They have a tough first round game with Parkland. Trojans are 21-4, won the EPC and were the top seed in the D11 tournament. They'll probably start Adam Smith, a junior who is getting Division I attention and was the EPC pitcher of the year.

Parkland got upset by Freedom in the D11 final. The Patriots were the 7 seed, but rode a pair of aces (Alec Huertas is a D1 signee to LIU and was a 1,000 yard receiver in the fall and Tim Healy had a sub 3.00 era as a junior, but, missed the entire regular season but returned for the postseason) to go through top two seeds Easton and Parkland (combined 41-6) for their first title since 1999. They could get LaSalle in round 2

As we see in many sports with the brackets, it isn't always a bad thing finishing runner-up in district play. CRN appears to have the much easier first round game against D12 runner-up Frankford. They lost 19-0 to LaSalle in the D12 final.

It still amazes me how screwed up D12 is. The PCL only gets one team in because they continue to insist the PUB is relevant and will be the annual sacrificial lamb in state playoffs as a 2 seed.

Here are the D12 final scores, what a joke!

DISTRICT 12 CLASS 3A FINAL Conwell-Egan 8, String Theory 0
DISTRICT 12 CLASS 4A FINAL Bonner-Prendergast 13, Esperanza 0
DISTRICT 12 CLASS 5A FINAL Archbishop Carroll 15, Boys' Latin 0
DISTRICT 12 CLASS 6A FINAL La Salle 19, Frankford 0

Isn't the easy fix in D12 just to do a true bracket in the district tournament rather than run public and private as two separate tournaments until the final? Use power points and truly seed 1-8 or 1-16 and let the chips fall.

For some reason, D12 insists on keeping the PUB relevant. It's not 1975 anymore. The system has been flawed since the PCL became PIAA members.

Bensalem defeated Parkland 1-0 on a 3 hit shutout from Steve Aldrich.

Both D11 teams lost 1-0 games. Sounds like Adam Smith from Parkland also threw really well in that one.

In the Freedom game, Alec Huertas lost a 1-0 pitchers dual with Red Lion's Tyler Burchett. Huertas struck out 10 and gave up 4 hits, but gave up a run on a wild pitch. Burkett, a Kentucky committ who will get drafted tomorrow or Wednesday, fanned 7 and gave up 5 hits in the shutout.

I do not like the single elimination format for the state tournament. Baseball is so reliant on starting pitchers, I think a double elimination format, similar to the college gane, or even how Legion playoffs run, would be a better way to get a state champion.

Rover you are 100% correct, as much as the PCL usually get a break in football with the pub teams (easy playoff week in football, makes a difference), the PCL baseball teams get screwed when only one PCL team can go per class, usually a couple talented teams in the PCL more crowded 6a and 5a. Such is life, have to be top dog to move on.

Hate to pile on with our theme here, but the scores from the first round of baseball and softball were not pretty for the PUB.

Baseball

CRN 11 Frankford 1
Marple Newtown 12 Boys Latin 1
Berks Catholic 12 Nueva Esperanza Charter 2
Lancaster Catholic 16 String Theory Charter 1
Faith Christian 8 GAMP 2

Softball

Interboro 7 String Theory Charter 0
West Perry 17 Benjamin Rush 0
Springfield (Montco) 6 Masterman 0
North Schuylkill 20 Swenson 0
Minersville 13 Phila Academy Charter 0

Relayer why your overall point is correct, Frankford would be the outlier compared to the other pub representatives. They beat SJP just last year in the city championship game and won a game or two at states. They have five or six state playoff wins in the past seven or eight years. But yes overall pub baseball is not nearly good enough compared to other districts state representatives.

It was a good day for SE PA.

6A
LaSalle 13 Red Lion 0
Bensalem 6 Williamsport 0
CR-North 10 Cumberland Valley 1

State semi-finals on Monday:
Bensalem vs LaSalle
CRN vs Canon-McMillan

5A
Arch Carroll 7 Cedar Cliff 2
Marple-Newtown 6 Mars 1

On Monday:
Carroll vs Lower Dauphin
MN vs West Allegheny

Congrats to Marple-Newtown winning the 5A championship tonight over Lower Dauphin 2-1 in 10 innings. That kid crushed the ball off the fence to win it in the bottom of the 10th. Good luck to Bensalem tomorrow.

I guess it wasn't meant to be for Bensalem. Ace pitcher Nicholas Dean (MD recruit) left after 1 inning with back soreness. Canon-Mac broke open a 3-3 tie with 7 in the 5th inning to win 10-3.
