Prep LaSalle

I don't think anyone in the state (unless you follow LS closely) had LaSalle 6-0 at this point. I think Prep is still the better team. But, for once, LaSalle has the best player (Joey O'Brien) and they have the better qb. Gordon has done a fabulous job since he took over in January. He's addressed every aspect of the program and improved it. It's hard to catch the Prep in one off-season. So regardless of what happens, LaSalle moving on from Steinmetz and handing the reigns to Gordon was the best thing possible for the program and now everyone can see it.
Do you think O'Brien is better than Sacca and West? I don't know, having seen O'Brien only on the bits of Bob Long's broadcasts I've seen.

Prep LaSalle

This should be the game of the year. I would think most people will go with the Prep as a slight favorite, but I will go with the upset . Drew Gordan will be watching and guiding Brett from the heavens LOL. Nice venue also at Upper Dublin. Whoever comes out ahead will probably be facing the other again anyway in the PCL playoffs. Look for some fireworks !!!!
SJP and LaSalle are the only 6A schools in the PCL, so they are guaranteed to meet in early November.

WPIAL 5A

1. USC
2. Pine Richland
3. Peters township
4. Bethel park
5. South Fayette
still too early to say- but no way South Fayette belongs that high, they might not even make the playoffs- their team has not gone "deep" in playoffs for many years- certainly not in 5A-

crazy to say, but its possible for Peters to miss the playoffs! Every team has win at least 3 conference games, and they only have 1 so far

just too early

Congratulations, gentlemen....and if anybody´s been left out, please write in and complain!

Yeah, the team will face Ohio or West Virginia in the coming weeks. Will run the Power-I on offense and a 3-4 defense with a lot of stunts and blitzes. Nobody has to play both ways! For the guys who don´t like each other...tough luck.

Team was selected totally subjectively, the people I like got first consideration, of course! Open to comments and suggestions....tried to take nicknames and numbers into positional consideration. (ie, somebody with a number 78 in their nickname can´t play in the backfield, etc.)
What about Blitz?

Prep LaSalle

Very hard to predict. Do we know who's out because of injury? Hardy was going to be SJP's #1 receiver but he got injured against Erasmus, and of course Roy is out (for the season?). How about LaSalle?

The game will likely be determined by which does the better job on defense in dealing with the strength of the other team's offense--LaSalle's passing game and SJP's running game. I expect a close game.

WPIAL 5A

Karlo Zofko's WPIAL Insider Top 25 All Class Rankings has 13 5A teams in it. They would go like this:

1. Bethel Park
2. Pine-Richland
3. Upper St. Clair
4. Peters Township
5. South Fayette
6. Woodland Hills
7. Penn Hills
8. Franklin Regional
9. North Hills
10. Penn-Trafford
11. Latrobe
12. Moon
13. Gateway

Same 13 as my top 13, just a different order. I probably have Moon too high, I saw the narrow loss to Bethel Park but didn't realize until later they were outgained by 300+ yards...
Rankings are fun- but it's just too early to rank based upon records- some of these teams have barely played each other- this order is gonna change a lot- maybe 5 ways in the next 5 weeks. Two smaller examples- it's possible that North Hills could finish in the top to 5, and possible that South Fayette could finish outside the top ten!

PR vs Penn Hills this week- and Bethel vs USC next week next week might lock in 2 of the top 4. BUT Peters v Bethel is the last game- so shuffling could occur up until the very last game

Very competitive class in the WPIAL. Top 14 teams are solid. Only the bottom 3 are really poor quality. Pretty sure the champ is coming from my top 4, impossible to say who it will be.
nice- very thorough! But- this could change dramatically, 3-4 times in the next week- as of now- all I'm sure about is-
1-USC
2-PR

For now, I put PR ahead of Bethel due to strength of competition so far

And- the "sleepers" to maybe crack into top 5, imo, might be Franklin, Penn Hills, North Hills and Penn Trafford

Best guess- is 3 more weeks will get to most teams having played each other- Oct 18

Lehigh Valley Power Rankings - Week 5

Results from our top ranked teams
Freedom 40 East Stroudsburg South 14
Parkland 45 William Allen 0
Liberty 39 East Stroudsburg North 0
Easton 43 Stroudsburg 13
Nazareth 60 Pleasant Valley 7
Becahi 41 Pocono Mountain East 7
Whitehall 31 Dieruff 20
Northampton 42 Pocono Mountain West 6
Emmaus and ACC play tonight

Lehigh Valley schools largely dispatched of the Monroe county schools, with the Freedom win being the highlight. ESS is a good program, but didn’t have the horses last night. Patriots are 6-0 and close with Becahi, Northampton, Easton, and Liberty.

Northwestern Lehigh 49 North Schuylkill 7
Tamaqua 51 Bangor 0
Notre Dame 49 Northern Lehigh 19
Blue Mountain 63 Palisades 13
Southern Lehigh 56 Jim Thorpe 12
Saucon Valley 62 Catasaqua 14

Notre Dame smacked a good Northern Lehigh team in the result of the night. Northern Lehigh now has losses to NWL and ND, which should have them prepped and battle tested for the 2A playoffs.
