Not sure if there will be a season but Prep has 3 1st team all Americans, tops of any school in the country. Not bad for a city school.
Roxy, I joined the football alumni Zoom gathering last Thursday night. The game in Texas was cancelled a month ago--I gather by the people in Texas--and the game against Bosco in North Jersey can't be played because Jersey schools can't play till early October. As of last week, the game at St. John's in DC is still on, as are the PCL games. Roken said they were looking into arranging other games, but he said there was uncertainty everywhere they look. The first week of practice apparently went well.

I'm hoping there's a season, but if I'm being realistic I have to say it's at best 50-50.

Tulla, I feel sorry for these kids. Right now they're getting reved up for a season that might not happen and according to some, will not happen! They need it. We, as fans, need it or need something but like you, 50-50.

Tulla -

I missed the zoom unfortunately. I understand they are trying to bolt together games but it will be compounded by virus and their depth, teams will pass on playing and I don’t blame them. Could have been fun to watch but in reality, I just don’t see a season happening under this mess. Also, as you mentioned on countless occasions, the game itself is under siege and this virus is another major body blow. I think this year would have been the peak/pinnacle and moving forward, I think balance and power recalibrates somewhat, though their reputation will continue to draw attention. Stay healthy!

No doubt - I can’t even empathize with a parent or player during this mess. I can’t imagine the emotional torment with all the time and sacrifice. The thought that crossed my mind is how can colleges in 1AA and Div 2 or 3 assess the players in pivotal years of development? Crazy for everyone. Stay healthy.

I see the pass the buck game being played as mentioned in an earlier post...... State leaves it up to leagues who will leave it up to the schools who will lea e it up to parents. The speed bump left from that trickle.down is the process & cost of sanitizing busses, locker rooms & equipment. I would think if schools allow fall sports they may not provide transportation..... how many busses would you need for a 75 member team.....a 2 bus event may be come 3 full busses and a smaller bus. Cheerleaders on 1 bus will need 2, then the band..... it will become unaffordable. But can a public school allow an event without providing transportation? I know it has always been an issue if a player was not traveling with the team due to liability issues.....

Nobody really knows anything and that goes for the doctors and scientists. First no masks, then masks. "This drug might help in therapy, this one won't. Wait that one does." The only real way out of this is for a vaccine. We won't see normal until then. Shame.

Paul, I think we're learning as we go. It wasn't just a whim that made docs and scientists change their advice on masks; it was evidence.Same with having very sick patients lying prone rather than on their backs. I wish I could be very optimistic about vaccines. It's more likely that they'll be fairly effective than completely effective, and they're not likely to be as effective with people--like you and me because of our ages--with weaker immune systems. So I think we're going to have to be smart and learn to live with COVID for years.

As for schools, I'm troubled by the all or nothing thinking of lots of people. I think that in most places, they can open safely under conditions appropriate to the place and the age of the students. The same applies to football. Having high school teams in the same geographical area (not South Florida, LA, many parts of Texas, etc) play one another can be done much more safely than having NFL teams play one another.
