in three years. But that won’t be easy knowing East won four of the last five with four decided by 14 or more points. East routed them last year with quarterback Andrew Hudson (11/15/144/2-Tds), WR Cary Angeline (5/84/2-Tds), WR Dan Chisena (5/54/1-Td) and RB Keith Connor (22/168/2-Tds) dominating (Connor was a bull) in a 34-14 win.

2. Upper Dublin 9-0. #3, Here’s a team that given their record over the last few years is getting very little press. They’re something like the Temple Owls where the public simply refuses to believe they are that good. After seeing Temple whip, literally whip Penn State at the Link this year ,or last year where the Cards tore through the season then deep into the postseason and now this year’s run, you wonder what it will take to make believers out of doubters. Maybe a district title. With all the talent coming through the school, they’ve gone 29-4 over the last three years, 9-2, 11-2 and 9-0 this year, battling to the district semifinal last year. Here they lost to Pennsbury 25-14 after crushing Council Rock North 48-14 and Rustin 41-23. That group scored 34ppg , allowing 17, with 17 starters returning for this season; 9 on offense, 8 on defense. This group is averaging 45ppg with a yield of 6. Last week’s 21 second quarter points put an end to Hatboro Horsham’s hopes as they beat the Hatters in one of their more pedestrian outings, winning 31-10. They close at 3-6 Upper Merion Friday.

3. Downingtown East 9-0. #2, Like Downingtown West, East is rolling like a freight train, building a huge head of stream approaching the collision at Kottmeyer Friday night, undefeated. Wow. Won’t this be something! They routed West Chester East last week 45-0, for their second shutout of the season. 21 points came from Pick-Six’s! And while their offense is only slightly less than West’s at 37ppg, the difference between the two may be on the other side of the ball with a defense that held Coatesville without a offensive touchdown, allowing a mere 9ppg to the Whippets 18. Their kicking game is also strong with Drew Brennan drilling them from at least 41 yards out. Both are stocked with veterans, East with seven to both sides of the line with a pile of co-starters from last year while West has similar numbers, 8 on offense and 9 on defense. Line-ups change but both came into the season well stocked with veterans except at the quarterback position where both have developed quality. Saunders Healy (6-4, 180, sr) leads East with a strong arm (89/141/1184/63% 14/5), good legs (82/373ry), poise and creativity, a great ad libber. Jack Kincade is the lead back with 750 yards on 166 carries. Dan Liaudaitis has 16 carries for 168 yards. The big target on offense is WR Cary Angeline (6-7, 235, sr) with 34 catches for 563 yards. Jake Hanford and Ethan Harris combine for 45 receptions for 527 yards. A lot of weapons and a lot of defense backed by one heck of a field goal kicker could spell trouble for Downingtown West. Up here in the stratosphere that is the Top 10, the feeling is any of these teams are capable of beating any other member on any given weekend.

4. St. Joseph’s Prep 6-2. #1, The Hawk’s made the last four games look easy since the loss to Malvern, defeating St. Joseph’s Regional, LaSalle, Father Judge and hapless Roman Catholic by a combined score of 153 to 49. Now they get to sit back a week awaiting the PCL-AAAA playoffs where they’ll face Roman Catholic, the team they just defeated last weekend 41-7. Exciting stuff (tongue in cheek) and quite a plus getting to sit, rest up and heal while others are forced to play risking to key players. Come on PIAA! But, we can still look forward to the possibility of a Hawk-LaSalle rematch if the Explorers can get past Father Judge who by then should be as close to full strength as a team can get this time of year.

5. Parkland 8-1. #2, Parkland went into feisty Nazareth (5-4) and came away with a 28-7 win over the unpredictable Blue Eagles. Interesting group. At their best the Eagles defeated Liberty 37-35 who gave Parkland their only loss. At their worst, the Eagles lost to Whitehall 38-20. The Green Hornets of Emmaus are next, battling for respectability and a winning season. They’re in the midst of a serious turnaround winning their last four games by an average score of 43-19 (!) following a dismal 1-4 start. This includes a 28-21 win against Allentown Central Catholic. They have one of the top backs in the district in Kyle Boney (6-2, 225, sr) with 1823 yards and 29 touchdowns. He set a school single game record last week with 34 carries for 374 yards. But at just over 500 yards passing, they are still woefully one dimensional yet still with a shot at the D2/4/11 playoffs at #11, just below the 8 team cut line. Minimally they’ll get an Eastern Conference playoff bid. Parkland is sitting pretty (6-1 EPC) with the two seed but should expect a tough encounter from a team capable of playing at their level of physicality. Could be a good one.

Question for KBerg regarding AAA

From what I see it appears that AP,Great Valley,Interboro, MN, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, UM are in with Springfield Delco and Radnor with 4 losses vying for the last seed. If both win out would Radnor be the automatic 8 seed with their head to head win over SD? Does that affect the power points more?

Pottsgrove with 3 losses presently have 5 teams with less losses but they lost their 3 to AAAA teams with a combined record of 26-1. Could that propel them to either a 2 or 3 seed?
