Since we were unable as a group this year to put together a pick section, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to who would win tonight as we rush toward the playoffs. Emmaus, Whitehall have big games tonight. Im sure there are huge games in the West. Haverford High squares off against Marple. Can Downingtown East bounce back against Shanahan? The battle of Wing T offenses in West Chester tonight. The Inter-Ac season kicks off today. The Catholic League is always a hot topic. What do people think? Where are you going tonight?

I'll be at Shanahan watching my alma mater host my daughters school DEast. East is going to be pretty damn angry after that beating they took from Coatesville. Hope Coach Meyers has his team ready. The DWest at Henderson could be the best game tonight as teams seem evenly matched.

Can you break down all of the Chesmont League action for us tonight Chesmont? How do these games play out?

I haven't seen every team but based on what I know:

Coatesville at Avon Grove - Mercy rule by halftime at latest (possibly by end of 1st qtr). I first saw Coatesville in 1973 shortly after we moved to Chester Co. This team has the makings of the best offensive team (even better than State Championship loss team) I've ever seen in th Ville. Billy Joe, Abel Joe, Sherman Meyers, Mark McWilliams (white lighting and Chesmont sprinter champ in 82, CJ Gray and Daquan Worley move over for Aaron Young.

DEast at Shanahan - Shanahan almost let one slip away at Oxford and got smoked but DWest the week before. DEast was embarrassed last week. I think DEast pulls away at end winning 24-14. Shanahan has been known to knock off a league heavyweight almost every year so it needs to be considered.

DWest at Henderson - The Whippets are struggling for playoff lives. Based on past 5 years or so th Warriors record drops the second half of the season with a tougher schedule. Pretty evenly matched game but I'll take Whippets 24-21. Henderson i believe has already qualified for 5A playoffs.

WC East at Sun Valley - Nice turn around by SV as they are 6-1 but sorry Delco you lost to the only difficult team on your schedule in Great Valley. WC East is a step up and they win 28-14.

Unionville at Kennett - Another team.. Blue Demons who have turned it around and have built a decent foundation. Same deal as the previous game above, You are going against a very good coach and Ridley pride in Coach Pat Clark. The U takes it here 31-14.

Octorara at Rustin - Braves are going to be massacred by The Golden Knights. Octorara .. you are in a hard league but keep pushing. You are starting to get some decent players (not a full roster of decent yet though) year in and out. The Little Braves youth football started a few years back in farm country is starting to pay off. 35-7

Oxford at Great Valley - Saturday afternoon. Coach Ellis is one of th better ones out here and the Patriots will break out of the funk and win 35-14.

ChestmontLeague1...........respect and enjoy reading almost all your post and thoughts....but while Mark McWilliams was very fast, he had 1 problem, and that was the ground wanted the ball more than him. That same year, his running mate was Ray Holmes and he was bitten with the same affliction. Not trying to start anything with you, but to put him up with some of the names you mentioned....just had to point that out.

Comments are welcomed Cville. I think you may have meant to say Randy Holmes! Let's remove those 2 dudes and insert terrific athlete Arthur "Stretch" Tooles who played both QB and found further stardom playing guard on that great 82 basketball team (went on to play at Siena!)

Thank you for the nice reply, I didn't want to start crap with a fellow
Chestmont dude.....but, no, it was Ray, Randy was a couple years later. As for Stretch, he was a off the bench Junior on the 81 B-ball team that SHOULD have beaten a mostly white, but DAM gritty Springfield Delco team that lost to Uniontown team in the finals. That was Butch Hills team with Tony Joseph and Ben at center, and a bunch of Juniors as a support cast! Tooles got the QB job after Ed Kovatch went down.

Thinking about it a tad more, and another glass of wine...I think the starting 5 were guards were Hills, Tooles, forwards Joeseph and Anthony Smith and Ben at center. I STILL grunge at the memory of them losing at Ursinus to Springfield Delco!!!! SP hat one gritty white center who made a great last second put back! scarred forever I am!!!
