Can't complain too much about a win but North Penn will definitely have some things to work on to go with a lot of positives. They definitely left some points on the field. 3 times they had receivers wide open deep and they dropped the ball. Also, a couple of untimely turnovers. Lastly, they need to tackle better. Madden was getting too many YACs. The O line actually played very well and protected Udinski. Dillon looks like he could be a good running back. He had a couple of real nice moves to get extra yards. To my naked eye it looked like NP was out-playing LaSalle but let them hang around. Some of the negatives are things they can and probably will fix. You could see this win meant a lot to the players though and they need to carry the momentum and get ready for next week.
Well put MDW. O line exceeded expectations. I was left with a little bit, very little bit, of a disappointed feeling only because I felt they really could have put them to the guillotine but let them hang around. The run game will continue to develop but it looks like we have yet another good back. Celebrate tonight but it's back to work to get ready for DTE.Big win by the Knights!! NPFan had it spot on ballot of points left out on the field. Madden looked good for LS as expected. NP OL played well and will continue to get better. #22 ran well in the first half. Did not see much of him in second half. Overall a great start. Haven't seen an opening win since 2007.

Nice win for NP. O line was story of the day but isn't it ironic that the athletic transfer qb for NP plays lights out to beat the school that so many rail against for their transfers . Poetic justice?
Couldn't have said it better myself. Only one returning starter, Caputo, and a former linebacker making the switch to O line but you wouldn't have known. They settled in quickly and controlled the game. 22 is Dillon and he was an unknown because of the 5 senior backs they had last year but he is a very good athlete. I think he is a little bigger than Mercer and not quite as quick but has that same style and ability to bounce it outside quickly as well as catch the ball out of the backfield. Between that and the fullbacks running, both Drop and Vasger, the running game should be more than good enough to keep the passing game open. LaSalle tried to put a safety over Johns to help but we saw what happens when you do that. As I said in an earlier post North Penn has too many weapons to do that. On both of Hubler's deep drops he was wide open because the safety followed Johns and Hubler went down the seem. Beck's playcalling was very good in this game. I also agree with you that there inability to stop Madden was concerning. One trademark of the Beck regime has been there ability to limit the opposing teams best player and they did a poor job of that. One of their starting D linemen is only about 5'7" 205 so maybe they will look to work in some more beef along the d line. I also would like to see them get a little more pressure from the other D end spot opposite Vasger. LaSalle looked like they were trying to focus protection on Vasger and we did not take advantage from the other side. All-in-all i think there are a lot of good things to take from this game and some things we can work on and I expect them to be fixed as the year goes on. It will be fun and interesting to see how this team continues to develop.a soap box remark then on to the game... transfers vs open boarders... potato – pa-tot-o.. the real question is will LaSalle be the “odd” man out between Prep, Wood and Imoh . in the “open boarder wars with getting players.. only time will tell… but it looked like they had their butts whooped by a public school.. (full disclosure I’m a NP fan and grad).. so I did enjoy watching it happened…from what I heard the next day there was a lot of chirping going on between the schools in social media.. doesn’t sound like they took the loss very well…I guess some schools do not teach social graces ...
Ok.. now for the game …I thought it could have been over in the first half.. my first thought was why aren’t they passing more between Udinski and John’s but thought you already know that will work so you need to test drive the rest of the “O”
I thought #22 did a really nice job as the featured running back.. almost reminds me of a back they had a few years ago (Mercer).. not sure if he is as fast as Mercer was – but it looked like if the kid had a crease he was taking off.
What really impressed me was the O-line.. after losing a Sr. line last year with mostly 2 year starters.. they came out like gang busters.. it usually takes the line a couple of weeks to find their grove but they seems to click right away.. you can usually replace a skill position.. but how do you replace an entire line and get them to click in the first game.. from the cheap seat it looked like Lasalle was trying a lot of stunts upfront and all but a couple the line picked them up.. as a former linemen I have to admit it was fun to watch them work so well together.. they protected their QB, gave #22 a lot of holes.. also looks like they can still run that inside trap.. forget which back hit the trap (either 17 or 32).. but it turned into a nice gain..
What worries me is their ability to stop the run.. again it was the first game, you have a new group of kids trying to mesh together facing a very good back for their first test.. they should cruise through the SOL so that will give them time to get into a grove.. a couple of big test in the next two weeks .. so I guess we will see sooner rather then later…..
Good to see the NP faithful puffing their chests out after a week one game. Usually, not the case. One of the biggest schools in the state, so harping on open enrollment is really yawn worthy.
Good program and all the best moving forward. Probably on the short list of 6A contenders in D-1.
Puffing our chests out? Or is it more like have intellectual discussion regarding a nice win against a team that has beaten us 6 years in a row. A discussion on a football message board about our football team who we think can be pretty good this year. I think most any North Penn fan will tell you that we use LaSalle, St. Joe's, Wood all as measuring sticks due to the quality of their programs. If you read my posts I clearly state there are some things to work on. The reason I think they need to work on them is so that they can hopefully try and compete with the St. Joe's, Central Catholics, Pine Richlands, etc. down the line. That is, if we can even navigate through a tough D1. Like I said, It was a convincing win against a team that has beaten us 6 years in a row and was ranked ahead of us in most rankings...YES, we are excited about it. North Penn isn't even the biggest school in the state anymore, and with the new classification system it has been balanced out even a little bit more. According to many sites Reading, Hazleton, Upper Darby, Parkland and even Pennsbury all have higher enrollments now and they aren't exactly lighting the world on fire. North Penn, while having a massive enrollment, works very hard in the offseason and the two feeder youth programs have been terrific.Good to see the NP faithful puffing their chests out after a week one game. You are right. If you watch the way she kicked on the shorter kickoffs she took a two or three step walk up and leaned back to get under the ball more. This was something Beck has started doing in the last year or two with soccer kickers because of their ability to lift the ball high. They did get a couple of turnovers last year as a result. When it wasn't working she changed her starting position and took a 4 or 5 step run-up and hit it to the 3.NPfan... haters are going to hate.. and I agree we both did point out area's we needed to improve.. guess they missed that part.. oh the kicker.. did anyone notice when she let one go it went to the 3 yard line... or that she played for one of the top travel soccer teams in the state? guess not...

After hours ..Grow up.. Hopefully if you have a daughter you don't think the same way ..
As long as I can stop with being PC or civil on this board.. funny what you can find if you look at prior posts... I was going to repost something that was posted about you last season when you were picking about a QB.... but it mentioned your family..so I'll just go with ... I'm done with this conversation..

Udinski makes this a completely different team this year. He is a very good QB and will present problems for most teams NP faces. It was a good win even though I was hoping for a LaSalle victory. No doubt the loss of QB Jones influenced the outcome to some degree.Couldn't have said it better myself.
