PV 43 vs Pottsgrove 26 FINAL

Perk Valley was battle tested all year against much better competition. Not really much of a surprise. PV has emerged as one of the better programs in D1 over the past several years.

what surprised me is my nephew goes to PV and he said they lost many to grad last yr and didn't think they would be good. I guess we'll see how they fair in the playoffs.

I was at that game. What PV did was play mistake free football and force LOTS of turnovers (5)...very opportunistic...and good ST play. Complementary football. 4A Pottsgrove's OL and DL physically manhandled PV's. PG must have had 330+ yards rushing. PV did not run the ball...at all. But they did have 2 long pass plays which was essentially the extent of PV's offense.

PV scored on a:

-a Kickoff return to open the game
-pick-6 (PG QB threw 3 INTs). IIRC the Pick-6 was a dagger as PG was in the RZ.
-fumble-6 (Faison coughed it up twice...PV did a very good job ball hawking)
-long pass play in the 4Q where PG had them at 4th and infinity. PV's QB scrambled and found the 1 kid PG forgot about.

PV also did a really good job of keeping Faison in front of them. They must have had at least 3 "shoelace/ankle" tackles where if they missed, it would have been a long TD run. He still had 218 yards and 3 TDs. But his fumbles were HUGE.

I don't understand why PG passed when they did. If you look at their stats in the local paper they throw probably 5 times per game. I mean I guess the situation dictated it. But on almost every play they were rushing for 5-8 yards per clip. They even tried a fade pass when they went for 2. PG does have big athletic WRs. But when you can get 5 yards almost at will, why pass it? They did not need to pass to set up the run. PG ran seemingly at will.

I'm no expert but if 4A PG could run on PV like that, I don't seem the doing much in the 6A playoffs. As far as Pottsgrove, to Relayer's point they've hardly played a tight game this year. I don't think their players understood what happened to them.

6A playoffs are ALL about matchups. You can throw seedlings out the window for top 8+ teams. PV matches up very well against certain teams. Others not so much.... it depends who they get and I wouldn’t bet against them.

Exactly right. It is about match ups.

Pt: The number of times Haven has played PG, Pennypacker has always had a running game. Last time Haven played them in 2010, I believe they only passed 5 or 6 times. Once in the first half and the others in the 4th qtr when they were getting desparate.

PG's always been that way (5 passes/game) as far as I remember. Was the running game effective against Haven? I don't know. I wasn't there. Last night they were running almost at will.

PT: Here are the stats for Pottsgrove 2010 yearly and the game.

Yearly- Between Terrell Chestnut (QB), Kayvon Green (FB), and Maika Polamalu (HB) all D1 prospects (54) TD's for 3687 yds. Team avg scoring 39pts/ game and 333.7 avg. yards/game.

2010 game against Haven
Terrell Chestnut- 16 carries for 120 yds
Maika Polamalu- 6 carries for 31 yds (Averaged 132.5 yds/game during the season)
Kayvon Green- 19 carries for 87 yds (19 TD's for 1246 yds during the season)
NOTE: I don't remember PG completing more than 1 pass. I'd have to watch the game tape.

Haven held PG to 238 yds for the game, approx. 100 yds less than their avg.

Haven totaled 462 yds with 359 yds rushing.

Final score was 42-28.

Wasn't that Archbishop Wood? Anyway, based on those stats, that's what I'm saying. When PG played that 2010 game the opponent slowed PG's running game forcing PG to pass. PV in no way stopped PGs running game yesterday...other than the 2 fumbles they caused.
