I'll write more later this weekend, but this was a good old fashioned slug-fest with West making the one big play when they needed it. Survived some first half miscues to outlast the Rams. Game came down to a 4th and 3, and the West backers, Mancini and Goldrick, shot through and stopped Picciotti dead in his tracks to seal the win.

The theme of this game was that neither side could stop the other's run game. Both teams had only two second half possessions (not counting West kneeling it out) and on 4th down in the red zone, West punched it in with a terrific surge on sneak from Cooper from the 2, and Picciotti got stuffed on 4th and 3 from the West 12. It's the type of game that usually is won with the last drive of the game, but the West LBs, who had to be exhausted at that point in the game (only full time two way starters for West) both came hard to make the stop and Pennridge came up two yards short. This was a VERY entertaining game, with much more offense than I think most expected. Two different versions of the wing-t, both equally effective. Pennridge was noticeably bigger than West, but the West players showed their usual fight in coming back from behind twice.

Things of note, in my opinion:

1. After stopping Pennridge on their first possession on a 4th down at midfield, Boehm took the handoff on West's first offensive play and went 50 yards off tackle for the TD. After the ensuing kickoff, Pennridge answered on their next play with Mossbrook taking it almost 80 up his own sideline.
2. Pennridge got a stop and added a FG. West drove right back down and Mancini punched one in... barely 8 minutes in and it was already 14-10.
3. Second quarter was disastrous for West. Fumbled a snap in their own end, short return by PR to the West 3. West almost pulled off a miracle, stopping PR on the first three plays at the goal line before PR scored on a gadget play on 4th down that West had a chance to stop but couldn't make the play. 17-14 PR. West found themselves with a 4th down in PR territory later in the quarter and ran a go route to McFadden, who was returning from missing two games due to an injury. Blew right by the PR secondary, perfect throw from Cooper, dropped in the end zone. West would only complete one pass on the night, a screen to Boehm.
4. West took the second half kickoff and methodically moved down the field. Mancini short run for the TD. Not sure the number of plays but more than 10, chewing up much of the 3rd quarter. 21-17 West
5. PR goes right down the field on West, TD pass to the other Mossbrook who beat the West corner on a catch and run from the 15. West had PR in a 2nd and very long situation but let them escape. 24-21 Pennridge and just about the end of the 3rd quarter
6. PR tried to put the game away with an onsides kick. It didn't look well conceived or executed. West covered the ball on their own 37 after getting a good bounce.
7. West again slowly drove the length of the field in what had to be 12+ plays this time. PR stiffened and had them 4th and 1 at the 2 yard line. West ran a sneak and got a very strong push from the right side of their line (T Quinn / TE Goldrick) Great shot of it on Andrew Robinson's twitter feed. Not only got the first down but scored. 28-24 West. Plenty of time left for PR.
8. PR moves down the field, got a long run with some broken / missed tackles and it looked like they would score and not leave enough time for West to counter. They faced a 3rd and 7 from the West 16 after an incomplete pass and a short gain on a QB buck sweep. They decided to go with Picciotti on what looked like iso. West D-lineman almost had him in the backfield but he broke the tackle and gained 4.
9. 4th and 3 and PR lined up in a jumbo package, TE / Wing to each side, Piccioti in pistol behind the QB. Just ran a simple dive play, and both Goldrick and Mancini shot through the line and hit him at the LOS. Might have gained a yard as he fell but come up two yards short. West kneeled it out to spoil homecoming.
10. Pennridge had two personal fouls called on them, one a late hit on Picciotti and another on what looked like a late shove but I was told this weekend it was a taunting call on the same player who shoved the West player back over the pile. If I can confirm from another source what I was told was said, I'll share it because it was a good line, but a costly one...
11. West did a pretty good job bottling up the middle of the field but Pennridge got a lot of yardage on the edges on what seemed to be buck sweep. PR broke tackles on a few runs up the middle. West needs to stiffen defensively going forward, but the effort was there, they were flying to the ball. Trot Lare had another great game for West at corner and LBs Goldrick and Mancini had a bunch of tackles also.
12. West ran for almost 300 against what is one of the best defenses in the SOL. Kudos to what is an undersized o-line besides the tackles. (260, 185, 205, 205, 265, 205 at TE) They're starting to click, but.... passing game still anemic. Boehm ran for 120 on 13 carries. He's averaging over 8 yards a carry and Mancini continues to pound it from the FB spot. The right HB Cherubini gets the fewest carries but seems to have a long carry or two in every game recently. His average has to be even higher than Boehm's. Last two weeks he has 11 carries for 176. Quin Whalen is a stud at RT and Goldrick is a very good blocking TE. Young LT Mulligan is one to watch going forward.

As I said earlier, fun game to watch no matter who ended up winning. Good sized PR crowd for homecoming and a very big win for the Bucks.

Here's my take..... When you can't recognize an unbalanced line and make adjustments the coach is an ..... When your play calling is atrocious and go on 4th down on the 50 yardline you're a .....! And when you unprepare your team and they lose don't stand in the middle if the field, rant and rave waving your arms just to grandstand. Show some class. Something CBW has always showed win or lose. Keep Picciotti's name out of it, no one stopped him but his coach.. That being said the CBW coach and his staff are excellent. They schooled the PR staff. The players are well coached and a bunch of gamers who never quit. Proud to say they those kids are wearing the Black and Gold, everyone of them! Hats off! ... The better TEAM won! GO BUCKS! BEAT NORTH PENN!

Wilson, I’m assuming it was PR who was not recognizing these things and adjusting?

You're right about Picciotti... in the article on the game on Papreplive, Robinson noted that the entire stadium knew where the ball was going on the 4th down play. Well if he knew, and the rest of the stadium knew, then the West linebackers probably knew too. And that's a problem.

At some point the PR faithful, if they aren't already, have to question what's going on there. I know that I'm a West guy and yes, I really like the current coaching staff... but when you eyeball the two teams when they come on the field, or look at the rosters in the program, I'm not sure how Pennridge isn't a two TD favorite. I'm not going to get into comparing each position, but if you went through that exercise who are you picking? Are the PR kids being put in a position to be successful? Obviously, football being the ultimate team sport, the tale of the tape doesn't mean much to the players when they take the field. West seems to be getting the most out of what they have on the roster.

West seems to understand the offense much better at this point and can better manipulate the defense and make adjustments. There was clearly a reason they kept flipping the TE pre-snap. When the PR linebackers started run blitzing and flying downhill, West immediately went hard count, started running "HB around" plays and some wide tosses... PR linebackers had to sit and read and then West went back to hitting iso inside.

And finally, you're 100% right about this West team. They will fight you for every yard on both sides of the ball.

Bucks, I saw both teams earlier this year and thought Pennridge was significantly more talented (at least two scores better). Pennridge was extremely talented last year and I thought they drastically underperformed against Souderton. Gallagher is a heck of a coach and that was a major mismatch. West is squeezing close to every ounce of potential out of what they have, which is the true sign of how well coached a team is.

That was a shocking result... but then when you think about it, playing against a Gallagher team in your first year running the wing-t... that's a problem.

Then they almost got knocked off by another very well coached team, Quakertown and Coach Banas.

Two guys I wouldn't want to see come playoff time.
