Here's some info on Williamsport.
Harrisburg and Williamsport will play a Tuesday Oct 20th game at 7:00 PM in Williamsport of District-4. They became available when Pittston called off Friday’s game per covid issues. The Williamsport Sun-Gazette ranks them third in the district behind top ranked Montoursville (5-0, 3A) and second ranked Jersey Shore (4-0, 4A). They play in the Wyoming Valley Conference-Division One as a 6A with Wyoming Valley West, Hazelton and Wilkes Barre.
To date they’re 5-0, defeating Nanticoke (1-5, 3A) 43-18, Wyoming Area (3-3, 3A) 35-14, Berwick (1-3, 4A) 26-7, Wilkes-Barre (2-3, 6A) 26-0 and Wyoming Valley West (2-3, 5A) 48-13. Head coach Charles Crews is 33-25 in his sixth year running a Pro offense and a 4-3 defense coming off a 3-8 season with a young team. They have a veteran line returning in Charles Crews III (6-1, 245, jr), Dade Splain (6-3, 235, jr), Connor Adkins (6-0, 235, jr), Joel Feleppa (5-9, 255, jr) and TE Nassir Jones (6-2, 225, sr). I believe sophomore Beau Smith (6-2, 220) is the other starter. Last year’s team had a decent start at 3-2 with tough losses to Berwick (9-3) 17-10 and Crestwood (7-5) 15-14 until beset by injuries, going 0-5 down the stretch. This year’s team returns eight starters on both sides making them a tough out. They are loaded with skill having game breaking ability; eg, getting scores of 47, 73, 33, 28 and 52 yards out against defending 3A champ Wyoming Area this year. Frankie Morrone (5-11, 190) wasn’t supposed to be the starter until Dallas Griess broke a collarbone early. He’s done well, completing 62 of 92 (67%) for 812 yards with a 10/3 Td-Pick ratio. TE Nassir Jones is his primary target with 25 catches for 290 yards, followed by Cam Sims (5-10, 160, jr) with 14 receptions for 226 yards. Keith Freeman (6-0, 175, jr) is their dual threat rushing for 260 yards on 31 attempts and 194 yards via 13 receptions. Nasir Hennigan (5-7, 145, so) is the lead rusher with 272 yards on 50 carries followed by Danier Sams-Glover (5-3, 120, jr) with 29 carries for 159 yards. It’s a light weight attack that relies on speed by the looks of their skill people. Many play both ways.
This has the makings of a exciting game with Harrisburg in the position to pick up some important points with a win against a 6A to possibly edge out Central Dauphin for the top District-3 seed. Same for the Millionaires. Like Williamsport, Harrisburg has good team speed but far more bulk and physicality. Having a senior quarterback who is tested in the Mid Penn wars against Central Dauphin and State College, plus non-conference foes including Coatesville, Wilson and Archbishop Hoban (OH) is great prep for an inter-district game such as this.
