1 Pine Richland 6-0, D7; It must be a nightmare for opposing DCs seeing the Rams with an effective running game after Jordan Crawford rushed for 7-1st ½ Tds last week against Central Catholic (Central Catholic!) knowing Austin White is getting healthier each passing week. White is the West Allegheny transfer who rushed for 1313 yards last year, while Crawford (5-8, 175) is their lead back who carved up Central Catholic’s defense for172 yards on 20 carries. Adding that to Notre Dame recruit Phil Jurkovec makes for one scary team. Jurkovec was his usual self last week completing 11 of 15 passes (79%) for 145 yards. With an offense already averaging 47ppg, imagine what opposing defenses would have to deal with if White can be effectively incorporated into the offense. About the game; Coach Kasperowicz pulled starters at halftime holding a 47-3 lead as the Rams rolled 47-17. Peters Twp is next and believe it or not, it’s a revenge game with PT winning last year 32-27. They have an interesting Qb in Jake Cortes at 6-5, 230 pounds but too many under classman especially in the secondary where they start 2 sophomore cornerbacks. Soph CBs against Phil Jurkovec!?

2 State College 5-0, D6; State High pounded out another win last week overwhelming Carlisle 70-14. With a diverse attack they are scoring a ton of points, averaging 58 a game and playing a lot of people. Like Pine Richland, their games are over early, going into the half with a 42-7 lead in this one. Qb Tommy Friberg seems to improve exponentially, completing 10 of 14 passes for 188 yards and 4 Tds, most of which went to Brandon Clark, their 6-5 wide-out who snagged 5 tosses for 104 yards and 3 scores. By the end of the game the stats were overwhelmingly in favor of the Lions, 430 (210r-220p) to 182 for the Herd. The Lions are very physical and very athletic and will need every bit of that this Friday at Cumberland Valley. If CV came out of the meat grinder that was last week’s game against Central Dauphin, and I believe they did, this will equal last year’s battle won by State 20-16 in intensity and closeness. You might be able to hear the pads hitting in Pittsburgh in this one.

3 Central Dauphin 4-1, D3; Central Dauphin finally got the monkey off their back last week with the 20-14 win against nemesis Cumberland Valley. CV had won the previous 5 spanning 3 years by an average score of 18-13. As expected, nothing came easy in this one with the Rams defense holding off Eagle stud back and PSU recruit Charlie Katshir on a 4th and 2 from CD’s 4 with 90 seconds left on the clock. It looked like maybe 4 inches as they failed on their bread and butter off tackle (left) call that many find difficult to stop, despite running it all night. They got 294 yards (202r) but only 14 points, or, 20.85 yards per point. That’ll make any DC happy! Katshir was held to 32 rushing and 68 receiving on 4 catches. The Rams got 154 rushing and 130 passing with. FB Mike Wise-Belle (5-9, 235, sr) grinding out 80 yards on 18 carries. The demise of both CV and Central Catholic elevated the Rams to 3rd from 5th in the polls this week. Central Dauphin East (4-1) is next and what a bad week to play another rival. The Rams beat them 34-18 last year when they were a much younger group. Tough going from Cumberland Valley Week to Fight Night.

4 Cumberland Valley 4-1, D3; This week we get to see how CV comes back after a loss, their first of the season following last week’s bash with CD. That was really anyone’s game, ending on CD’s 2-yd line with time expiring in a 20-14 loss. Wow, quite a game. For this week you could think of a number of teams you’d rather play than undefeated State College (5-0) who is just flattening teams by an average score of 58 to 17. So this will be another physical encounter for the Eagles but they’re ready, having played quality teams and athletes with wins against Coatesville, McDevitt (quick as anyone!) and last week’s experience against Central Dauphin. The same cannot be said for State College who played teams with a combined won/loss of 9-17. The only winning team, Carlisle at 3-2 has faltered in the face of quality losing to CD 54-14 and State 70-14. Knowing the program and having followed them says it’s a heck of a game. So like last week’s CV-CD game, toss it up again!

5 Bethel Park 3-1, D7; Nice bounce back by the Black Hawks sucking it up after the 54-20 pounding administered by Pine Richland 2 weeks ago to just throttle Hempfield 55-21 last week. But then that’s what we’ve come to expect over the years from head coach Jeff Metheny (24th season) and company over the years. Running back Tanner Volpatti ran silly in this one, carrying it a mere 11 times but for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns! Qb Justin Sliwoski balanced it out with a modest but effect performance completing 13 of 29 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. A glance at the schedule says they could run out but being high school football, don’t bet on it especially with Seneca Valley next. SV won last year 25-21 and it’d probably be a bad idea to focus on their 1-4 record with a 5-pt loss at Peters Twp and a 8-pt loss at Central Catholic. The big guy Gabe Lawson needs to play well under center for any chance but Bethel should handle this young team that won’t back down.

Boy, District 3 seems to be up for grabs with CV, CD, Wilson, and Manheim Twp. all being capable of beating each other. Is State College in District 3? I thought they played in the Mid-Penn?

SC is in D6 and the district is up for grabs for sure! CD beat Wilson and CV….with Manheim Township beating CD. The great thing about it is it will be settled on the field with CD, SC, CV and Harrisburg (5A) all playing each other in MP-Commonwealth action.

In the Lancaster Lebanon League Sec-1, Wilson and Manheim play in 2 weeks. What a great district for football and that’s just 6A!

Stalk -

You're very generous with CD - not that I mind (closet Ram fan -- or maybe not really in the closet with my "second position" affinity for them just behind my beloved and sainted 'Skins).

Big win over CV last weekend!!!

And this P-R is a juggernaut this season.
