Mars 2024

35-7 Kasper Jr with 4 rushing TDs. Mars showing nice variety in Offense. Not sure how good Knoch is.

Have Port next week likely for conference championship. Port has a bad record - but 5A teams who beat them have a combined 17-1 record entering tonight.

Mars goes down 28-7. In RedZone a bunch but couldn’t punch it in. After a slow start D did a nice job in second half.

Likely looking at a 5-5 regular season and a 7/8 playoffs seed vs Quips or TJ in round 1.

After being down 21-6 at the half, Mars has got all the momentum and closed the gap to 28-26. Beginning of Q4. Neither D looks great in second half but Mars is playing with some spirit.

Montour drives the field in 7 plays with about 10 total missed tackles and scores. 35-26 with 6:45 to play.

Mars with stop and quick drive for score then with another stop and a huge punt return. 41-35 Mars with 2:30 to go. Montour ball. Incredible game! Mars D stepped up.

Montour gets kick. First play is a draw for 75 yards to the 3. Scored on 2nd play.

42-41 Montour with 1:46 to go...

Both defenses are not good. I have no idea how Montour beat Aliquippa.

Mars freshman QB leading them down the field. Ball on 32. In FG range. Under a minute to go. First down Mars.

Mars scores on 3rd and long!!

Mars 48 Montour 42 with 12 seconds to go.

Final. 48-42

Mars with upset of #2 seed Montour. Eric Kasperowicz Jr. ends up with 6 TD's! Mars scored 42 points in second half. An incredible game!

Mars will play McKeesport in another rematch next Friday. Thomas Jefferson vs. Quips in other semi-final.

Well, that's a wrap on 2024. Inability to tackle continued to be an issues.

Will be interesting to see what happens in the off-season.

new- i got a thought on EK and Mars- he is obviously a great coach- but Mars seemed to have some weird "soft spots" on the team. He is great at "adding new kids" I wonder if what hurt them, is kids, who are less experienced players, that he has recruited form within the HS, to "start playing football" now playing tough opponents?

thoughts?

Here’s my thought. He’s got above average OL and some DL.

But once you get to skill and big skill (TE,LB, DE) many of those kids still play Lax.

It’s really evident in DB/WR - besides the Hein kid they had close to nobody with above average HS overall athleticism and speed.
