Updated rankings for Week 6…

1. St. Joe’s Prep 3-1 (12)
2. Bishop McDevitt 3-1 (3)
3. Aliquippa 4-0 (7)
4. Imhotep Charter 2-2 (12)
5. Roman Catholic 4-1 (12)
6. Erie Cathedral Prep 3-2 (10)
7. Coatesville 5-0 (1)
8. Harrisburg 3-1 (3)
9. North Alleghany 5-0 (7)
10. Garnet Valley 5-0 (1)

Honorable Mention (no order): Exeter Twp. (3), Wyomissing (3), Emmaus (11), Cumberland Valley (3), Upper Dublin (1), Gateway (7), McKeesport (7)

I'd argue for Emmaus to crack the top 10 this week. I know Allentown Central Catholic is a 4A school, but they're probably a top 5 team in that classification and Emmaus absolutely beat the breaks off of them. I think that's their muscle flex as a team that (if they didn't have to play SJP in the first round of states) is as good as anybody else in 6A.

@RoverNation05 , I hear you on Emmaus. I was debating dropping Garnet out but they keep winning so it's hard to move them out. The only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is that D11 looks to be a little down this year in 6A. Parkland, Liberty, and Freedom are off to so-so starts and your squad looks like a shell of what it used to be. To date Emmaus' best win is over a 4A ACC or 4A Becahi

I think by the end of the year, the Freedom win will keep looking better and better. The problem with the starts of those teams is they’re all playing each other. Freedom has already played Nazareth, Parkland, and Emmaus. Parkland has played Nazareth, Central, Emmaus, and Freedom already, Nazareth has played Parkland and Freedom. Liberty stinks. But you get my point - the blessing and curse of the EPC is they usually have four or five good teams that cannibalize themselves behind one standout. I think we’re looking at a 12-0 Emmaus and a 10-2 Freedom as a D11 title game - I can’t quite figure Freedom losing to Parkland, but solidly beating Nazareth, who blew our Parkland and is the team id put in the Emmaus/Freedom/ACC tier here.

This is mostly for conversation, I think you’re doing good work and appreciate having something to follow each week. The one thing I know is you shouldn’t be ranking my Red Rovers.

That's the problem (playing each other) when you have a clump of 'good' teams, regardless if one is superior, definitely Harrisburg in 3, maybe G-Val in 1, staying with 6As.
It's like that in the SEC (both divisions) and also this year in the ACC. Makes for one interesting season when on any given night........
I think district-1 is that way as well with a pile of good/capable teams, perhaps no standouts. What compounds that in D-1 and 3 is their playing good teams from other conferences within their respective districts. It's that way in spades in 3 and I believe 1 more recently getting out and mixing it up with other conferences. Makes for some great football!

** Too bad 11 doesn't play fewer conference games so they can reach out to district 1 or 3. They could game #1. Seems D-10 is always looking for someone to play traveling to Ohio, New York, even Canada.

Garnet valley is no way a top 10 team this year. They are nothing compared to last year's juggernaut. They'll finish the regular season 9 -0 as the Central is pretty weak this year. Strath Haven looks pretty solid again but Garnet valley doesn't play them this year. But I don't see them beating either Downingtown team or Coatesville in the district one playoffs. They just don't have those special players this year. They do have 37 sophomores on the team this year who are pretty talented, so maybe a year or two away from another strong team.

McKeesport gotta be in top 10. Record is 5-0, better numbers for and against than Quippa, even has better wins that North Allegheny. The Port has wins against Belle Vernon (some had top 5 in state), Laurel Highlands (has stud rodney Galleger) and win against Penn Trafford (defending 5A champ). I'd put them in range of 5-8, they are averaging 3 points allowed per game, against solid competition. Actually Maxpreps (although not perfect for updated info) has them at #4. also, I don't know details, but their ranking has Garnet at 24 and Coatsville at 25

I take it CV will have to close school on that Thursday and Friday? Can't see school being in session with a state championship game being played on your campus.

CV had to be the lowest bidder. This is classic PIAA. What's next, moving the wrestling championships to CV's gym? (granted, CV's gym is as nice as one will find in a high school)

Appreciate the support and info on McKeesport. As I mentioned wk 1, I am not as familiar with WPIAL and western parts as I am with D1 (and parts of D3 w/family growing up in Steelton/Harrisburg areas). Simply looking at the rankings, do you feel McKeesport would beat the top 3 teams to put them at #4? That's kinda how I look at the rankings. This is all for the purpose of getting info on the top teams in the State so feel free to add your input.

Without much background, I think an argument could be made for them to be in the top 5-7, but I feel like Prep, McDevitt, and Quips are best so far this season. Imhotep & Cathedral Prep records are misleading due to playing difficult schedules. I think when the season ends, it will all shake out close to where it should & you'll see them in there somewhere.
