Off-season, sick of arguing about transfers, and had a hoops topic that I’d be interested in some input for.

Easton girls basketball closed out their second straight undefeated regular season, and in the only state poll I can find, is the #2 team in 6A. They have one senior. Last season, they lost to eventual runner-up Mount Lebanon in State quarters to finish 27-3. They’ve also made state playoffs in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

The program turnaround has happened under Dave Lutz, who got the job for the 2012-13 season. He previous head coach went 17-50, and they’d had one winning season in the eight years before Lutz got hired. He’s legitimately built them into one of the best programs in the area, and from the looks of things, is on the cusp of being one of the better programs in the state.

From 1993-2005, Lutz was the Easton boys basketball coach, and finished his career with a sub .500 record (145-157). He had a nice couple teams in the late 90s and went to a state playoff, but never won a championship of any kind and was often right around .500 with a first round district playoff exit. The boys coach they replaced him won 157 games in eight years and went to four state playoffs, so it’s not like Easton boys hoops was just a dead end. But it has been legitimately jarring how much more successful Dave has been running the girls program.

Has anybody seen a contrast like that before?

Also insane that the girls program is 21-0 while the boys team finished 2-20 this season.
