First let me say all my children have gone to public school but Wood and St.Joe's don't have to recruit the better players are seeking them out. The reason is really great coaching and a winning program plain and simple. Public schools will not and will never get rid of a under, achieving coach no matter how bad they are one is friendships in the teaching ranks and two politics inside the school boards. If the public's don't want to lose their players build a successful program and kids won't leave.

wake up.. so I'm guessing John reid chose wood over say Timber creek (accused of recruiting all the time) and made the trip from Mt. Laurel because of Devlin?

Also there's a little more to coaching at a public vs a private... $$$ public schools salaries have to be inline with public schools salaries.. for if they are a teacher they get a teachers salary plus the coaching pay.. etc.. if they have a staff position it's the same.. they answer to a far greater power then the non-public schools do... the union...

let's not even get into the program funding conversation... anyone who is very familiar Woods program knows (and says thank you) to an alum who is extremely rich (and actually is a very good person).. that does a large part of the funding..

Thank you for setting the record straight and you are correct @Thefan78.....as for @green_beans.... I know you don't know what you're talking about because you can't even get the schools and player names right genius, you're just a hater who's team sucks I will never make it to Hershey kiss my three rings Biach

wow.. you hurt my feelings... as for spelling.. you better get a clue : check the PSU roster???

Talk about an AX to grind, Grean beans, Why can't you enjoy your day....Why does some irrelevant old man care where a teenagers go to school...Will never understand that... Start recruiting your another QB...

BTW, Reid went to Prep...

Bucks.. you are 100 percent correct... a while back I said if I get involved in a recruiting conversation again.. for someone to kick me in the nuts.. thank you.. right on with reid (funny they missed it also). I';m trying to get ready for the Temple game today.. and shouldn't be bothered..

Have a great rest of the weekend.. go Owls....

Hey uptown vike , up yours, front running wood fan. Just like Whitehall coach said, all star team, that 100% recruits. Why do you get so sensitive when an old man calls it correctly . Go enjoy another of your uncontested state titles, puff your chest some more, so hard to win with that talent.

Thefan78: Your title "They don't have to recruit" is only half right. There are kids/parents who want to go to catholic/private schools. I have no problem with getting a great education. As a whole, the catholic church encourages priests to recruit kids to go to their local catholic schools. My sister-in-law is one of those who did (Prendie). But I don't think this is what you're referring to.
Do catholic school coaches recruit? Absolutely. No different than the priests. It's how the catholic schools survive and stay open. Football: back in the early 2000's, I coached in the Bert Bell league. Public school coaches weren't permitted to attend games (violations), but catholic school coaches could. This all happened before/ during/after the catholic schools joined the PIAA.
Public schools: I completely agree with what you're saying as far as the politics and underachieving coaches. But there are coaches who have a steady winning records in upper and lower classes. In the lower classes it doesn't matter if you're a great public school coach or not, if you don't have the bodies, you're going to struggle. The upper classes have more bodies to choice from. So, there are a few coaches/schools out there that are the exception. As far as kids leaving, common on, that's a loaded statement. How about people moving out due to economic reasons, health, work transfers, parents have girls not boys, concussion issues, etc. Many factors go into community evolution.

Listen the public school that my kids went to in general have not lost that many kids to the Catholic schools the reason why is the school academically is better but we have lost kids all that have started to the I will call them the big three Wood, St. JOES AND LA Sallie because quite honestly their football program is simply superior than ours. I know for a fact none of the young people that left were recruited and that's the truth. They went for superior coaching and football program.
