Trainer John Servis with Smarty Jones lost his bid for the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978 when Smarty was “ganged up on”, losing to Birdstone (36-1) in the 2004 Belmont, then saw his brother Jason Servis, the trainer of Maximum Security get DQ’d 15 years later losing to longshot Country House (65-1) in last weekend’s Kentucky Derby. Talk about snake bit.
Smarty proved he was a great horse before the Belmont as Maximum Security may do as he sure looked like the best horse Saturday.
