Until they recruit and develop NFL-caliber offensive linemen, this team will never compete for a CFP spot.

A couple things stand out to me.

#1 Why wasn't Will Levis used more before transferring to Kentucky. He's obviously skilled, completing 66% (233/353) for 2826 yds and 24 Tds, 13 picks. Rushed for 376 yards getting 9 more Tds. Has at least a year left; is coming back for 2022. Good enough to start in SEC but not Penn State?

#2 To your point d1football1, the way Georgia demolished what was purported to be a strong Michigan team is an eye opener when assessing PSU in the Big 10 hierarchy and national scene.

#3 With half the family from the South and some knowledge of SEC football, it's puzzling (comical in some circles) why any Power-5 team would go to Vanderbilt for their next coach.

I’m no Penn State guy, but here’s the answer to #3. Vanderbilt has finished .500 or better in the SEC four times since 1955 - two times in Franklin’s three years, and twice in the other 62 years. Going through their history, Vandy wins about 32 games a decade. Franklin won 24 in three years. Honestly, going 9-4 twice at Vandy might be the most impressive coaching achievement of the last decade. And he’s a Neshaminy native, the hire made 100% sense.

I’m surprised Franklin stayed at Penn State through this hiring cycle - I actually think it would just be better for both sides if they parted ways.

I’ll be interested to see how quickly Drew Allar sees the field. He’s a five star quarterback, a top 30 player in the country and the #4 QB. He’s rated higher than the commits for LSU, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Penn State has been waiting for a quarterback - here he is.

Pennsylvania had 10 top 300 players this cycle - Franklin got six of them. Enai White continues a dubious streak of not getting the top in state player (he’s only done that with Micah Parsons and Miles Sanders), but Nick Singleton, Drew Shelton, and Mekhi Flowers are certainly guys who everybody in the country wanted. Now, he utterly failed in keeping in state guys home in the last couple years, but I think this class can buy him some equity.

If you’re firing Franklin, who is the guy you’d want to succeed him? I’m assuming since Fickell didn’t jump for ND, he wouldn’t be that interested in Penn State either. Dan Mullen?

That is the greatest attempt at putting lipstick on a goat I have ever seen. What did Georgia do to Michigan. Now what has Penn State ever done to Michigan. That's how far you have to go. Unless 7-5 and an Outback Bowl loss is what you want!!

Honestly, what I’d like is for Penn State to go 3-9 every year. But 7-5 Outback Bowl I guess is fine.

I’ll reask my last question - who should they hire?

He's been there for what, 7-8 years with NOTHING to show for it. The bar is not so high for a new hire. Pick anyone! Go out and pull a "Notre Dame" and hire a High School coach. (Gabe Infante) Anything to shake things up. The AAC has a bunch of high powered offensive teams, rob from the Big 10 (Fleck from Minnesota), go out and offer Urban a job. Anything!!!

Rover, why would you like Penn State to go 3-9 every year?

I’m an Ohio State alum, as is my dad (who was a GA for Earle Bruce) and my grandfather (who was a season ticket holder from returning from WWII though his death).
Well there you go! I kid about Buckeyes often (since Big-33 days) but with admiration back to Coach Hayes days.

My only intimate connections to college ball are a 1st cousin at UGA, his dad at Tulane and a classmate's husband HC at Wake Forest. The one that got away!
