Im a PSU fan, love the fact that this kid is on board to play for the Nittany Lions. Now, i know hes signed on to be an OLinemen, but after watching him again last night, i cant belp but think that he should at least give the DLine a try. He was everywhere on D last night. Highly disruptive. Chasing guys down downfield. Nonstop motor. Really really like this kid and i think he has a bright future. In a game with alot of individual stars, i thought he was the best player on the field

agree he is very good but Whitehead is the best player on the field. He could start as a true freshman.

Shoe,

You're right, those 46 yards on 12 carriers by Whitehead were unbelievable numbers!
Clearly the best player on the field?

Here are some other numbers

McClenton 229 on 27 totes

Arcangeli 128 on 15

He will play DB, special teams. When Whitehead picked up McClenton twice you saw a division I player. Wood receivers also didn't look to good going over the middle. He,s a hitter.

Bates was outstanding on both side of the ball. Numbers may not have shown it but Whitehead will have a wonderful college career.

Kudos to Central Valley-they scrapped all night. Wood's lines just wore them down. Until the final 4 minutes a great high school game. Hopefully today's games maintain the excitement and are close, competitive games.

First they play different positions. Bates would never be able to be a DB/RB any more than Whitehead would be able to play OL/DL.

Whitehead is a wonderful player but Bates was BY FAR the most impactful player on that field in Hershey last night. He controlled the offensive LOS opening gaping holes for McClenton, Arcangeli and anyone else with a "W" on their helmet. When they needed to run a QB sneak, they slide Bates to G. There were holes a small pickup would have gone through untouched. On defense Bates was constantly disrupting CV at the LOS. Whitehead was just not that impactful last night.

Whitehead will play right away for 2 reasons, the position he plays and the school he chooses. FBS OL take at least 2 years to be ready unless your a Bill Fralic or Orlando Pace type.

Division I players seldom go head to head in HS, so you look for other things that they can do. You also imply PSU is better then Pitt. Both finished .500. I saw a number of PS games and they played not to lose, their OL sucked.

I am a PSU fan but I imply nothing of the sort. Lets face it, PSU and Pitt both stank this year. Bates and Whitehead play different positions. I'm simply saying OL takes more "curing" time than DB. OL need a couple years in a college weight room and to learn/refine technique in what is probably a much more intricate system than they played in HS. They're not just road-grading like they did in HS.

I think Whitehead would see the field as a freshman at either PSU and Pitt. I'd personally love to see him in Blue and White next year.

Not to say that Ryan Bates couldn't play DL, but he is far better on the OL and that is where PSU has more of a need.
