Q&A with Warren athlete Tommy Nyquist
How did the high school football season go overall?
“My high school football season was definitely full of ups and downs. It [was unfortunate] to start off the season with your senior quarterback getting hurt on the third play of your first scrimmage but it also led to Eric stepping up like he did. The season for me was overall a great time and not just because of the way we played but because of the people I played for and played with.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Well right now I am playing basketball and working out almost every day just so I can get back to my pre-injury form and stamina.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“Even though we are losing a lot of key seniors this year I think that many of the younger guys will step up next year and take on that leadership role and next year will be another successful season.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I haven’t really looked into next year's schedule that much but I think our biggest competitors will be Meadville, Oil City, and General Mclane just because of the fact they will be bringing back lots of talent.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“It’s hard to say exactly who our toughest competitor will be, but a few guys that will be a struggle to stop will be the running backs from Meadville and Oil City. I also believe that General Mclane has a few skill position guys that are coming back that really helped them this year.”

Updates on new HC's

With one of the most high profile jobs finally being filled (Pine-Richland), which other jobs have been filled or are out there?

I'm in District 1 so I'll post the ones that I have heard but I know there's more out there:

Pottstown-?
Pennsbury-Snyder?
West Chester Henderson-?
CR South-CJ Sydzlik
Upper Moreland-Adam Beach
Garnet Valley-Eric Van Wyk

Any others out there? Any big jobs coming open across the state?

how legit are the best high school teams?

we all know the private schools have a big advantage, but what about the public schools?

when I say "legit" i mean how many of these schools are just using homegrown talent that have always lived in the district?

we see largely the same teams year after year winning or at least being in contention for championships, whether it's Southern Columbia or Thomas Jefferson or somebody like Pine Richland in recent years, is the coaching and program really that superior to everybody else or is recruiting common?

allegedly TJ's best prospect for next year still lives in Donora, which is a small town about 25 minute drive from TJ in the Ringgold School District, how do they get away with this?

Wilson Area - New Head Coach

Wilson, the 2006 PIAA champs in 2A, announced the hire of Mike Fleming as their head coach.

Fleming is was an All State pick at center for Easton in 2014 and paved the way for Shane Simpson’s 2,00 yard, 40 touchdown season as Easton won 12 straight to start the year before falling in D11 finals in overtime. After Easton, Fleming was a 4-time All PSAC tackle and II All American at East Stroudsburg.

Fleming was previously the offensive and defensive line coach at Wilson. Before joining the Warrior program, Fleming coached the lines for Easton’s junior high program. He is a social studies teacher in the Phillipsburg School District in New Jersey.

Fleming replaces Wilson alum Chris Labatch, who went 20-41 in six seasons, but led Wilson to the first winning season since 2010, going 7-4 in 2021. The Warriors went 8-45 in the five seasons before Labatch took over. Labatch was a captain on the 2006 state champs and was an all state pick at linebacker.

The Austin Scott Highlight Tape is Back on the Internet

Austin Scott Highlights 2000-2002

While old games are being posted, I checked back on Todd Shafer’s page to see what he has in his archives and found the full Austin Scott highlight tape. This was on YouTube years ago, but taken down. Obviously a lot of fun.

The first half are highlights from his sophomore year, then the 2002 clips start around 11:30 if you’re scrolling.

Quick class notes from District 3

4A for 2022.
* 3 is looking down from last year in 4A.......
* Solid programs like Conrad Weiser and Lampeter Strasburg will have major grad losses
* Wyomissing bumped here but has MAJOR grad losses off consecutive super seasons
* Berks Catholic is now 3A unless they opt up
* Big Spring has a vet team off 8-4 but couldn't hang with the big boys last year
**** McDevitt will have one of the best teams in the state

D7 crowd
Central Valley is now 4A with a solid nucleus back QB (A Johnson), WRx2, OLx3; LB, Sx2, CB. A major obstacle for Quips if classes hold.
