What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“Our team has a strength and conditioning program throughout the summer that I attend. I stay afterwards for a few hours to work out on my own and also lift in my basement or the field house on the days off.”
What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“Strength and footwork. I'm benching 330 pounds now and did 17 reps of 225 pounds recently. My goal is to keep getting bigger and stronger but move like a smaller guy.”
What are you trying to improve on before the football season begins?
“Using my legs more to explode off the line.”
How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“Better than last season and a playoff run. Our coaches are doing a good job in preparing us. Our O-Line is all coming back, and we have a really good QB in Jack Salopek who is going to Western Michigan.”
Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“The team I play that week is always my toughest competition. I don't underestimate any team in 6A.”
Who is your opponent in the season opener and how do you feel about them overall?
“In Week 0, it is Penn Trafford that is our nearby rival so that's always a fun game. In Week 1 of conference play it is North Allegheny. They have been a top program for a long time with a lot of great players. We also played the same kids when we were in ninth grade and won, so we have a lot of respect for their program, but we aren't intimidated.”
Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, football.”
What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I'll know more after September when I start my junior year and coaches can reach out. I've been introduced to several coaches at my school such as Cincinnati, Akron, UMass, and Bowling Green. I met the Dartmouth coach recently and he talked to my family for a while. Several coaches also follow me on Twitter, including Ohio State.”
Have you made any college trips yet?
“Outside of camps, not really. My cousin Jimmy Giansante was the starting receiver for New Hampshire a few years ago, so I've gone to different colleges to see him play such as Toledo, Towson, Lehigh, and UNH. UNH has a really nice campus and I thought Lehigh's stadium was pretty cool.”
Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“I'd like to go to some games during the season and be invited to stand on the field.”
What camps did you do this summer and how did they go?
“I attended Pitt and Penn State. I have plans to attend Robert Morris and Kent State later in July. The camps I have gone to I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. Coaches see me as an interior guard or center.”
Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“If I had to pick one, it would be Pitt.”
