St. Joe-La salle

Here we go!! Comments, suggestions!!?? The only thing I'm sure of about this one is lunch and dinner at The Beef and Ale!!
That's a great way to start and end a football Saturday afternoon. Over the years I bet I have done at least the lunch part 50 times. If my health holds on I will be there to take part in the beef and what we all hope to be a super PCL game. Prep by 7.

I expect the Prep to win a close game.

Anyone with an injury report for both teams?

This game could go a lot of ways. A blowout for the Prep. A close one with Prep winning. A close one with La Salle winning. The only way it won't go is a blowout for La Salle. I'll go with Prep 24-10.

Prep (-) 28.5

St. John de Baptist resurrected at half-time during seance vigil begging for mercy and the 2nd coming.

Swift stat-line:
3 carries.... 72 yds, 1 TD, long 65 yds
1 rec.... 72 yds, 1 TD
he releases another personal video, first broadcast post-game. Again, no mention or visualization of SJP during the 2 minute infomercial. Many think done in honor of Bennie Walls' high school diploma.

M. O'toole gets disoriented during 3rd quarter, found wandering on Prep sideline muttering "boys will be boys, but LaSalle boys will be gentlemen", taken immediately to Einstein Montgomery for full neuro-vascular work-up.

Drew Gordon seen meandering aimlessly over LS far corner end-zone area, caught on videotape spouting "why wouldn't they give me what Gabe got, I'd still be King"!!

Rev. Burr re-surfaces and attempts coup at halftime in Prep stands, insisting he will re-attempt to control and limit the football team's dominant influence at 17th & Girard with regard to the school's discretionary expenditures. He was last seen taken from stands in shackles and leg irons by the Prep Politburo. As he was hastily ushered away, last words heard: "I didn't mean it, just kidding folks".

I think the new PCL setup makes this game different than in the past. In the past everyone knew that the playoff game decided the PCL Champ and the first game meant little. In the past it felt like LS would not show everything. Now this game goes a long way in deciding the pcl champ. SJP victory and they are PCL champs for all intents. All in all SJP victory comfortably if swift plays a lot. 28-10. If little Swift....17-10

Not so certain I see this one being close. Despite some big wins, LS has shown some troubling weaknesses and inconsistencies. Prep has some very good speed on offense, and that's going to challenge LS when it comes to defending against end runs and long passes. LS will need to find a way to seal the ends on running plays while effectively pressure the QB in passing situations. LS's QB needs to show more confidence and pull the trigger when opportunity presents itself, while the OL has to open more holes for Madden and Quiles. Has Swift been saved for what has, for many weeks, been the big game on Prep's schedule? I'm betting he will play a major role, and that Prep's going to roll 35-13.

How so?

There is still a 4-team playoff at the 6A level. Just like in recent years.

I have a funny feeling LaSalle is going to sneak one on them. If you can call it that. St. Joe's is the more talented team but after a tough opening slate they seem to have let off the gas a little. Just a feeling I have. I'll say...29-28 again, LaSalle goes for 2 to win it. The real question will be how St. Joe's reacts if they do lose. Could it be the reawakening of the force?

I don't have a horse in this race.. but will go with the underdog.. I'm hoping my streak of being wrong every time I took them this year will change

Huck, this is different I think because this game is for the PCL, and the playoffs is for districts. So you can win PCL and not make states if you are LS or Prep (or Wood..not likely). NP your logic that prep has taken foot of the gas could apply to NP too. This is the time of the year when all the favorites can be accused of that. Don't buy the hype. This game ain't close folks. Never bet with your heart.

This game will have a huge impact on getting that PCL hubcap. The next game keeps you moving towards that state title. I think Steinmetz, being a LS/PCL grad is more focused on that hubcap. When the regular season game meant nothing, LS didn't show much and kept close to the vest until the playoff game (which won the PCL). That may not happen this time. Infante's ultimate goal is those state titles...not a PCL guy, more of a national program guy. So, he might play this one close to ensure he wins the next one. .

That is a great way to look at this game! As Artie Johnson used to say "Very Interesting!"

If either SJP or LaSalle wins the PCL Red but loses in the playoffs the fact that they are PCL Red champs won't provide much consolation.

I would agree with you Tulla only this year is a little different. This year if La Salle takes the Hubcap, I think everything else would be playing with house money. That is not the case for St. Joe. Nothing less than a State Championship would do.

If Madden runs harder then he has been the last 2 weeks an they don't turn the ball over they might have a shot. LaSalle gets up for these games so who knows what will happen Stein/Gordon will have them ready that's for sure. Alot of people are not aware of how young they are, 2/3 Srs on D, 2/3 Srs on O and there Missing Jones a JR. My opinion next years LaSalle team is going to be very very good. Tons of Soph talent and a Freshman who will be the best LB in the area in 2 yrs (my opinion)

Paul, I'm curious. Do you really think LaSalle would be OK with winning on Saturday and losing to SJP in the playoffs?

Of course you always want to win and in La Salle's case, always against St. Joe. But the way this season started and has progressed, yes I think they'll take the Hubcap. The way this season has gone, it looks as though Gordon doesn't have the weapons he needs to open up his offense. It's been very vanilla. I'd like to know how many carries Madden has had compared to other Gordon teams with a full compliment of players. They are a very young team and losing the QB to the freak injury was brutal. But back to your scenario, there's no guarantee they will meet in the playoffs. If they play Roman again before Prep....? I'll take the Hubcap and play with house money the rest of the way.

Lasalle have to get their passing game right by Saturday. I don't think they'll win by not going to the air. They have a good WR core they didn't utilize last week. SJP will take away something if they come in one dimensional. A healthy balanced offense will keep them honest.

How much Swift can play and be involved--other than as a decoy--will make a difference in several ways. One of them: when Swift's fit, McCray has much more scope to run. That was certainly the case in the first two games.

Maybe Rick will do some Periscope during the game.
I agree with Roxy that the WSJP service is good to have, but, understandably, the announcers do a bit of rooting and sometimes are a little slow about keeping listeners aware of the score, time remaining, and actual game situation.

Well, let's recap..

Prediction of point differential: Vegas Vick eats my dust!

Swift stat-line: accurate, but omitted last 40 minutes of playing time.

M.O. and Rev. Burr.... both home, doing well.

PCL 6A final (if played).... you never know?? circa 2006 & 2015 etched as reminders.

There are unpublished reports that Harvey Updyke was wandering around Prep's campus today..
