PIAA State Brackets have been released for 2016 & 2017

In 6A, District 11 will have eight playoff spots for 13 teams. This is dumb. Pretty confident Allen, Dieruff, Northampton, Pocono Mountain East, and Pocono Mountain West will be the five not getting in for the foreseeable future. I just saved us ten weeks of games.

Why not a four team playoff with a bye weekend? One less game for guys to get hurt/week to recover before a state run, and helps make the regular season actually mean something.

Also, looks like the shift is D2 and D4 getting shipped to the western half. When I think western Pa I think Scranton.

In looking closer, they really have watered down the playoffs. In D6, 16 of 19 single A schools qualify, and D11 gets 8 of 11 AAA schools in the playoffs. There are many examples like these.

The problem is, schools are not distributed geographically in a way that lends itself to a six class system. You could paper over it at four, but now it's just spread too thin.

To really make this work, I think the PIAA needs to completely redraw it's District boundaries, and they probably need to be different at each of the six levels. Just dividing up counties just doesn't work.

Relayer,
Like I bore assed weeks ago (and others)....Right!....we're becoming New Jersey and Cali. The 6 class format was a problem from the beginning and as we've mentioned more than a few times, the entire concept of east vs west and the districts need re-thought.

The PIAA need to think outside the box, if they can ever realize they're in one. They're trying to look good in a suit that doesn't fit.
