Prep vs STA

St Thomas has just too much speed for Prep. #4 has jets that don’t usually exist in high school.

Prep defense has their two key guys (Trotter and Agard) injured.

Different level of play down there - STA QB throws darts and Prep QB missing open receivers - prep has not opened entire playbook but this could get ugly

It's the 1st game of the year on the road vs a top 5 team in the country. Win, lose or draw, this game does nothing BUT help Prep in the long run this season. They are also down their top cover guy for todays game. I dont see any Pa team staying within 2 tds of Prep this year

Trotter out too and it doesn’t look good unfortunately - don’t want anybody hurt on any team

Incredible run by Jones to close it to 21-14 with 137 left in half. STA has been dominating the whole half and is only up 7. Credit to the Hawks for taking that initial punch(es) and staying composed

21-17 STA at half as Prep hits a FG as time expires in 1st half. Props to SJ for hanging in there and making this a game again despite being down their 2 best defensive players

And the QB - these are high prices to pay for these games - PA 6A is an open book

Seems like Jones is ok. It's pretty unbelievable that Prep is up in this game. Looked like STA was gonna mercy rule them in the 1st quarter. Seems like they made some adjustments and knocked the rust off and now have a legitimate chance to win this game

SJP is doing this without arguably their two best players. I’m not sure I’d consider 6A wide open. Does anyone really believe any other PA school would compete with STA like this? Maybe Imhotep.

Wow I think it'll be hard to beat SJP this year or next. They hung with maybe the top team in the country and the best team in Florida. That with some key pieces out with injuries. I don't see anyone in pa competing with them but the season just started.

A bad look would be carrying the north Allegheny banner and hating on the most successful programs in the state. They played a top ten team nationally to the end, please
It just upsets me because top pa teams can’t beat top out of state teams. When’s the last time a PA team beat a ranked team?

we can beat Maryland in the big 33 all we want, but that’s about it. We can’t ever beat Ohio, New Jersey, Florida, etc.

Sjp plays multiple out of state games against powerhouses each year. They’ve won more than a few times now. Some notable ones I can think of: saint johns college, saint Peters prep, don Boso prep, Gonzaga. Obviously more but significant ones. They lost to img by only 6 a couple years ago as well. That’s just SJP, plenty of other PCL and wpial teams have beaten out of state opponents that weren’t slouches, quite a few are from Ohio as well. It’s not even fair to compare PA to Florida, it’s a whole different level down there talent wise and SJP is the only one from this state capable of punching at that level.

Hopefully the injuries arent too serious. And other than the injuries, I dont see how this game was negative in any way.

-they went on an out of state road trip. (Experience. Team bonding.)
-they played a top 5 team in the country to essentially a 1 score game on the road in the 1st game of the season.
-new/young guys get some big time snaps
-injuries forced backups into the fire almost immediately
-they were on the verge of being blown out, but stay composed and even took the lead late

If anything, I think today was a plus. After watching todays game, I couldnt disagree more about 6A being an open book. I think this solidifies Preps talent and depth. As ugly as it was, Prep could of won today. They have talent but nowhere near what STA has

New -
There was resilience - I thought QB was done, hence the open 6A comment, but he came back. A lot of disdain for SJP which I can understand to a point, but let me ask the board, when was the last time any of these teams that SJP plays came north or east?? SJP plays a gauntlet non league schedule every year for over 30 years now and travel the vast majority of times. That’s a slap to PA football that teams won’t travel to PA but prep will travel to one distance school every year. They left Friday, played Saturday and come back Sunday. It’s not an easy task and they were competitive.

That’s a bad look for PA football on the national stage
SJP beats most thier out of state competition. That's a top 4 team In the country if not the best in the country. My Erie prep ramblers a few years back beat a Michigan state champion and the #1 ranked team in New York along with some Ohio teams. That is a ridiculous statement to make. It's not like SJP, pcc, or Erie prep played a cake walk like Alterdice.

Allderdice was city league champions last year.

Anyone know about the injuries to Agard and Trotter and when they will (might?) return? Obviously, it's not the same defense without them.
