Yesterday, it was announced that Rob Melosky has accepted the head coaching job at Pocono Mountain East. Melosky was most recently the offensive coordinator at Allentown Central Catholic, and of course, won a state title as the head coach at Parkland in 2002. He also won a D11 title at Nazareth in 2011.

It's an interesting move, Melosky is no doubt one of the best football minds in this part of the state. PME has only won 6 games in 5 years, so it is a huge project. Pocono Mountain had a strong program in the late 1980s, and 1,000 yard rushers Roger Staub and Sherman Chiles led them to a D11 title in 1988, the only one in school history. Pocono Mountain split into east and west in 2003.

I wouldn't think he would take the job without thinking there was something he pups build there, but this will be far and away the biggest challenge of his career.

Must be some choice land up there with a program whose last winning season was 2003. 35-97 since then! Big loss for the Lehigh Valley.

It's an interesting move. I get him wanting to be a head coach again (though he's had recent health issues) and I'm assuming if he takes the job he thinks he can win. But there isn't a lot of a football foundation there. It's also the smallest high school the East in 6A (and only Penn Hills, CD East, Peters Township, and Shaler are smaller state wide).

What's interesting about the Pocono Mountain schools is that it's been a worst case scenario of over estimating population changes. The area had a pretty major population surge, along with just about everywhere else, in the late '90s through the mid part of the last decade. The district was worried about overcrowding and split into two high schools to help cure the problem. But as population trends have gone down nationally, as well as in the Pocono Mountain area, both schools are now operating at well less than full capacity and there is talk of closing one and going back to just one high school. Definitely a cautionary tale for the "this school is too big, split it up" reactionary crowd.

No disrespect but it's almost like they're trying to lose up there. Very odd neither school since 02 (the split) had success..with only 3 winning seasons combined....and a total won/loss of 93-218, 29.9%.
PM East 43-111 26.6%
PM West 50-107 31.8 %

Maybe Coach Melosky can light a fire.

There are over $100,000 reasons to take the job. It is not just a football coaching job.

Ha, ha....sounds like a good reason to me. The economy of the area likely take that to 120+

I saw after I posted this that they're hiring him as the Athletic Director for the entire school district (East and West). Makes more sense now with the huge leap in responsibility (and pay).

He still has to drive to Swiftwater/Tannersville every day...

Used to hang at the Tannersville Inn chasing East Stroudsburg honeys living with my sister in Bartonsville going to college. Managed to catch a few (!) and Genny Cream Ale ruled!
