Nova,
It's not that LS has "accepted" football mediocrity, the administrative posture has not and will not change regardless of the "All-in" modus operandi currently exhibited from our friends at 17th & Girard. We had a great run during the BG(player)/DG coordinator years during the '90's, had a similar run with BG/DG( OC/Coach) from '06 to present.
The current posture at LS is all athletic teams are of equal importance, and get equal support financially and otherwise, which is probably why LS has dominated the PCL athletic title(s) haul in recent years. My FB friends don't like hearing this as many regard Football as the marquis sport and perhaps should get the lion-share of the attention and support. It's just not going to happen at LaSalle, hasn't to date and unless there's an epiphany of different Administrative and Board thinkers, it won't in the future. We benefited by some wonderful players surrounding Brett as QB and those St. Gen's heavy classes that came in the mid '00's. LS must rely on those type of occurrences to compete at the highest level, it just won't be re-loading year after year. Prep is currently in that re-loading phase right now, and will until further notice. IMHO...
I wish Coach Steinmetz well, a good man with a difficult task moving forward. Will need to garner a solid OC/coaches and hope that one of those LaSalle "cycles" will return during his tenure. As I stated before, when the athletic talent on the field is comparable, coaching and the intangibles often make the difference for victory and success. The FB PCL at the 4A/3A level currently is dramatically top-heavy with SJP and Wood that it's really not open for debate.
