Some thoughts from both head coaches of Pine Richland and St. Joseph's Prep
QUAD A- St. Joseph's Prep vs. Pine-Richland[/B]
St. Joseph's Prep: Gabe Infante[/B]
On how this year's team compares to last year's team :[/B]"Well, we talk the players about our team having a life-expectancy of one year. It takes time to develop team chemistry and every team has its own identity. Our off-season program helps our team to jell together. There are some similarities that are both good and bad compared to last year's team, but we feel that every team is unique."
On how his team overcame the early season losses (they started the season 1-2):[/B]We played a lot of good competition in the beginning of the season. Nothing against them, but we're a now a totally different team. No team stays the same from beginning to end. Those games were very beneficial to us. You learn a lot about your team. Those games you lose become teachable moments. It's always a process of getting where we can be as a team."
Thoughts on Pine-Richland[/B]: They're everything as advertised. Everything they do is sound , they execute well, and they play with great emotion. They are bigger than we are in a lot of positions. Hopefully, the experience that the kids have gotten this year will help us out. We have our work cut out for us. They really keep you honest with their screen and running games."
On Pine-Richland quarterback Ben DiNucci:[/B]DiNucci is really fun to watch. I love the way he throws and how he keeps his poise. He seems like he's real cool under pressure. I know he's going to Penn (University of Pennsylvania), but I'm not sure why he wasn't recruited higher than Division I-AA."
On his highly recruited sophomore running back D'Andre Swift playing more defense this year[/B]:"We preach being able to play with depth on our team. Swift is a very dynamic athlete and he does a lot of things for us. He returns kicks, runs the football, and plays defensive back. We knew when he came in as a freshman that he could play defense as well as run the ball. For our young guys, we try to limit them playing both ways during their first two years. Once they get more comfortable, we then let them play more.
On whether or not Penn State commit John Reid's availability for this week. Reid suffered a leg injury a few weeks ago:[/B]I am not able to comment on the nature of his condition. John is doing well and is in good spirits.
Pine-Richland: Eric Kasperowicz[/B]
On the type of offense he runs and their offensive line:[/B] We run a no-huddle, up-tempo, spread-offense. We like to both pass and run the ball effectively. We have great players all-around, including a very good offensive line. We have three seniors (John Kohley, Jacob Good, and Matt Pickels)that anchor the offensive line. We're going to need a big game from them if we're going to have a chance to win."
On what they'll need to do to combat St. Joe's Prep's team speed:[/B]There's not much that we need to do differently. They are the most talented team we've played all year. We've played Central Catholic twice, but (St. Joseph's) Prep is a different animal. We'll have to play a great game to keep it close with them."
On his team's defense:[/B]: Joe Lieberman has stepped for us a lot during the playoffs. Mike Merhaut and Brandon Burnham are great leaders from the safety position and always gets us into the right coverage. Our team is looking forward to the challenge.
