PCL and cancelling JV games

Last week Ryan cancelled on LaSalle and this week Judge cancelled on LaSalle.
About 2 hours prior to kickoff Friday night, Carroll cancelled on Roman for JV. The reason given, numbers.
I find that a little odd given the fact that Carroll had at least 50 kids suited up for the game Friday night.
It's one thing if you legitimately don't have the numbers(Ryan) but no reason to simply cancel the JV game because you aren't competitive on that level.
There is a good chance that these teams were aware that they would not be playing the JV game prior to Friday night. If they notify their opponents ahead of time, they at least have an opportunity to get another game scheduled.
At the end of the day the kids are the ones who are being robbed.

This seems to be rampant this year in many leauges in many sports. Ive hear many stories of girls JV soccer teams' or filed hockey etc showing up and the home team sending them back home as they do not have enough players to filed a team. You would think if numbers are a problem-in any sport-that they should know well in advance of game time that the game is not going to take place.

This is very interesting and speaks to the lack of broad participation in sports that eventually will force more schools to follow the lead of Springfield (MontCo) and shut down programs.

Unfortunate ... If I recall, freshman games were Friday's while JV games were Monday's. I'm not sure what the rules are now, but back in the day, there were similar issues and frankly, varsity players would suite up to make numbers and competitive JV games, especially is they lost the varsity game. Obviously, injuries are to be considered and the heightened awareness of concussions is good, but I wonder if it would be practical or beneficial to do the same today so games aren't cancelled. That's got to be disheartening and incredibly frustrating for lasalle and i suspect the same result may occur with SJP or others.

I find it very troubling that FJ would cancel their JV game vs LaSalle today. It just furthers my point on another thread about the current state of FJ Football. JV Football used to be a staple on Monday afternoon at Ramp playground across the street from the school. And not that long ago before the turf and renovation, Ramp was a complete dust bowl without a blade of grass growing.

A couple of years ago the morning call in Allentown had an article about 2a & 3a teams in the valley no longer able to field JV teams. They are small schools, but those schools with 500 plus males should have no problem getting 50-60 out for football and fielding a JV team. Attendance at pro & college games are Hugh, but I guess males have become spectators.

It sucks for the kids that work there butts off that don't get to dress Varsity on the weekends an look forward to the Monday JV Game. Ryan & Judge back to back weeks cancelled vs La Salle. That's unacceptable. Carroll cant field a JV team, NG cant field a JV Team. Its just really sad. I'm scared to see what the PCL will be in 5 years.

Odd to hear that about Carroll. They fielded a JV team to play SJP last week, and their freshman team played (and beat) LS the week before. Maybe they've moved kids up to varsity to gain experience and bolster the future? Maybe the same at FJ/Ryan also? I agree with TDjones22 - sucks for kids that work all week (on both teams) and then get the rug pulled out from under them come game day. Sad state of affairs...

Not allowed to pull kids up from freshman after they have played a freshman game. My point was Carroll clearly had the numbers. From what I hear, they aren't very competitive on the JV level.
I know they have a good freshman team. They cancelled the JV game with Roman due to numbers but made it a point to RESCHEDULE their freshman game against the Prep.
Seems like they pick and choose who they want to play on the 2 lower levels of football.

If your suiting up 50+ kids for Varsity , how can you not have a JV team. The general rule of thumb is any non senior can play the equivalent of 4 quarters of football a week, and it's loosely enforced So if a junior plays less than half of the Varsity game on Friday , he can comeback and play the remaining half + on Monday. There is no way 50 kids are getting that much playing time on a Friday , even if it's a blowout. I would suspect that even if you ' cheated ' and played kids more than 4 quarters that most coaches would look the other way in lieu of cancelling the game.

Hearing that a lot of the Pub teams are also having issues fielding JV's. I can remember a decade or so ago when the Pub cancelled the JV programs for a couple years.
